It looks like Adam was the only one who did his homework for this performance. The Rat Pack were over the top etc... I loved the performance. I can't wait to hear the studio version. I love the little grin Adam does around 0:41 or 0:42 after Jamie says he brought him up etc... Jamie looked shocked when Adam was singing like he didn't expect it. The entrance, the singing with the ending note, and his IT factor is just amazing!
By the way, Adam has mentioned Muse as a definite inspiration in his life. I knew sooner or later we'd get a taste. He heard them when he was in Germany, probably when he was doing the Hair tour, the same time he adopted his rocker look. Consider them truly his muse and this performance a tribute.

ICT - I agree completely. Adam IS A REALLY GOOD SINGER but he is also Overrated. I don't necessarily like every interpretation of a song to turn into a Broadway version and 9 outta 10 times it is. my stand on that isn't a bad one it's just...think about it for a moment. having the "T" background and knwing that you are performing to the far reaches of the room means your projecting more and the transition to contemporary recording isn't always easy or successful bcoz once it's toned down and applied to a recording for the current airways, it's usually the Broadway/Threatre fans that usually say the artist is changing and the current style doesn't represent the artist's original fanbase.

oh yeah i wanted to comment on the Sam Harris thing. There are elements of Sam in there. I'm old school so I remember that Star Search year and Sam's memorable Over The Rainbow performances. He's a great performer and so is Adam even if he isn't my pick to win.

ICT - I agree completely. Adam IS A REALLY GOOD SINGER but he is also Overrated. I don't necessarily like every interpretation of a song to turn into a Broadway version and 9 outta 10 times it is. His persona is heads and shoulders above the competition but I like some others (even dismissed Anoop Dogg) voice better. However, HE DID KILL IT when he performed Tracks of My Tears - WHOA!!!

my stand on that isn't a bad one it's just...think about it for a moment. having the "T" background and knwing that you are performing to the far reaches of the room means your projecting more and the transition to contemporary recording isn't always easy or successful bcoz once it's toned down and applied to a recording for the current airways, it's usually the Broadway/Threatre fans that usually say the artist is changing and the current style doesn't represent the artist's original fanbase.

PERFECTION! Real talent. Theatrical?! Of course! Who wants to go see a concert where someone just sits there and barely hits their notes? Come on... When we go see someone in concert, pay for that ticket, we expect a grand entrance, energy, charisma, and FUN!!! Adam delivers, every time, pure talent... and gorgeous, amazing voice. Adam is incredible! He is a true performance artist. Every movement and every note is crafted and creative. His performance of this song was a hybrid of Sammy Davis Jr. and Bobby Darin. Adam captured the essence of the music of that era.

The truly fantastic thing about Adam is that if you think his performance is too flashy, more performance than vocals, go watch Tracks of My Tears or Mad World. They have absolutely no bells and whistles, it's just his voice, and the tone is so beautiful. I personally love the big theatrical performances, but that's just me. =]
