I like this song! I always wondered what it was about. There is this blog called SongSense.info where they tell you what the song really means. I can't believe what some songs are really about. I never would have imagined some of it. Cool Stuff.
MVM70s you make a good point. The Americans missed out on a lot from this man, A. LOT. He is SO not just 'Cars'. Not by half, not by half. The only Americans who probably got to hear more about Gary Numan were probably the New Yorkers if they even did hear any of his other stuff back in the day that is.....
@jrmetmoi - Thank you. At least someone here agrees with me. Let me guess, you're not from around here, (America,) are you? Do you happen to be from the U.K., since you DID say, "The Americans." I just so happen to be a U.S. follower of Gary Numan, or either I'm just that influenced by him. I do plan on being a keyboardist/singer for my own, "One Man Band," to start off with if I ever GET started...
P.S. I don't know how many times you can vote someone up, but I clicked 10 times for you.
@MVM70s Hi MVM70! I've spent huge chunks of my life in both the UK and the US actually and for now I'm living back in the UK again for now so yes I am a Brit!
Back in the late 70s and early 80s Gary Numan was huge everywhere BUT in the US sort of how Kylie Minogue was & is big everywhere but the US because her heyday happened to be around the Nirvana grunge time, and I think Numan didn't pop over in the US because they took a while to warm synth pop.
@MVM70s But strangely enough Numan paved the way for Depeche Mode & Duran Duran to have huge American fans, go figure. BUT a bit of that was his own fault.
Do you mean that the "low budget" music video that I made here is a timeless classic or that the song is? lol I know, it's the song, and probably the one and only "timeless classic" written by Gary Numan from 1979. I find it to be a shame really, that people make a big deal about this ONE song of his in particular. It's almost like people making a big deal about the ONE particular video game series, Halo. I just don't get it. Gary Numan should be getting more praise than this.
Now, Gary Numan's music sounds like Nine Inch Nails' Trent Resnor, (I don't know how to spell Trent's last name,) and not like his own kind of "Numanish" music. From 1979 up until the late 80s, Numan had his own kind of genre, but it wasn't until NIN came around that Numan decided, "Hey. I like this sound of music. I think I'll write some like that myself." That's the way I percieve it. If the truth turns out to be a better reason than that, then I'd like to hear it.
