Lmfao... This game would never kill WoW. There is no chance, so don't mention it as a possibility. WoW's PVP is better and the gameplay is more developed. It's only issue is that it's stale, but that's repairable. Something else may kill it, but not this shitty excuse for a Star Wars title.
The only thing in SWTOR's favor is a souped up story line with 3 responses at each junction and vocals. Honestly, if you're gonna play that garbage for story alone, then get a single player game.

I'm pretty bummed out, SOE wouldn't let me subscribe anymore, not even before September 15th so I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to swg.
I'm playing TOR now though, and it's great! It's even better then I imagined it would be and I would really recommend it to not only Star Wars fans but also non-fans. The quests are awesome, the combat works flawless, there actually are some SWG elements such as a intergalatic bazaar.

If SOE does not want to support it anymore even as a F2P, why not put forth a petition to have it entered into the public domain, and with an agreement of free play for all. Palyers could run servers to support various connections, and even setup cluster farms to support it. Just asking. Enjoy your game, in whatever universe you play in.

This video was actually quite heart felt. I started SWG at launch as well, however I only stuck with it for a few months and didn't play through the expansions, I (luckily) didnt have to suffer through the NGE or CU... but some of my fondest memories of MMO's were honestly my first few months of SWG. It was one of my first MMO's next to EQ1 (which I still cherish those memories).
I miss the sandbox feel of SWG and how open it was... Nothing quite like it.

I will likely goto Swtor, but really, the only reason is because Swg will be gone. If I had my pick, I'd have stayed with Swg and probably not even tried Swtor.
Starsider gal here. I only played the game for two years and that was long after NGE happened, but I have fond memories of this game. Half the heartbreak is losing all those friends that left the moment they heard sony pulled the plug. Many of us sympathize with you and are all suffering the loss you are suffering. Game on, brother in arms.

Many of my friends in other games are going to try it out, as well as the one person I managed to keep in contact with from SWG but as for myself, I am too disappointed about the lack of freedom the new game offers. TOR carries nothing of the spirit of our old game. They made a huge mistake killing that game, thinking many of the player base will join TOR.
@elorfinthendt not just 8, there more like 20, you have the light side outcome and the dark side one, its the same story, but it changes so radically sometimes when it comes to alignment
SOE really dropped the ball on this game, I feel bad for the people who were into it. They kept changing everything and chastising the playerbase for not running along.

I'm not going to join the chorus of "go play tor!" because i realise its a different game. I'll enjoy it, but i'm not huge into online sandbox like most SWG folks are.
I will say that fallout online is still being hashed out, and that will doubtlessly be sandbox.
Dude it sucks big time, Ive had my 2 character for nearly three years. Jedi master Ed'I Lightingdust on eclipse was my main and I agree its like losing a good friend. All the best to the last SWG players as I cant sign back in, I missed cut off date due to cash flow probs (GUTTED). ENJOY what time you guys have left, on what is probably one of the greatest MMORGP's ever.
I can't wait till SWTOR to come out. Sure SWG gave us players some memories, but with this end, SWTOR is a new begginning. It's time to make new memories in a new game and play a new adventure. Don't hate it till you try it ;)

screw SWTOR ..it will not have player housing, it will not have 100s of pets to choose from, it willn ot have the resource and crafting system , it will not have loads of ships plus the parts to it.. it will HAVE lots of cool new planets..but FUCK THAT SHIT !swg was the most complex online game ever. i dont want to play stuff 12 year olds would succeed in. !!
@GAMERNAP It's a Kodak Playsport. It's not the best camera in the world (the ports aren't good for much beyond a year of steady use) but it's workable.

I know so many people who are SWG players that simply refuse to give TOR a chance. I myself played SWG for 4 years and it is one of the best mmos of all time. However it was falling apart long before TOR was even announced back in 2008. I for one will miss Galaxies and it is one of the best virtual worlds of all time. Hope to see you in TOR! Vanguard is next to close. SoE have no clue and should just shut down ther entire company sooner rather than later. Worst company in the industry. They haven't made a single successful game since the original EQ.
I said my good bye when NGE was released. For me it's strange because even though I said good bye years ago, the body is only just being put in the ground now. I was one of the 10's of thousnads that left in a stampede at the NGE release. SOE is just really ,really shitty to its customers.
I have been wondering how you feel about TOR as an ex- SWG player. In TOR imho there will be a huge Jedi/Sith inflation since most player want to fight with a lightsaber. Also Jedi/sith being as powerful as the other classes feels so strange imo since we all have been tought by the movies how overpowered, rare and special Jedi and Sith are.
@senifil I have a feeling that there will be a fair spread of classes in the game. I'm not exceptionally worried about it. Also, Jedi and Sith are far from rare 3000+ years before the Battle of Yavin. Further, cortosis weave allows normal people to fight Jedi and Sith alike by making their weapons and armor Lightsaber proof. That's how they explained the normal people who are willing to go toe to toe with a Jedi wielding a lightsaber in Knights of the Old Republic.
Come over to the swgEMu project. Status is they have a test center called Nova where the devs are doing an object restructure project to emulate SWG pre-cu. The goal is to get the game up and running for free, to incorporate all the great stuff and leave out all the bad stuff (NGE), and they are doing pretty great. There is a 2nd server called Liberator which is to tide players over until the OR is complete. TC:Nova gets wiped often due to the active testing/restructuring. So come to swgemucom

