  • i read twice and more times "filosofia en el tocador" and " los infortunios de la virtud" DEL MARQUES DE SADE. REPRESENTING TO SADE HERE IS NOT THE SAME THAN READ OR PRACTICE THAT KIND OF THINK. THIS WORLD NOW IS TOO FAR AWAY FOR THIS GREAT THINK OF SADE! WE HAVE TO DO THIS WORLD MUCH BETTER I MEAN ... OPEND MIND. ! GO FAR BEYOND... ;)

  • whats the complete name of this movie please tell me im reading a lot of marquis de sade and im sutunned.

  • @pajarokaripocapote

QUILLS directed by Philip Kaufman (2000)

In Italian they translated as QUILLS, LA PENNA DELLO SCANDALO= the pen of the scandal....In the original version I think it's just QUILLS.

  • The film is called Quills..it has Geoffrey Rush playing a very fine performance of poor De Sade encarserated in prison,,jolly good fil,,don't like Kate Winslet tho',,,annoying .lol

  • This man is my new George Carlin. He is a very humorous author and the mix of perversion and morality is intoxicating. I am totally laughing out loud (and I never read).

  • Les 120 journées de Sodome: thick masterpiece!

  • Fantastic video. I seriously adore this man.

  • I love De Sade! I can't find the words to express my appreciation for him..I need to read more works by him (I red in French Justine ou les malheurs de la vertu and La philosophie dans le boudoir).

  • While I have read a few of his works and find about 80% detestable, I can understand his confusion growing up. Father and uncle in positions of hypocrisy ( a lord and a banker) and raised almost completely by his mother...it's no wonder he didn't turn out 'normal'. I see where his cynicism about money, govt and religion come from. It's too late to channel that anger now....

  • I wish those who are so quick to condemn Sade as a mentally depraved monster actually took the time to read, and absorb, the better researched biographies and collection of his letters, as well as all his works, not just the most explicit/infamous/notorious. He wrote tragic morality tales, genuinely witty humorous shorts (some of his best work) and plays; dramas, comedies and even musicals (I concede that he was a lousy playwright, his best medium was prose). Ignore the myth research the man.

  • I agree, DeSade was obsessed with perversion but I see the man as tortured in a way. In 'Quills' he says that he must write those things that are in his mind or go mad. I don't know if he ever really said that, but I think that he may have not been evil just very mentally ill. The witty prose was his genius, and the perverse violent sexual material was his madness.

  • @not2esoteric

I love him, I read his works in French (not all) and I'm going to discuss his work, biography and the interpretations of his works, philosophy etc. which were given in the xx century by literates and philosophers both German and English/UsAmerican.

  • It's the topic of my degree..sorry, I forgot to write "for my degree".

  • Being a debauched french aristocrat he obviously saw all law as beneath him and his class.

  • De Sade was either completely mad or completely evil. How can anyone respect a man who believed that bringing pain to others to bring joy to oneself is good? It is anti-libertity.

  • SADE 4EVA!!!!

  • Sade was a very well educated and well spoken pervert. He mixes eloquent prose with vulgar profanities. Everything that aroused sade was diametrically opposite to what is considered natural: He hated pregnancy in women, despised the vagina and loved the anus, coprophilia, pedophilia, necrophilia, etc.

  • True, he did prefer sodomy, but he couldn't have loathed the vagina or pregnancy that much; he fathered four children (the first died several days after being born). Jeanne Testard (one of the first scandals) was pregnant, in 1765, his mistress, Beauvoisin, was pregnant with another man's child (when she miscarried, he went to her bedside to tend to her) and in 1775, when in Italy, he took yet another pregnant woman for a mistress.

  • Long live the Marquis de Sade.

  • de Sade was most definitely sick. He was a rich aristocratic spoiled brat who thought he was above everything. It's not human nature to want to horrifically torture people and have sex with the dead so I don't know why people are saying he is awesome. Obviously by todays standards we would know he has a mental disorder. I also don't get why these libertine people are defending rape and torture clearly advocating liberty to that extreme shows backward thinking on their part.

  • de sade, was a pervert freak!! who writes about having sex with a 5 year old girl! who! fuck art! theirs no justifying that!

  • Great video. What people fail to understand about De Sade is that he painted human nature as it truly is not how we'd like to imagine it, the man spoke of the unspeakable truths that are within everyone. His philosophies in regards to human nature are up there alongside Nietzsche's another man who tried to take the blinkers from the eyes of people.

Why are we so afraid of truth, why are we so afraid to look deep into the abyss of our being? People like De Sade help us do just that. Viva DeSade

  • Marquis de Sade was one of the greatest of all libertines. He said what others can never say, because he's a man of truth. He's one of my heros and also a man I envy very much.LONG LIVE MARQUIS DE SADE!

  • The Marquis De Sade was not sick.

He was a hero. A libertine. The greatest writer that ever lived.

All crime should be treasured if thee bring you pleasure somehow.

