this roller coaster is just like the one in Canada's wonderland, called the Canadian mine buster also a very rough wooden roller coaster, and a little longer than this one.
In the mid 1970's the NCHA National Campers and Hikers Association had a yearly campout there.. we got to spend the whole weekend riding the rides . This coaster is THE roughest wood coaster I've ever been on. A memorable story from one of those trips was when we were on the coaster and the lap bar was not locked... There were NO seatbelts, NO extra padded tight seats, No high headrests.... We held on and we survived!
I worked at this park in the summer of 1985, it was the funnest job i have ever had. i remember going on lunch break and watching this ride over and over. I ran the bumper cars and occasionally the electric rainbow. This was a great amusement park and i really miss it, so many memories.
This was a very good video considering the camera was hand held because this coaster really had some negative G pops at the tops of the hills. By the way, did you notice the video starts as the train leaves the lift hill and it takes about 45 seconds to get back to the station. The cement track below is the track for the turnpike cars.
Thanks. was taken a long time ago on a Canon Hi-8. Pre-digital, the picture used to be subject to G's - when at the bottom of drops, the sync would go out a little. It was easier to keep this quite steady, as the coaster had so much airtime, most of the time your body isn't making too much contact with the train! ;-). BTW - I heard they just pulled it down not too long ago. Will be sadly missed. It holds a special place for me as I had a tattoo from a photograph of this. :-(
Hands down this is one of the most thrilling woody coasters I have ever ridden. It was short but relentless, keeping the fear of flying out present from start to finish. A great coaster that's really missed by a lot of people.
