  • awesome, for me no doubt, the sonics made the best cover ever

  • The cover by Freedom is good too !

  • The evolution of music can be quite amazing. Except that which has led to lil' wayne and Justin Beiber of course.

  • wow Richard Berry has done a wonderful job at writing excellent songs such as this and "Louie Louie" in the 50's, while bands decades later did covers of his songs.

  • 1st time I ever danced was to this song.

  • pff the best rated comments are about covers of this very song...

  • This dude doesn't get the credit he deserves.

    Louie Louie

    Have Love Will Travel

  • @backdoor445 you are absolutely CORRECT.

  • The Sonics. End of story.

  • whatever version you like best, its a testament to how awesome the song is when it can span such diverse genres! this is a brilliant version!

  • I have been searching all over for a song with the same title. It's a slower, more bluesy song, sounds a little like Jimmy Reed. Can't find it anywhere. Anyone got any suggestions?

  • @CinnAlla It could be The Sonics or the Black Keys. If you haven't heard of either, you are in for a treat.

  • @matthound I have heard those - they're covers of Richard Berry. The song I'm looking for is an entirely different one, an original song with the same title. Thanks anyway. :)

  • @CinnAlla Cheers. Good luck!

  • Man you must be born yesterday! Really? the Black Keys made the song relevant? Why the hell did you think THEY covered it ?? They are a neo-garage band and the Sonics taught them what was relevant in that regard! Thus, if they had one to cover, why not cover that one!?!

  • Dude the black keys are the ones that made this song relevant again.

  • @dnksmkr101 a car commercial made this song relevant again....just saying. ;)

  • @drfunkeystein Agreed. I like The Black Keys as a band, but they honestly completely fucked this song up.

  • Was Also the "A" side of Lets Get One by the Imperialites. SoCal local band in early '60s

  • Wow I only knew the sonics ,I now feel correctly educated

  • one of the best tracks i now! could someone write me a pm with names of more such tracks?

  • I met Richard Berry in 1987 when he was playing in Toronto and I requested this classic, which wasn’t on his regular play list. He seemed genuinely surprised by the request, and politely obliged me. It was a great moment for me.

  • I don't know why people are comparing Richard Berry's version of this song to the INTERPRETATION of the Sonics and the Black Keys. Richard Berry wrote and recorded this song as his imagination moved him in 1959. Richard Berry's version is not even the same genre as the Sonics and the Black Keys, not to mention the span between the time periods. The only real sameness is the melody and the lyrics. So, it's futile, silly even, to compare the latter versions to this one.

  • @CheckMate657879 Check and mate. Nicely put my friend.

  • @CheckMate657879 well said mate :-)

  • Sonics + Black Keys did an amazing cover :)

  • One of the best R&B songs of all time

  • Nothing like the original, but I think both "The sonics" & "The black keys" did a great job covering this song.

  • @finallyonenottaken I reckon. This is much softer version than what The Sonics did.

  • in my opinion The Basics made the best cover of this song :)

  • Black Keys have the best cover of this song. It is excellent.

  • @wick2107 Seriously?

  • @wick2107 black keys better than the sonics?? u must be smoking man..

  • @miamiwax You dumb enough to think that your taste applies to all people.... 'u must be smoking man'

  • @ivandrahgo

    you're a saint.

  • @miamiwax RICHARD BERRY , THE BEST VERSION OFF COURSE.

  • @wick2107 not even close to true. The Sonics' version blows the Black Keys (who I am in no way insulting as a band) version out of the water

  • @wick2107 The Sonics did it better

  • @dtigersfan2011 and THATS a matter of opinion !

  • @wick2107 Yeah!

  • @wick2107 FUCK YOU. the sonics >>>>>>> black keys. always.

  • @YouAre256ColoursToo Nah man, Dan Auerbach is a better songwriter and guitarist and Patrick Carney is a better drummer. When you have a guitarist compared to RL Burnside + a drummer compared to John Bonham, you will have a better band than the Sonics.

  • @wick2107 one of the more hilarious comments i've read on youtube. bring that bullshit into a record store/around someone with actual knowledge of music history and you'll be laughed at. the sonics are the band that many look at as the true founders of punk rock. one of the hardest-hitting drummers in history. the black keys wouldn't have ever heard of this song if it weren't for the sonics. it's likely that the black keys wouldn't exist if it weren't for the sonics.

  • @YouAre256ColoursToo Yeah and the Sonics wouldn't exist without Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix would be worse than John Lee Hooker. It is not like the Sonics just decided to come up with their music without any influences. Your philosophy would basically just trace back music to the first musician and that musician would be the best ever. Knowledge of music history has nothing to do with it. I like The Sonics and The Black Keys. The Black Keys are just better in my opinion.

  • @YouAre256ColoursToo However the Sonics do not contribute too much to the Black Keys style. You would have to look at R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, and Captain Beefheart to find the musicians that shaped their style.

  • @wick2107 I think Guy Ritchie got it right with with The Sonics version(by far the best, even compared with the original)

  • "no matter where I be"

I'm still wondering if he said "sookie full of kisses" or "suitcase full of kisses" wondering from the 50's

  • @MrsDiamondears It's a suitcase full of kisses

  • @Dresoul01 Thanks! Where were you 50 years ago? lol

  • Just beautiful.

  • Thanks Snapcracklepop54! I love this song! Remember it from '60. Used to listen to it Lucky 1310 - KDIA when I was 15 years old living on the San Francisco Peninsula. I've been looking for this original version for quite some time. Sounds great!

  • wow sonics have done a great job rewriting this RnB song as a garagepunk tune!!!

  • This R&B Doo Wop version was the original which came out in 1960 by Richard Berry and the Pharoahs whom also did the original version of Louie Louie, which was also done by the Kingmen later in the 60's, while the garage rocker version of this tune came out in 1965 by the Sonics, both versions which came out during two distinctly separate eras.

  • Song has been re-recorded by many groups including Springsteen and Ian Gillan of Deep Purple but the original by these guys is the best.

  • @john55fan Bill Kirchen (of Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen) also did a VERY credible version. BUT, sorry Bill, the original,,,what can I say!?!

  • @john55fan Hell Yeah!!!!!!

  • ...are the best

  • haha awesome, I was wondering who originally wrote this song. It has certainly been changed over the years. Check out the black keys version for a real trip.
