We played this in concert band, not as complicated of a version. But still loved it because it was in six eight even though the flutes had to rest for twenty four measures!!!!!!
This song was played for me on November 16, 2011 when me and my platoon were hiking to the parade deck in Parris Island, South Carolina to receive our eagle globe and anchors. I will never forget it.
My high school band is playing this now and we are playing the original piece. Overall it is an excellent piece of work for any band that knows marching music and can play that style well.
@MERC3NARYPRODUCTIONS Nope. I believe what you're thinking of was something actually composed for the film: "Hogwarts' March." Check it out. You'll hear the obvious difference, but I can understand why you would think they're the same; I thought the film's track was this one when I first heard it.
When I was a kid, all the reporters of World War II sent their films and are displayed at the cinema and before they played the anthem of the Journal in which they worked, I remember the Chicago Tribune and the BBC in London as well.
@joehist Mr. Sousa's paternal grandparents were Portuguese so it is possible that you are related to him! They were living in Spain when Mr. Sousa's father was born. Mr. Sousa was born in Washington D.C.
while in my high school band our director made us play 3 Sousa marches....they are so much fun to play and we went into state competition with all of them :)
@tthomaselli2 I don't know about the movies, but this is not the version performed by Sousa himself. He did record some of his songs in the very early days of recordings, but they have poor sound quality by today's standards.
does anybody know where i can find this with only the clarinet part? i am playing this in band and i need to hear how first clarinet sounds please and thank you

This song should be played by our tanks in iraq. Just blast it as they blow up the insurgents.