@weardcute Saying that SWGEMU is "hope" is a bit... misleading. In essence, if you want to play pre-2005 SWG, by all means. Plus people have pointed this out in other comments.
I quit SWG quite a while ago, but I'm still kinda sad to see it go. Not as sad as I'd be if it was still like it was before the NGE or CU. Still sad, though.
I started playing like a good almost 5 years ago so 2006ish, I've loved it ever since, alot of stuff i still wanted to do like HK on mustafar which is the only quest I wanted to do but never got to it, I played PvP and at a few times was said to be the best medic and at another time a spy til the revamp of the spy prof, But i played a month with my cousin and dad (shortly afI generated about 2bil in creds but never reached the billion, Great Times I wish I could do it again but life hit me hard
Definitely THE BEST gaming experience I've ever had. I'm 20 now, and first played the game when I was 14 or so (RIGHT at the start): exploring the vastness of Dathomir, encountering Krayt Dragons, grouping up for Squill hunts and the dreaded Death Watch Bunker. Embarking on the Jedi trials at the Village. Oh man...so many memories.
SWG is outdated now, admittedly...but I really think that TOR - despite the graphics and whatnot - will NOT top the experience I had - creating my own Saga...
i found out in the game. some one told me dude its ending soon. i was like what! ? no way. what the hell? so sad that day. i was sending msgs to every one saying we gotta get together gaing befor its over. evry mission is played with a sadness. it is my mission to get to lvl 90 befor the serves are down. im at 52. i can make it! i will be in the cantina with ever one i know on dec 15
@HeartPiece4u If you do 10 Mission Terminal missions a day, you can level faster. You're limited to getting experience payouts from a maximum of 10 missions, but it's every day. I went from level 67 to 90 very quickly like that. It slows down a bit when you hit level 72, but it helps.

Please people stop crying and go play SWGEMU... It's FREE. Lucas Arts has ok'd the EMU a while ago so if you really wanna. There ya go. Not sure how close they are to completing.

I agree, with galaxies soon to be gone, I have this eerie feeling. Just looking at it on my desktop and going through all my old screenshots from 03' to now, all the steps I've done, all my characters, all the PvP, all my guilds. It will be sad, i intend to play SWTOR, and try the EMU when it goes live, but nothing will ever replace it in my hard drive's heart. Hopefully LucasArts will one day re-open the game, or launch an SWG2 type game, and leave SOE out of it =p
Well, there is a game called SWGEmu. So, come on over. Devs are working on a release version of the game, but we have a play server that works fine. some bugs, but thats with current SWG too. Free to play and just like it was before combat upgrade. come on over, check it out
@Einungbrekke The issue is that I didn't really enjoy the game pre-CU. I guess my play style never really lent itself to that kind of gameplay. I'm a bit of a solo player who likes the option to play in a group but the way the original game worked, it was almost like it forced you to group to get stuff done. *shrugs* We'll see.
@elorfinthendt Well, on live pre-cu I soloed krayts and nightsisters. Not a problem. Heavy swordsman and doc template. Later Jedi and soloed every thing with him. Can't say NGE was the game I liked, but we all have different preferences ;)
People who haven't played SWG for years and years can never understand what it feels like. I have a life that I am more than happy with, and I'm in no need of any kind of assistance with psychological problems and/or social skills, yet the announcement of SWG shutting down hurt pretty bad.
What people don't tend to realize is the amount of just wonderful people you meet on SWG, and knowing that you will probably never see/speak with them again...
i've actually begun the setup for The Old Republic and have found many people from my old Kauri server in the SW:TOR forums and it's nice to know that we can still have fun together again.
i know the feeling, i went through this when i left swg originally when NGE went live. it is like losing a friend because you lose daily contact and fun with friends you made and kept for a long time
I left EQ 1 and played this game when it first came out and remember it being horrible. I canceled the sub like 2 months in. I was actually surprised it was still around. I guess they made some good changes cause it was unplayable when it first started.
i would laugh if you were on a date on dec 15. but dude. its a game. i realize you have emotional ties to the game but cmon. go work out, get a haircut, clean up your room, tell your mom your moving out, go to school and rent a apartment, play swtor and manage one game and dont go back.
Well put. I started playing at the age of 12 on launch day and fell in love with the game. Still to this day the only MMORPG I stuck with for more than 3 months. I quit a few months after the NGE, couldn't stomach it anymore. I still miss Pre-CU SWG, think about playing it all the time...I guess without trying to sound too weird or nerdy, for me it's like the childhood friend I grew up with who moved away and lost contact with, or like a dog that died or something. Absolutely fond memories.

