Remember he was not such a young man when he made this particular film which ought to remind those whove never seen him just how fantastic a dancer he was at his best! One of the very few people who danced even when they were only walking!
I'm really not into dancing, I'm not interested, and the only person that I really enjoy watching him dance is Fred Astaire. He really makes me wanna learn tap dancing.
My dear ol Dad always sang the praises of Fred Astaire
What I see is: The thing about Fred Astaire is that he was amazing, fluid and light on his feat, there are a few dancers with as much talent as Fred e.g. Gregory Hines (Brilliant strong dancer) but Astaire's talent was to entertain as he danced, he loved it and you knew it.
Other dancers could hammer something out and it would look good, but Fred had the balance through and through. Just a matter of choice
i enjoy watching the many influences of Michael Jackson so of course i enjoyed this. dance a little bit too. you should see the video i posted earlier. i may not be MJ or FA but its all about havin fun at the end of the day. please comment on the video. :)
MJ was amazing ... but you fanbois need to understand ... alot of the color movies ur watching with Fred dancing are from the mid 40's and early 50's ...he was born in 1899 ...by the time Mike was this age he wasn't that great of a dancer anymore ... Warp 50 year old Mike back in time to meet 50 Year old Fred Astaire ...and Fred would have danced circles around him heh. 20/30 year old mike ? sure he's the best but over all Fred's a freak if u actually THINK about it haha
Actually, Michael danced and sang through his 40's (History Tour) and also performed in his 30th anniversary concert in NYC (MSG) ..reunion with his brothers. He didn't perform like that until he came back to rehearse ( after the trial and his departure to middle east.)..And he was very nervous about performing 50 concerts...and lost much weight. If one is a singer/dancer, pianist, etc., it is especially difficult to return to the stage after so many years of NOT performing.
FA is wayyyy better than MJ..MJ could only do one style of dancing and that style came from FA and many other dancers from the 1940's to 1950's..on the other hand FA did ballroom, tap, swing, and constantly learned all new forms of dances that came in style during his lifetime and FA would dance until he perfected the dance even if he bled through his shoes to do it. i dont want to offened anyone but to me MJ was just a person with a high pitched voice and less than mediocre moves compared to FA
"MJ style of dancing came from FA and many other dancers from the 1940's to 1950's"
You just admitted MJ knew many styles. Also, he's greatest inspiration was J. Brown, thus adding the 60's and 70's to his repertoire... Then he crafted his style in the 80's and through the 90's he'd add popping into his dance. A human encyclopaedia.
You seem to lack knowledge regarding MJ to compare him to FA. Astaire himself called MJ after the Motown Billie Jean performance, in 84, to congratulate Jackson.
You must be kidding me! MJ learned almost every style of dancing popular at the time, including ballroom, tap swing (Watch The Jackson's variety show) and a whole lot more. As much as I love FA, you can't compare his dance range to MJ's. Just search "MJ's dance range" on YouTube and you'll realize just how ridiculous your statement is.
Heck, Fred Astaire even said MJ was the greatest dancer of the century.
@FAfan06 FA was also a fan of MJ too. FA called MJ the night after the Motown 25, after MJ did the moonwalk and sang Billie Jean, and told him is was great! Without FA, MJ would have been a lot different, because FA was one of MJ's biggest influences, according to the MJ autobiography (which I just finished reading.)
@FAfan06 personally I think that is a cop out. Even Gregory Hines said that MJ was not the caliber of dancer of Astaire, the Nicholas Brothers, Kelly etc.
Why is there such a need to say FA was better than MJ, or vice versa? What's wrong with admiring them both? They were both incredibly talented, just from different eras and backgrounds. It wasn't until I learned that FA was such an inspiration to MJ that I started to appreciate Fred Astaire, so you could almost say that without MJ less people might appreciate FA. MJ was always very humble about his influences too, he even dedicated his autobiography to Fred Astaire.
Doesn't maters what color, religion or whatever you are or belong to, if you can"t see that FA was the best, you are the end of our country. GTFO and learn fron the best. SAVE THE USA from all those retards god please. Anihilation of the american culture
You can totally see why he won an Oscar award for this! People overlooked Fred's acting capabilities until 1959...On The Beach...Midus Run...The Pleasure of His Company...
A question for the dancers out there, what is that step he does at 2:04, 2:05? I've seen him do it often, for instance with Gene Kelly in the Babbitt routine. Thanks for posting! This movie looks great.

I don't want to offend you but you know nothing about dance, voices, Michael Jackson, or Fred Astaire.

personally i think that both FA and MJ would be real upset you were arguing about them they both had different dance styles and MJ was a fan of FA

Legs faster than Bruce Lee, coordination faster than anybody living or death.
MJ is a clown compared to this, if you don't get it: RIP

1 of a kind, this guy is just unbelievable.
There is only 1. FA is and was the best dancer ever. FA could have done any moves MJ did, MJ couldn't have done half of what FA did. Use logic.

Really? Even though this scene was filmed 30 years or so before Michael even went solo? I guess Fred's other talents include time travel.
