When trains in India cross a road, do the drivers (or engineers) just lay on the horn, or is there is specific long-short blast sequence that they're supposed to follow, as they do in North America?
I am not sure, but I don't think there is any such sequence of long-short or whatever...they just blare their horns before passing through a road-railway intersection to let everyone know a train is coming, please keep clear !!
@decline2state : They do follow certain sequences, but not for crossing a road. In this video, the engineer sounds the horn to alert people who might be crossing the tracks and not using overhead bridges. Many road crossings are manned, and you would see a guard holding up a green flag/lantern if everything is okay. If the crossing is malfunctioning for any reason, he/she holds up a red flag/lantern. In case of unmanned crossings, they usually lay on the horn.
Despite of the growth of no-frills airlines in India, the cost is still considered expensive by most average Indians especially those of lower income. Thus Indian Railways will remain the lifeline of the country.
Boy, with a population of 1.1 billion in India (2nd largest population in the world, behind People's Republic of China), it is not rare for us to see a train hauling up to 24 cars for passengers. Even a 24-car train will never be enough to accomodate all passengers struggling for seats.
Yeah! THIS train(Coromandel superfast express) is ALWAYS full, you will NEVER ever find it with a seat or two empty! Somebody or the other will occupy the seat by getting a ticket!

the best way to travel in a long distance indian trian...
1. go to the toilet, roll a nice joint.
2. then go to the pantry car.
3.make friends with the staff
4. share the joint along with them (dont worry they will make sure everything is under control)
5. enjoy rest of your journey with staff taking extra care of you and other passengers perpetually surprised amazed thinking you are royal indian

Total people travelling in train=1152+300= 1452 passengers
Total 24 Cars.
6 AC cars x 50 Seats (Approx) =300 passengers.
2 cars for cargo/luggage/pantry
16 Cars Non AC x 72 seats = 1152 passengers.
Total people travelling in train=1152+300= 1452 passengers
Number does not include Drivers/Ticket checkers/other employees.

6 AC cars...
it's the 3rd fastest train in India, after Rajdhani(upto 130 KM/h) franchise and Shatabdi(upto 150KM/h) franchise..
this train has the limit of 110 KM/h, and that's why it's hauled by a WAP4 ;)

@ayushisrocking What is the source of your non sense information that it is the 3rd fastest train? And P4 has been tested at 170.