This was my first MMOG and was totally drawn in. I loved the visit from the old man and force village before NGE. I will miss the game alot. Master Cammando and Master Jedi on Ahazi server Finished Obi'a trials. Look forward to the new game but will never forget this.

Ive lost so many friends on SWG where they have quite and I never got their email. So ive lost contact with many great friends. 1 even died. He was in a Kyak accident. In game his name was Jesse' James. I had talked to him before in voice. He was nice and polite. Just wanted to play for fun. diddnt care if he died or lost all of his buffs. I hope to meet up with most, if not all my friends in TOR. But as u start to get to know people its like its not a game anymore. its a way to be with friends

To me swg was shut down when nge hit, The cu sucked but i tolerated it but nge totally killed it for me.... I did try to come back and play it 2 years or so later on starstrider or whatever populated server is was called.... I just couldnt get into it. Still just remembering the memories pre-nge makes me sad that swg is shutting down.

I started SWG at launch as well, however I only stuck with it for a few months and didn't play through the expansions, I (luckily) didnt have to suffer through the NGE or CU... but some of my fondest memories of MMO's were honestly my first few months of SWG. It was one of my first MMO's next to EQ1 (which I still cherish those memories).
I miss the sandbox feel of SWG and how open it was... Nothing quite like it.

Starsider gal here. I only played the game for two years and that was long after NGE happened, but I have fond memories of this game. Half the heartbreak is losing all those friends that left the moment they heard sony pulled the plug. Many of us sympathize with you and are all suffering the loss you are suffering. Many of my friends in other games are going to try it out, as well as the one person I managed to keep in contact with from SWG but as for myself, I am too disappointed about the lack of freedom the new game offers. TOR carries nothing of the spirit of our old game. They made a huge mistake killing that game, thinking many of the player base will join TOR.

SOE really dropped the ball on this game, I feel bad for the people who were into it. They kept changing everything and chastising the playerbase for not running along.
You guys are pretty damn dedicated, and deserved better than that.
I'm not going to join the chorus of "go play tor!" because i realise its a different game. I'll enjoy it, but i'm not huge into online sandbox like most SWG folks are.
I will say that fallout online is still being hashed out, and that will doubtlessly be sandbox.

All the best to the last SWG players as I cant sign back in, I missed cut off date due to cash flow probs (GUTTED). I said my good bye when NGE was released. For me it's strange because even though I said good bye years ago, the body is only just being put in the ground now. I was one of the 10's of thousnads that left in a stampede at the NGE release. SOE is just really ,really shitty to its customers.

I have been wondering how you feel about TOR as an ex- SWG player. In TOR imho there will be a huge Jedi/Sith inflation since most player want to fight with a lightsaber. Also Jedi/sith being as powerful as the other classes feels so strange imo since we all have been tought by the movies how overpowered, rare and special Jedi and Sith are.

@senifil I have a feeling that there will be a fair spread of classes in the game. I'm not exceptionally worried about it. Also, Jedi and Sith are far from rare 3000+ years before the Battle of Yavin. Further, cortosis weave allows normal people to fight Jedi and Sith alike by making their weapons and armor Lightsaber proof. That's how they explained the normal people who are willing to go toe to toe with a Jedi wielding a lightsaber in Knights of the Old Republic.

Come over to the swgEMu project. Status is they have a test center called Nova where the devs are doing an object restructure project to emulate SWG pre-cu. The goal is to get the game up and running for free, to incorporate all the great stuff and leave out all the bad stuff (NGE), and they are doing pretty great. There is a 2nd server called Liberator which is to tide players over until the OR is complete. TC:Nova gets wiped often due to the active testing/restructuring. So come to swgemucom

I started playing like a good almost 5 years ago so 2006ish, I've loved it ever since, alot of stuff i still wanted to do like HK on mustafar which is the only quest I wanted to do but never got to it, I played PvP and at a few times was said to be the best medic and at another time a spy til the revamp of the spy prof, But i played a month with my cousin and dad (shortly afI generated about 2bil in creds but never reached the billion, Great Times I wish I could do it again but life hit me hard

Definitely THE BEST gaming experience I've ever had. I'm 20 now, and first played the game when I was 14 or so (RIGHT at the start): exploring the vastness of Dathomir, encountering Krayt Dragons, grouping up for Squill hunts and the dreaded Death Watch Bunker. Embarking on the Jedi trials at the Village. Oh man...so many memories.
SWG is outdated now, admittedly...but I really think that TOR - despite the graphics and whatnot - will NOT top the experience I had - creating my own Saga...

