  • "Abombinable"is posing with a couple of Pelham Puppets marrionettes.

  • I always loved the amount of motion on the screen while he says "or several different things"... There are more of these I'm looking for, like the one that ends with "Always count your chaaanngge!!!"

  • its a swell doll

  • ...were they REALLY so cheap as to not put helium in the balloon?

  • @MrBowserPuffi

Guess you didn't get the point of this PSA. ;)

Fiscal conservatism. Seriously, did you look at the quality craftsmanship that went into making that puppet? Lets just say, they practice what they preach.

Clearly the message of this ad was lost on me too. Considering as a child I had 37 "swell dollies" who looked exactly the same.

  • i forgot about that commercial.

  • Its sounds like... A-Bomb-In-Able-snow-man

  • Thanks for posting these! There was a commercial on the radio where a guy drives off while he is talking, and it totally reminded me of the "always count your change!!!" PSA which led me here looking them up...

  • So awesome feel like I'm 7 again! Do yo have " always count your change" I still say that to this day.

  • I produced and directed these spots in the 1970s. They feature my parents' puppet act, The Ritts Puppets. I voiced and manipulated Flammable Flamingo and Wembley Stork, who appear in some of them. It's amazing that they've shown up on YouTube. I only have an old 16mm reel of the spots in my garage attic!

  • Markritts, Thanks...great ads. I don't think I even knew what they were trying to teach me when I was a kid, but I loved them. I grew up in the 80's and these ads have been in the back of my mind ever since. I don't know why. There's just something about the way they were written. The 80's were so innocent and so are these PSA's. Great stuff!!!

  • Good point, and glsad to see you, if you don't mind, I'll name the whole trio of puppeteers, you, Paul and Mary. the Pink Panther show had them in 1972 in live segments,. These are much older than the 80s..I always confused them with Muppets. Kind of similiar history, even going bakc to the 50s. As for the 80s being so innocent, as for these ads, that's because they're actually older! LOL And Balancing one meals...

  • "Albert, now you left the window open and you're wasting heat!" that was another one with a squirrel who wasted energy. There was another one. "always count your change"..when the giraffe and flamingo were in a car and the giraffe started eating his hat.

  • I loved albert now you left the window open.....is it out there anywhere...?

  • I think the giraffe in that is actually "Geoffrey" from Toys R Us.

  • Yes, I remember this. The pink Flamingo was a host of the Pink Panther show during the early 70s. Are there any videos with the Flamingo? I've mentioned these characters to people I know and none of them remember.

  • Wow! I watched these 3 decades ago and i still remembered them word for word. thanks so much for posting the 2 you have!

  • Just got that look from everyone I work with when I asked them. DFound this and I feel a little bit better. Hey I proved there where such things as Barba Papas!

  • do you have more of theses? Every time I ask someone if they remember this stuff they look at me like I have NINE heads.

  • Same thing happens to me..stuff people a little older or a lil younger than me seem to not remember things I remember as a child and think I am making it up or as it were a "dream".

  • I haven't seen that for years! Been looking! They were always on WLVI 56 and sometimes WSBK 38 in Boston when I was a kid..I also remember one about a kite he had that broke and a malfunctioning record player..would love to see those too!

  • Does anyone remember when the Snowman, along with a furry pink flamingo "Flam", was interspersed with cartoons on NBC on Saturday mornings, about 1973? I do remember when this duo appeared on the Pink Panther Show!

  • you mean part of an actual show (not inbetween shows, like commercials)? I don't remember but I was waaay young in 1973.

  • @roadwonk - I remember them between shows, 1973 sounds about right. IIRC, they introduced the cartoons and so on.

  • Oh man...I have been looking for these PSAs forever! Thank you for posting this. Does anyone know created these puppets?
