well we can't afford it and even ending both wars (note: these wars should be ended ASAP) won't stop the tidal wave of Baby Boomers collecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The only way live up to the current promises is higher taxation and sell off more debt. The entitlement programs as they currently stand plus compounding interest will swamp the federal government in the future.
I just think that there are a lot of programs that the current US government has invested in, without considering the spiraling costs of them. The thing with Obama, is that he wants to move out of Iraq and move more troops to Afstan. It seems the US population will have to pay for all this, along with the free health, he is probably going to struggle to fund. Depending on how many useless programs he can shut down, to divert money to his policies. However that will still not solve the deficit.

Blame Democrats. They started it with the Social Reforms of the 1960's and the Social Security Act of 1965!!! Allowed Social Security Tax revenue to be put into the federal budget. He says that he will delegate some of the saved money towards paying it off; however, our country's debt has grown so substantially that we are in a state where most of the tax money spent on defecit reduction goes directly to paying the interest for that year off. You are already spending 10 - 12 billion per month on Iraq. - McCain would rather you stay another 50 years if her were in power.
-- Wouldn't that many be rather spent 'better' into a health care system, which is in dire need for a lot of people in the US?
Government hospitals are not crappy and that is my testiment to having a broken rib, leg and neck injury. (Our British 'National Health Service) - Sure it's not perfect, but better is surely better than dying.

There is no CURE to paying that 10 trillion back immediately,- also consider that the US has a wide debt of over 53 trillion altogether.
---- Beside the point, you will need to look at Obamas policies on economics (On his website) to understand that he trying to provide for a system that will pay for itself, if not the American people, a service that they will notice that they needed years ago, just like our NHS system.

well we can't afford it and even ending both wars (note: these wars should be ended ASAP) won't stop the tidal wave of Baby Boomers collecting Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The only way live up to the current promises is higher taxation and sell off more debt. The entitlement programs as they currently stand plus compounding interest will swamp the federal government in the future.

Well to be honest, your country spends 500 billion dollars per year on your military budget.
I think that is one HUGE budget that Obama should look into, to decrease. That is A LOT of money and would go a LONG, LONG way.

I just think that there are a lot of programs that the current US government has invested in, without considering the spiraling costs of them. The thing with Obama, is that he wants to move out of Iraq and move more troops to Afstan. It seems the US population will have to pay for all this, along with the free health, he is probably going to struggle to fund. Depending on how many useless programs he can shut down, to divert money to his policies. However that will still not solve the deficit.

I'm not sure if there is a solution the problem.
Other than pulling all US troops out of every country. Pulling the military budget to a controlled amount. Getting rid of costly programs, which are useless. I see no way out.
It's a HUGE problem... better start NOW to get rid of that problem, for a better American future. Who knows!

There are people who have been predicting this economic situation for years even decades.. it has something to do with Bush, but he is not the root of the problem. I am from England and it appears to me that 9 trillion dollars is an unsurmountable debt. $450,000 approx for every american taxpayer. Wow!

450,000 is the long term mortgage of the medicare/medicaid unfunded promises. Dividing the current posted debt is 45,000.

Democrats never increase the National Debt because they tax the money supply already in existence... Whereas, Republicans increase the debt because they borrow.... And borrow... And borrow... That's why George Bush's Tax Cuts have added $2 Trillion dollars to the National Debt alone!!!

Yeah, we can't even pay for medicaid or social security for all upcoming baby boomer retirees. How the fuck are we going to provide health care to the rest of the population?
Also, the national debt increases because of compounding interest (remember its all on credit). The Iraq and Afghanistan War didn't do add to the National Debt as much as people think.
Obama has no idea what he is doing either.

How about all of it going toward paying off our deficit? 9 Trillion? That's just on one of the books the government keeps. There are 3 books. the sum of the 3 books are abound 44 trillion.

And then he talks about spending more money and raising taxes? How about cutting spending, bringing ALL the troops home, and stop devaluing the dollar? The scary part is that he has no idea what causes problems in the economy!

He doesn't actually adress the issue and he wants to spend more money! It's absurd. We need either Barr, or Nader. Reject the two party system that wants to run this country into the ground. End the fed. There's nothing in the constitution that grants the federal government the power to give out health care. Personally I think that any welfare/ government health care systems should be handled locally or state wide, that would give people more control over what happens.

Without dealing with the issue of the Federal Reserve, there will be no shrinking of the National Debt.
The best Obama could hope to do is slow down the debt growth rate by a percentage point or two.
It's a shame that the two party cartel has a monopoly on our Government.

Obama's a smart guy, and he's exactly right on Paygo, and pet project spending. He's probably right on spending for the war being a waste, but that doesn't even come close to adding up to fix the problem. His ideas don't make huge differences, they make tiny ones.
I recommend people search for David Walker, former head of the GAO on here. Walker probably knows more about this issue than anyone alive and gives dead straight answers.

Yes Medicare is the big green vacuum but, putting peoples name in a database doesn't reduce liabilities by 34 trillion dollars. Maybe someone should advocate personal responsibility or is that too radical of an idea.

Let me get this straight...We will be able to make a dent in the $59 trillion debt of the Federal Government, 85% of which is unfunded Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid promises, by putting people's medical records in a digital format and checking kids for asthma regularly???? Obama talks about as much spending domestically as we are currently spending overseas. I haven't seen a convincing honest speech from Obama on the weak dollar and the federal reserve. He is still far better than McCain and the rest of the people seeking to keep embezzling money from the American tax payer. Obama needs to learn a thing or two from Ron Paul.

What do you expect?! He's a member of the CFR which is joined at the hip to the Federal Reserve. Ron Paul was the only candidate who wasn't, if I am not mistaken.