  • I prefectly know De Sade's biography, works & their influence on literature. First of all want to say, that truth is always relative & secondly want to ask you a question. Is Milne a bear? He wrote about bear, so he should be the one, following the route of your logic. So Poppy Brite is bloody maniac & Bram Stoker is old, well versed vampire. Ridiculuous! If only Marquis could hear what you told about him, I bet, he would be flattered. Viciousness, even if imaginary, is always magnetic.

  • He only depicted hell so you could walk directly to heaven.

  • Thank you much for this wonderful tribute! Donatien's interesting even because of one his biography. It is sad, that he wasn't so lucky with escaping jail, as Casanova was, but on the other hand, sublimating his sexual energy into art, he gave us literature masterpieces. Think, he would take full joy of freedom with such attractive appearance, having no so much time to write, as he had, staying imprisoned. Also should say, that was happy to see shots from "Quills". This movie's just brilliant.

  • MAN i dont know why you think that he was an artist, hes fucking insane guy, he had all kind of sexual desviations, he was really crazy, infact, hes son burned a lot of pieces that he wrote

  • j'adore le marquis de Sade!!

  • Marquis De Sade was a big man!I don't believe all the bad things that people say about him! He's my favourite writer and he will be forever! He was the biggest!!!

  • I do agree, he was great and no one had been as brave as he was at that period

  • le video es hermoso. suaviza la imagen de Sade, el cual no es nada suave. es como si mostrara su lado sensible q nunca mostró

  • marquis smells.

  • good!!

  • Great vid! But the sound is not very good :/

  • The sound is horrible, a pity because this song is beautiful and fits Donatien very good

  • The video is beautiful, the song perfect. Sade is great and will be the topic of my degree.Hope I'll do a good job. It will be dedicated to him, a manifest I will pay homage to this genius with.

  • I despise every single movie that has yet been made "about" de Sade (except for Roland Topor's "Marquis.") They are all ego-trips put forth by the writers and directors. Now if anyone ever had the vision to really tell Sade's story rather than USING him as a device, THAT would be a great film. The events of his real life are ten times more fascinating than all these movies put together.

  • I do agree.Donatien´s real life is more fascinating than all parodies made till now

  • Very Cool. I'm a big De sade aficionado, so it was a treat to find this. Fantastic use of images from Sade's real life, like the handwritten letter and the pictures of the various prisons in which he was detained.

"My manner of thinking, so you say, cannot be approved. Do you suppose I care? A poor fool indeed is he who adopts a manner of thinking for others!"

  • I really liked this song, it suits video perfectly. Anyway it's great to know, that there are so many people who admire de Sade's work.

I live in Poland. If you would like to get back to XVIIIth century and face a society of kindness and malice, ostentatious faith and hypocrisy, sobriety and drunkenness, tolerance and hate, pride and complex-feel free to be invited.

  • de sade... hehe have you ever went beyond the movie quills??

I only see images from wikipedia and quills movie shots.

Read some of his stuff it's great!!!

    Recomandation: 100 days of sodomy..

I also write in the same style and, dare i say it, as perverse as he did.

  • isnt it 120 days of sodom?

  • it is

  • As a matter of facts ... the de Sade's and the de Montreuil's have destroyed all pictures of him. the pictures are knows as the marquis are possible pics ... but they are not really confirmed!

And i dare 2 say ... no one is as brilliant as he was!

  • why is there a spam-button when nothin' happen after the marking?

  • descendant de sade's in germany? *smile*

and i move 2 france 2 be a little bit more approach 'him'

  • hello, my name is cory- this man marquis de sade, he is my ancestor- mainly through marrage. my cousin named susan is married to chris sade-who is a direct desendent.

  • Are you serious?

  • What makes you think, that I'm not? ;)

  • BEEP that was meant to be answer to infektes comment- I used wrong button ;)

  • The divine Marquis has more interceders and fans than i thought. GREAT. he deserved it!

  • Only 4 the reason that he said what he see everybody hate him. He was just a mirror of the mankind (till today)

He said "Yes i confess a libertine. I imagine everything what can be imagined BUT i never did all the things. Yes i am and libertin but i am not a criminal or murderer!"

    He didn't lied!

  • Some people must learn to keep apart the person de Sade and the charakters of his books.

He was a opponent of the death penalty and a very fair judge (AFTER his long imprisonment) and that was the time he saved his horrible (ex)stepmother (she was facing the death penalty) he hated so much.

  • And you show a lot of love, human dignity and kidness by calling another human being a "dirty Psychopath"?!

    HYPOCRITE !!!

Marquis de Sade had a lot to say about the false-faced dignity of people like you.

  • Hypocrite? Explane to me, text to me 'Like Human is worthless und unimportant', 'Rape is not a crime und murder is the highest form of pleasure'. De Sade was a sicko.

  • These are fine examples of the Fascist Philosophy, of De Sade. Its a pitty they didnt hang him und burnt his books.

  • "Its a pitty they didnt hang him und burnt his books."

    Again: HYPOCRITE

To answer one of the points you raised:

Yes, murder gives human beings a lot of pleasure. Your subconscious just loves violence. How else do you explain the popularity of war or gangster movies?! Why are 99% of all PC games about killing?! Do you like McDonalds burgers with flesh of murdered animals?!

