  • im dropping a 2.3L turbo ford engine from my old ford merkur.. also from the turbo coupes and svo mustangs.. into my 1990 240sx, any suggestions for my swap. like what oil pan i should use? cause i can use info from the 302 swap and try and firgure out what mounts oil pan ect... i will have to use to save time and future headaches.... i fab alot of my own parts also. running a holset turbo and going for 350-400hp. gotta love the old 2.3 turbo engines. unbreakable.

  • @pwkid There a a lot of better ready-made setups with all the guess work taken care of for you. Check out Hinson Supercars. They have made the swaps REALLY easy. Also, their kits are for the LSX V8's, so you'll have a lighter V8 that makes a HELL of a lot more power.

  • @colindyvig Only reason I dislike the LS motors is because they're getting really really expensive. The SBF is a good motor, just a little out dated. I can get one from the junkyard for like $150 on 1/2 off sales all day. Thanks for the heads up though.

    what... LS motors are getting cheaper and cheaper your obviously overlooking their vortec counterparts. I just picked an aluminum 5.3l vortec from a wrecked 04 chevy SSR with wiring harness and pcm for $800 and it has 10x the potential of a ford 5.0l

  • @likeabus Lol where do you live? They are hovering around $1.5-2.5k for just the motor out here in Hot Rod central (SoCal). Nope, I've always been looking at the vortec's and the 6.0 have been rising to near LS1 prices as well. 5.3-4.8's are still cheap, however that may change as Car Craft and Hot Rod keep doing more articles on them.

    Best bang for the buck, you just can't beat a SBF. You can find 302/351's all day in the yard for like $250 or less on a 1/2 day.

  • sure ull get twice the power u idiot the engines 3 times its size and also 3 times its weight. v8's will also be more powerful but power to weight ratio makes a sr20 or ka better in a s13 than a heavy ass 302 and besides if the 302 is carb's its less efficient and alot less fun.   • Well it hardly has any weight to it so hell even if you put in stock 302 it would still be fun to drive. I think its fine as long as you can do other stuff than just run it down a straight line. I mean can the suspension handle the heavier engine. I like it though

My father has a 406 and he never has problems he changes the plugs once in awhile and keeps running mid 9's consistant in a 3200lb camaro. I'm a nissan fan all the way but i love chevy's and hate ford's but i do admit the new mustangs are sexy :)

  • @beenz08 A car doesn't need 350hp to run 12s nor does a 302. My little foxbody mustang does fine running twelves all day long and all it has is gears, electric fan, GT40P heads, full MSD ignition s ystem, and good rubber out back. Doesn't take much to make these cars run quick and they'll do that reliably.

    a 302 will cost you a couple hundred bucks and be carbed, a SR20 tune will run you more then that.

    To build a SR to over 270ish (mustang 302 powerish), will cost you over 3K.

    So if you want to get out there and drive, go for a cheap and fun engine, but if you want your car in the garage so long that you have a family and have to sell it, then build your amazing SR :P

  • @beenz08 Actually, if you tune it right with enough time and (bad part, where I agree with you) money, a Ford 302 is a decent engine. Sometimes, even remarkable...with a LOT of work.

    I disagree with the SR20, though. A KA24DETT is lighter, faster, higher revving, and more reliable.

    Besides. Do you know how expensive it is to get a SR20 DET thats in good condition? KA24's are better anyway.(Higher revving, more reliable...and best of all...you wont have to sell your left leg to buy one.)

    Chevy 383's and 406's are fine...But a Turbo'ed 331 is capable of over 1000 hp. Bet you cant find an SR20 that gets those numbers.

  • @MikeW259 sr20dets arnt that expensive and there a direct swap just need the new wiring harness, for a good ka24de boosted you'll make a bit more power then a sr20det but your probly going to be in the turbo kit for as much as the sr20 motor. As for making 1000hp on the 331 it would be a blast to drive but you would never get traction it would be pretty pointless.

  • ok im confused with the American badged 240sx. i have just watched three videos. one with and Australian 180sx, on with an s14 200sx silvia, and this one which appears to be a 180sx front with an s13 silvia rear (aka onevia/sil80). these cars have all been described as 240sx's, someone please clear this up for me.

  • @freestyla101 in america, chassis s13 are known as 240sx and there are 2 of them: coupe like this one and a fastback like 180sx rear. two of them with pop up lights. this cars come with 2.4L inline four non turbo.

  • interesting coz our s13 comes standard with fixed lights. the one in this video has a 180sx front and s13 rear. but im still confused over the s14 labeled as a 240sx??

  • In America the s13's all had pop up lights. there were 2 door coupes (180sx front &s13 silvia rear), 2 door fastback (180sx), and 2 door convertible (same as coupe but convertible). All USDM 240sx's came with a 2.4L Inline 4, the KA24DE (DOHC) & KA24E (SOHC). The 180sx had a CA18DET and the 200sx had a SR20DET.
