@FJAMods i have a dsl100, played thru a marshall vs412 cab, more of an economy cab, id like to get a 1960a or b. in your opinion would it really make a a big difference in tone, or would i be ok to stick w the vs412. trying one out myself would be the best way, but right now im just a kid trying to save a dollar
What tubes do you use in marshalls ? I have early(that's what i heard) dsl50 with drake tranformers. To me, it sound very fizzy and bright. Deep switch helps a little, but not much. I think the problem is in the tubes ( some old Ei on the power amp and mixed tubes on the preamp). Can you recomend me some darker sounding tubes.
good vid what did ya do???? i have a stock dsl no mods or that but ive got a tone akine to this but then again ive rarely ever played it with the volume lower than 8 and gain on about 7ish :] marshalls love volume :] but thats probably why im half deaf...
killer vid! Like many youngsters, i made the mistake of buying a dsl50 for metal. Especially when mic'd to a PA(through Vint.30's), i have to drop my treble and presence down to zero to rid it's "fizzy" sound. I'd really love to bring out my mids and lows dramatically(as it is very trebly) is there a mod for that? any recommendations? its all stock with jj ecc83's and jj kt77's(rebiased to 0.43mV) please and thank you!
Hey guy's there are alot of questions that need answered here. If you are running a business it would be nice to communicate more. Not everyone on here is 14 years old.
Hey guy, my business isn't done on Youtube or Myspace, I have an actual website, email, and phone number. I also work alone here on actual amps so I don't have time to surf the web answering questions on 50 different sites. If you bother to read my profile on the main page you would see I don't conduct business on here or reply to messages here regarding business.
This site is just to get the word out. If you like what you see you come to me and get more info.
You guys seem to know a bit about amp modds. I have a DSL 100 and want to retube it to get more of a tighter chunky metal sound, I have heard that JJ valves are good. could you suggest what type would help with my sound? Any advice would be appreciated.
how much does it cost to Mod? are there other Mods for it? my main issue is the reverb has no foot switch? can I buy one? I also wish I could swich betweent the 4 different settings
Good sounding amp! I'm new to the world of tube-amps. I'm planning to buy one so I'm testing as much as I can. Does anyone recommend an amp to get that old hardrock sound (like ACDC?). I would love to have an amp sounding 'crisp'.
i'm guessing to add the meaty tone you did something with the c12 cap? I'm trying to do modding on my own because i don't have the money to pay for modding. I just took out my c12 cap and left it open. Gave me a much meatier tone.
What are the main tone characteristics differences between the mod and stock. I have a 100 watt DSL and the ultra gain channel sounds thin compared to the fat classic channel. What can you mod do for me, im very interested.
I can tweak it any way you like. This customer wanted a little more gain and more mid cut. If you need the tone to be thicker and chunkier I can do that.
Is there a reason you do your testing use Celestion 75's?

MAybe a Vintage series Marshall AMP would suite your needs, but general golden rule!
Always try the amp with your or at least with a quite similar guitar befor buying it, if it's available somhow.

What mod did you use? How'd you do it? What exactly does the mod do? Love the sound you're getting out of yours.
PiperDawnsGate 3 years ago
Thanks! This amp has my standard DSL mod. The mod on this amp was done to add more gain and give the amp a better mid bite with a thick meaty tone.
FJAMods 3 years ago

PiperDawnsGate 3 years ago
Nope, didn't touch it. That's just a bright cap and only really has an effect when the gain is below 12 o'clock.

Would you be able to make a Dsl 100 switchable to 50 watts? Or is that only possible during construction of the amp?

Do you think the dsl is a well made amp? Some have said they are made like tanks and others thell me theyre problematic.
jay31486 3 years ago
They are made OK as far as modern amps goes. I've seen a few problems, but they aren't junk by any stretch.