  • I think you haven´t understood Donatien as he was.And let me tell you he was imprisoned several times not for his "crimes" but for being the voice who shout the sins of the "good people"

  • oh! oh! I love this one too! ahem, "Woman's destiny is to be wanton, like the bitch, the she-wolf; she must belong to all who claim her." -- Marquis de Sade

  • Marquis de sade was ahead of his time! His writings will stand the test of time for many more years to come! Yes the man was a genius indeed!

  • I am an admirer of the Marquis De Sade. I respect him for strongly opposing the death penalty and taking a stand against conventional wisdom and useless restriction. But he wasn't a saint. That is what made him great. He didn't act out everything he wrote, but he certainly did enact some of it. He openly admitted it. The portrayal that Rush gives is a tad romanticized, the Marquis was very licentious and far more irascible than how he is portrayed in Quills.

  • Marquis De Sade Myspace "originalsade"

    Thank you Donatien...you are great.

  • reading the one hundred and twenty days of sodom at the moment, and its proper jackson it is

  • he intrigues me as well, I don't know why though? Are any of the pictures you show his artwork?

  • i always believed that "to be great is to be misunderstood". i haven't read his material but i saw the movie and was inspired. He went stood firm til death keeping alive his products of literature as well as his character. I love this post good job

  • he has been ssome kind of inspiration for me and if I could make time come back,I would like to meet him once

  • MalfoySlave: Thanx for posting this video! The music fits perfectly to the person de Sade.

I had already been pretty rebellious and freethinking before getting in contact with his works. But reading Marquis de Sade for the first time, damn, it was like being truly awakened, enlightened and freed!

What a GENIUS this man was!

  • tHANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I chose this songs because (like you say)fits Donatien perfectly

  • Thank you everybody. I love Donatien more than I could explain,he was exactly a misunderstood genius and a hurted and lonely person

  • Sade was a genius.

  • Most people know of the Marquis de Sade, but few KNOW the Marquis de Sade. He really was a brilliant writer and a great thinker. Greatly misunderstood man, even today. He has a wicked prose style and a great sense of dark humour.

  • For more than two centuries his books were suppressed as the product of an insane criminal mind. I found him to be ahead of this time.

  • tHANK YOU EVERYBODY.

When I first made this clip,I believed I would be alone, but I,m glad I´m not the one who really understood Donatien.Thank you people

  • i think Marquise de Sade is great! he stood up for what he beleived and stuck to it. I WISH i could meet him..don't know y..he jus seems sooo interesting!

  • Excellent thank you.

  • OK, you just managed to put together three of my biggest interests and obsessions: Quills, Le Divine Marquis & Nightwish. Excellent video :)

  • I love this video!... and it seems that we have more than one thing in common!!

  • This video is awesome, I love this movie, Geoffrey Rush is a great actor, the music is beautiful and Donatien...well I've read many of his books, his biography...he was such a special man! Many people can't understand me when they see his books in my library just because they know nothing about him, when they hear "Marquis of Sade" they think of him like a monster, a murderer... they can't see his human side. He was just a different man, a special man.

  • Hmmm, I never saw the movie, didn't know there was one truthfully. I suppose I'll have to get to that, I've admired the Marquis since my freshman year of highschool. I've even read most of his works, much to the chagrin of my dear and loving parents.

Nice video, by the way. I liked your choice of song, it was very poignant and appropriate. Sade is one of those sort of wounded and demonized figures that I fall in love with. That particular trait of mine has caused me much pain in my love life.

  • Well tha movie is not true about the real Sade.

I chose this song because of the lyrics I think is was appropriate for Donatien,My God!I love him!.

  • I admire de Sade with each piece of my heart. Carry his signature as a tattoo (for my eternity) in my skin. He was great. A truly noble men. He did not live like the heroes of his books. Consider. Nearly all of his woman loved him extremly. I love him!!!

(Yes. Geoffrey Rush act very well (he's my favorit actor). But he just act. And story of Qills is unfortunately not completely correct.)

But the vid is very well done. Like it!

  • Thank you very much.

I do agree Donatien was not like some people say or want to make us believe. I´ll try to know all about him because I need the truth to be said.I love him too

  • That was beautiful...

    I love the Marquis...

The first rebel of the highest order, pity many people hear the name and think murderer, although not one person dies at his hands...

  • And when he had the chance of "kill"people being a member of the"Terror"he refused to applied capital punishment

  • I do agree,Geoffrey is great!!!.And Donatien has become very special for me,I am doing a work for my class about him.He really was a fallen son,I have learnt a lot about him and his books and letters

  • Geoffrey Rush is amazing- defiently one of my top five favorite actors- if not number one, he does not get the acclaim or credit he deserves.

Love all the Marquis De Sade pictures as well, love his work, I am reading Justine now- great job on the vid!

  • Yes ,he is one of my favourite actors,if you saw him playing Donatien,or the pirate or Peter Sellers, you can see the man is great

  • geoffrey rus is one of the best actors working in film today. the man can do anything. peace
