Crocs have sensors around their snout and if you can 'shutdown' them (tapping of the snout) you can cancel the crocs instinct to snap when something is in their mouth. Yes it's dangerous, but Yes it can be done.

This man should've tapped all around the snout, not just the tip of it and he would've been at a better success rate.
