Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed this very "birdlike" (Reference to Charlie Parker) interpretation of Bag's Groove. Very astute use of substitute chords and progressions. Based on this you might enjoy the work of proto-bopper Joe Albany who died in the 1980's. Despite his obscurity he can be heard on you tube, rhapsody, and his own recordings. jazz will never die!
Thanks for sharing Arnaud. Amazing progress after only 21 months. At one point in time I had the same intentions but never got around to it. Try some of Monk's stuff in a few years and be sure to use the elbow!
This is really cool! its actually my brother that plays piano and he is AMAZING he tought him self and can play the hardest stuff in the world, And this is really really good to!
BTW he could play flight of the bumblebee with ease, your really good to though! i could never play this
This is cool; you can really see what you are doin' with the keys....hey check out my music and activism vids at Musicians4Freedom(dot)com. peace, Ven
I'll tell you I'm no expert, but since you've shared you expect my opinion. I may say I had a little bit of trouble with the tempo I got the impression it dropped some times (0:300:32 per examples), 1:15 and and some little dissonances at 0:23 ,1:08, 1:52, but those aren't things I can not stand, I'd say they are unsignificant. But then again, what should I know?. You are indeed a very good interpreter.May I ask you to play "St. Louis Blues"? (Dave Brubeck), that'll be nice thanks for sharing.
It is not very normal at all that one would begin learning piano by teaching themselves jazz since it is quite difficult to play well, I personally have never tried to play it even though I love to listen to it but for 21 months you are playing quite well. A piano instructor would have you playing classical pieces which is how jazz came to be so to speak. Students wanted to "jazz" up their playing and did. This is what I have red and heard. Very, very nice, do not stop!
...so all the old cats in the band looked at each other exasperatedly, realizing that they were being forced by circumstances into playing an encore. So they went back to their axes and played the 20-minute arrangement of Concierto de Aranjuez. It was effing brilliant! We all went nuts at the end, but the applause ended the minute their tired old feet took them off stage, because we knew we weren't going to get any more! :P
My favorite MJ piece is still Bluesology, from MJQ's pinnacle recording "Fontessa."
I saw MJQ's last San Francisco gig back in the 1990's. They were brilliant as ever, but walked slowly out on that stage as if their feet hurt. A young drummer, Percy Heath's nephew I think, was filling in for Connie Kay. When they went out to take their last bow, he naturally sat down at the kit, not realizing that MJQ didn't do encores...
Good job - I liked it a lot - you take me back to the 20's - the magic rag time era - this music would fit perfect in a flash back movie like cold case - I hope you know this tv movie where they from time to time go back in the past to resolve their old police unresolved cases - go on with this - and if you find a female singer singing on it it would be a YouTube hit
