I remember when an officer in the Norwegian army told me back in 2003 that they thought about rechambering this rifle to 5.56. I was devastated, but now that I am older, understand more, and is joining the army now in a couple of weeks, I think the change to a different cartridge and different weapon might be healthy. But I also think it's stupid to all-in-all get rid of this wonderful weapon... One soldier per squad should be equipped with it ;)

@SnikendeUlteppe Yeah, their goal was to have a general change of rifle throughout the entire militaryforce (with a few exceptions) by 2008, which they managed pretty well. So now HK416, usually with aimpoint, is standard, while snipers use HK417 and Barret. The MP5 is also being changed to MP7. It is also being talked about changing the MG3 standard Machinegun to M249 SAW, but keeping the MG3 for vehicles and non-prioritized units. That's at least what I've heard and seen :)

@Ruben1994OL They arnt gonna use MP7, its not logical, becuase the whole point of the short 416 carbine was to replace the MP5 like the U.S did with the M4, so all small arms(excluding DMRs and pistols) willl be replaced by 416, ive looked it up.

@RiflemanExpert They've already began issuing MP7 to personell already, so that's wrong. But the MP7 is not issued as the MP5 was. MP5 was more or less used as a CQB-weapon, whereas the MP7 is a PDW, or Personal Defence Weapon. It's not designed for offensive fighting. But watch clips from the 22. July terrorbombing in Oslo. You can actually see soldiers around with MP7 with aimpoint. And when I signed up for the Norwegian Army in feb. , I was also told and shown pictures of the MP7 in service.

@RiflemanExpert The Nowergian Army has signed a contract with HK for the 416 carbine, 417 rifle and MP7. I was informed of this when I signed up not a year ago. But the MP7 is not a weapon designed for combat. It's more or less issued as a PDW for armour- or vehiclepersonell. I think is says somewhere in the Soldiershandbok (Soldathåndboken) for the norwegian army, but of that I am not sure.

But they DO issue MP7 for professional armourpersonell as a PDW.

But you was right on the area you had in mind, though. The era of footsoldiers with submachineguns is now in the past. But I also just remembered that the Norwegian army also also made a deal with Benelli for a mentionworty amount of Benelli Nova shotguns.

But I have a friend in the Airforce, and he was issued a 1974 AG3 (G3A3) in recruit training and later given HK416. When I asked why, he said it was because recruits tend to drop the rifle and the 416 would be ruined.

HMKG Get their hk416 from day 1. and keep it out their service. atleast that was what i did when i was in HMKG.And mine went trought alot of beating and i never had any problems with it. would rather say that they dont want recruits to have a 416 in all companies due to the expence to change all ag3 over to hk416 at one time wich would be quite expensive.Aswell as i think the army still got alot of 7.62 rounds left.:P

Atleast i know that guard groups around at bases and camps where they need to do their daily routine to check if buildings are empty. wouldnt want to go into a building to clear it with a hk416 or AG3 when it comes to size around corners etc if something should happen. :P

@XcRuNkJoShYx HK makes great weapons, but they tend to shit on the civilian side. i had several handguns that needed service and they tended to neglect that. the hk 416 is great, but honestly the barrett m468 is better in my opinion. i love HK, dont get me wrong, but i feel that some of their weapons are a tad over rated. i think id take a g36 over the 416 any day. if i want a badass ar platform, id rather take the barrett. but thats just me.

FN FAL and the G3 is not the same assault rifle as some one tried to point out earlier.

Both Sweden and Norway used the H&K G3 but both countries did their own modifications to suit their needs.

I like that he handles it good although i never fired that rifle on full auto myself ;because of the recoil it delivers the accuracy is lost and you only waste ammo for nothing.

Although i did fire 4 rounds at 25 meters only an inch apart under 2 seconds during my qualification on that rifle.

Best Assault rifle in the world by far, but only a skirmishing basis, because if this weapon went up against the M4 Colt Commando in an accuracy contest on moving targets that symbolized terrorists, then it would lose. I am guessing that, in a long mid range accuracy test or a skirmish test, this weapon would be the victor against a lot of different assault rifles.

@nle4lyfe The AG3 is basically the same as the G3A3, but the norwegian army did some minor changes to the system, so it's not exactly the same rifle. Also they're all produced on contract, in Norway. And by the way, The ak47 use the 7.62x39mm round and the G3 use the 7.62x51mm NATO round. So they do not use the same ammo ;)