@HeartPiece4u If you do 10 Mission Terminal missions a day, you can level faster. You're limited to getting experience payouts from a maximum of 10 missions, but it's every day. I went from level 67 to 90 very quickly like that. It slows down a bit when you hit level 72, but it helps.

I agree, with galaxies soon to be gone, I have this eerie feeling. Just looking at it on my desktop and going through all my old screenshots from 03' to now, all the steps I've done, all my characters, all the PvP, all my guilds. It will be sad, i intend to play SWTOR, and try the EMU when it goes live, but nothing will ever replace it in my hard drive's heart. Hopefully LucasArts will one day re-open the game, or launch an SWG2 type game, and leave SOE out of it =p

I'm a bit of a solo player who likes the option to play in a group but the way the original game worked, it was almost like it forced you to group to get stuff done. *shrugs* We'll see.

People who haven't played SWG for years and years can never understand what it feels like. I have a life that I am more than happy with, and I'm in no need of any kind of assistance with psychological problems and/or social skills, yet the announcement of SWG shutting down hurt pretty bad.
What people don't tend to realize is the amount of just wonderful people you meet on SWG, and knowing that you will probably never see/speak with them again...
It is in some ways like losing a friend...

Well put. I started playing at the age of 12 on launch day and fell in love with the game. Still to this day the only MMORPG I stuck with for more than 3 months. I quit a few months after the NGE, couldn't stomach it anymore. I still miss Pre-CU SWG, think about playing it all the time...I guess without trying to sound too weird or nerdy, for me it's like the childhood friend I grew up with who moved away and lost contact with, or like a dog that died or something. Absolutely fond memories.

I was crushed. But I let it go years ago.
They game COULD have been more, and SHOULD have been more. SOE failed.

Ive lost so many friends on SWG where they have quite and I never got their email. So ive lost contact with many great friends. 1 even died. He was in a Kyak accident. In game his name was Jesse' James. I had talked to him before in voice. He was nice and polite. Just wanted to play for fun. diddnt care if he died or lost all of his buffs. To me swg was shut down when nge hit, The cu sucked but i tolerated it but nge totally killed it for me.... I did try to come back and play it 2 years or so later on starstrider or whatever populated server is was called.... I just couldnt get into it. Still just remembering the memories pre-nge makes me sad that swg is shutting down.

@danydaniel12345 not gonna recommend any game to you, seems like you are very proficient picking the god awful games and playing for years convincing yourself you are playing the best game ever. You guys should stay connected to that retarded game until they pull the plug because there is nothing else for you to do.

@ombushadowfire I'm going to stay with the game until it goes out because I choose to, because I genuinely enjoyed playing the game and because it seems like it'd be fun. Further, if you hate this game so much, how about you go and leave those of us who like it alone? You know, spend your time a little more constructively and quit being a little fool.

@ombushadowfire wow, you really hate this game XD well people do get sucked into games, but this is not NEARLY as bad as the people who get hooked to WOW because this may seem big to you, but there are much worse ways people will react, and at least he is being a real person and isn't acting like is some cool guys that acts like anybody gives a s*** about anything he says, unlike peeps like.................you.

@danydaniel12345 I dont hate the game. I just laugh at the morons crying out laud cuz SOE is pulling the plug on this retarded game. WoW is horrible but SWG is even worse, by far. The fact that neither you or the idiots making more videos about this didn't realize this or don't want to accept it is hilarious. I hope you some day realize that the "connection" you think you have with the game itself or other players in a MMO is the same as virtual property, it doesn't exist.

@ombushadowfire I played the game for 8 years because I enjoyed it. Don't pretend to tell me what I do or do not enjoy on my behalf. Were you there on Day 1? Were you there when Jump to Lightspeed launched? Were you there for the Rage of the Wookiees expansion? How about the Trials of Obi-Wan? What about when they implemented badges? Did you join a crew to storm the Corellian Corvette? Did you hold the cantina in the Mos Espa Tusken encounter? Go troll somewhere else.

@elorfinthendt you are just trying to have some meaningful memories for all the time you wasted on an outdated mmo nobody ever cared. And of course you forgot the most important thing, the NGE. The patch that helped 95% of the player base realized how horrible game that was from the beginning but nobody wanted to accept so everybody left except a few stubborn idiots with no life <-- sound familiar EL OH EL!
