This is such an awesome tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is a compilation of artists from different genres, backgrounds, & cultures. It is symbolic of the unity of a world filled with all these differences 2 come on one accord 4 the common good of all of mankind - God's creations. I purposely play this song as if it is new all over again every year. Thanks everyone! Many that participated have gone & others have endured some real hardships, but God is able to make all grace abound to u!
I was 13 years old when this song came out and it still gives me goosebumps. My favorite parts are those of JT Taylor, Ms. Stephanie Mills, and Whitney....beginning with "Children of today don[t think love has gone away....
What a great song to honor Dr MLK.I get chills everytime I hear this..who knows where we would be without MLK. Everyone enjoy the king holiday...I'm not working tomorrow
I forgot how good Whitney Houston could blow. She still can, but not like she did when she was in her prime. Nice tribute to M L K. Everyone did a great job on this video, outstanding.
man yall don't understand this was the first song of it's kind, with hip hop and r&b stars honoring dr. king... we was very proud of this... you just don't know if you wasnt there or couldn't relate. At that time television was still mostly white and dr. king holiday was very new, not even observed in all states yet. So I am still happy to review this moment in history... Let the hero shine!....
Open up a window... Let the Hero shine, everyday in our lives yours and mines... I love this part. I love JT's, Stephanie Mills, and Witneys part.... beautiful!
I LOVE THIS SONG PEOPLE ACT LIKE THEY DONT KNOW OR REMEMBER IT..THIS WAS THAT ISH!!! I WAS ONLY 4 WHEN THIS CAME OUT BUT I REMEMBER WAITING ON IT EVERY KING HOLIDAY!! LETS TRY TO GET TODAYS ARTIST TO MAKE A TRIBUTE SONG LIKE THIS... YEAH RIGHT! ..
The official Dedication ceremony will be moved to a date yet determined in September or October. We will announce those details when we have them. For now, we wanted to make sure you had this information as soon as possible.
Even though this song includes the great El DeBarge and Whitney Houston, It still does NOT hold a candle to USA For Africa's "We Are The World". The best part of this song is from 2:03 - 2:23.
Loved seeing Teena Marie... She is so young and beautiful.. RIP Lady T miss you much and thanks for all the good music you left us with. God bless!!!!

they sure do!!!!! they did back in da day thought that is where I saw it originally 25 years ago I was in the Fifth grade when this song was out!!!!!!!
Love Whitney of course! To the jerk who said something about her not being there maybe her schedule was tied up she was the shit back then!!! Bobby was doing his thing by then and put out of NE.
@Ravenluc Exactly! I can't stand haters. Clearly she was the star too of the video. LOL and that fool just had to spread hate on MLK day. Some folks will never get the message!!!
Great respect and admiration For DR. King and to all our Great Legendary Dignitarians. To all who contributed to the Civil Rights movement and who made sacrifices for the privileges/rights we're experiencing today . Have come a long way as a people inspite of the odds. I'm proud of my AFRICAN-AMERICAN history. This1986 tribute to MLK is Timeless. And a song you CANNOT grow out of.
This is a BEAUTIFUL song for a BEAUTIFUL man! The world is a better place because of Dr. King. It is a shame that he wasn't allowed to live long enough to see the rewards the WE ALL reap because of his sacrifices!
Martin Luther King would be proud of the many accomplishments of today. He paved the way for us and I am greatly appreciated. R.I.P and I will never take for granted how hard you and other faught to get us where we are today.

@jazzinc2008 Actually it was all the artists that made this song... Whitney didn't really have a part in the song other than the overdubs on the top. She did great, but I'm not going to say she MADE the song! They all did exceptional!!!
Very cool! I loved seeing Teena Marie and Stacy Lattisaw, along with New Edition and Menudo. And Whitney looked fierce. This was when pop stars actually had talent and not just circus side shows.
I pray that BET will not play the Keisha Cole marathon again this year.
I think I was the only person who was appalled that BET aired the Keisha Cole Marathon on MLK. Back in the day when BET was not owned by Whites, they would play educational, honorable type stuff all day during MLK. I remember they would always play the For a King Video. I pray they will not disrespect his legacy again.
this song is a tribute to martin luther king jr. who fought for stopping segregation and went through it himself. people bombed his house, threatened him, and called him names. and he was still going strong. thats a good leader right there cuz i doubt no one else could do that. thats why hes sucha important man. becuz without him maybe we'd still be different colored sides of towns, different schools, different water fountains all that. thats why he was sucha good man. then shot.....so sad to al

Brings me back to the days of kick the can, manhunt, and freeze tag!!!!! Thank you Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for all you have done!! I know you are looking down on us and blessing us everyday!!
I love this VIDEO!!!! I have this on VHS. I was wondering if anybody else had it. I remember all the words to it and still sing it every now and again. lol
I would like to know if anybody knows who is the white girl singing? Could it be Tina Marie? I know the rest: Whodini, Kurtis Blow, Fat boys, DMC & JMJ (no Run), James T. Taylor (Kool & the Gang) Stacie Latis, Lisa Lisa, Full Force, New Edition (no Bobby Brown), Whitney Huston, Debarge, Stephanie Mills, and Menudo (Ricky Martin). I've been looking for this song/video for years. I remember seeing this on BET in the late 80's. After that, no where to be found, until now. Thanks for posting it.
If you want to call Tina a white girl! Most brothas and sistaz accepted her as one their own! Besides she dates them blk only(rick james). She's from Portugal or shall I say Portuguese Republic. Raised in NYC.
You can find the song on eMule (P2P program). Search for "Whitney Houston RARE Best Hits.rar". There are 2 files, with 19 and 9 rare songs. Share them!. And enjoy!
OMG! where the hell was I when this came out, never seen this before today, wow, SO many old school stars, loved it, not so much the song, but the message and seeing so many not with us anymore and how so many has changed. WOW
thanks for posting this.
