. The way damu uses multiple samples in one track is really something to see. Genius. Id say hes up there with the best, if only he was around 10-20 years ago he would be huge.
man i use a 1000 and as much as i think any other mpcs are above it, i know the functionality is the same. maybe the sound generators are what makes the difference but i am not gonna switch up just coz the best producers use other mpcs. Having said Mr. Damu, love your work. peace
he is one of the best producers ever ! he brings/brought back the real hip hop and poofed that there are still people out there that know what good music is .
As I watch this, I'm lookin' over at my 10 crates of records that are cryin' out to me to go rob a Guitar Center to get an MPC and I feel like I'm slowly dying on the inside...
Man I made my very first beat on an MPC 2000. So whenever I come across folk who have made the mpc a flawless instrument of choice, I have to pay homage! Keep doing what you do Damu!
i love DAMU its funny cus im kinda new to listenin to his beats ive always been a Jay Dilla Madlib Preemo J ROCC Pete Rock listener but i tell you what DAMU has got some EPic and Extraordinary beats
i just smoked a joint and im watching this laughing my ass off and crying at the same time as to how dope this is very ill beats never stop making beats like this this is incredible
yeah damu, please put em up agian, man! gang starr & black moon beat, nautilus beat, the biz markie joint, the jazzy beat...all of them fine ass tracks man...always loved em...
Why they always comparin' Damu to Pete Rock? They both have their own unique and original way to interpret hip-hop music. They really don't sound anything alike! Peace.
personally, i think they sound alike, but they have their own unique touch.. but imo, i think niether is better than the other.. damu is as good as pete rock and pete rock is as good as pete rock.. theyre basically tied
@Tableturn hey man im curious. does someone like Damu have the song already laid out on the MPC in song mode and then track mute somehow? Or is he doing it all on one sequence and just muting tracks to play the song how he wants it. i used to do it all on one sequence but i couldn't record my main out playing the tracks so i had to use song mode which i hate and is the most tedious shit on earth. is there a way to record myself playing back the track on one sequence and track muting? thx a lot
@crayyawn Song Mode plays back your sequences in whichever order you choose.
Damu is playing back in Track Mute. That's why he hits individual pads which correspond to each track, to mute or un-mute. It's probably within one sequence, but I can't tell without seeing the screen on the MPC! You can switch between sequences in Track Mute though.
You can record yourself performing track mutes within individual sequences.
@Tableturn oh right you can. yeah i bet thats what hes doing. about song mode my problem is i like muting the tracks when i feel like they should go off/come on, i dont like having to program out the entire song in a planned way it takes me forever and kills my creativity. how do you record "live" if you were in track mute? someone said he records into his computer what do i need to do that? some audio interface thing to plug into?
@crayyawn If you want to record yourself, performing track mutes live, then you'll have to get an audio interface, yes. I use a Behringer U-Control and record into Audacity (I'm poor!) which seems to work fine. Damu tracks out his MPC to a multi-track I think - based on his old videos.
nah bruh dont quit....keep it goin...there are so many producers i've heard that made me say the same as you...then i was like nah ima keep it up but try my best to do betta than them...so nah man keep doin ya thing....
@EIGGER85 yeah. it's easy to get depressed and down on yourself (at least for me) when you hear great producers like this. everyone started in the beginning though. I heard some really early stuff Damu did years ago with flex mathews and it was amazing how much he's evolved since then and how his beats sounded like something i could actually comprehend making back then. that gave me some hope to just keep working at it
dude i have felt the same way. .. but i took all the energy of that. .. and tried to learn things from the producers i watch and hear. . . . and i still keep rocking and chopping beats as we speak :)
