  • Man that's what remember about restrictor plate racing. Excitement until the final lap instead of this crappy 2 by 2 stuff they have have now. I miss the old days. "AND HERE COMES EARNHARDT"

  • Read Earnhardts biography. GoodWrench gave Childress an OPEN checkbook To get the 3 car ANY and EVERYTHING he needed to win. That's right, an OPEN checkbook. Ive read alot of biography of many drivers. Most ly Earnhardts. I read that fact more than once.

  • Also, if folks are wondering whats missing from NASCAR today, just listen to the crowd at the 3:00 mark. Love him or hate him, Dale generated a hell of a lot of excitement.

  • Fitting that The Indimidator got his last one while his car was "scraped and beaten on the right side" - the true sign that as a racer you were kicking ass all day. A racer never minds the right side getting beat up, but if the left side is beat up it say's you've been getting passed all day.

  • this was his last win but it shows u y he was THE BEST EVER!!!

  • Man, I can't even start to explain how much I miss plate racing. A lot of people never liked plate tracks, but I absolutely loved Talladega and Daytona before the two car tandem stuff. I'm a huge NASCAR fan, but I have to make myself watch a full race at Daytona or Talladega nowadays. The pack racing was non-stop action all race long for me. I really hope NASCAR does something to eliminate this two car tandem stuff; hell, the majority of drivers don't even like the tandem racing.

  • when earnhardt died.... so did nascar

  • I'm glad I lived to see races like this. I was there in '99 and '00. They say he could see the air in those plate races. I say it was brass balls and a hunger to win. Guys like this only come along once in a great while. Guys like this built race cars on dirt floors and always had grease under their fingernails. Most of the pretty boys now are just plain pussies. Smoke is the only one close to the old guys.

  • i dont like nascar now becase how they changed the cars so now the whole style of racing is different. i dont get why they did that because now nascar isnt popular. when nascar was like this it was popular. why change a good thing?

  • Wow, this was an incredible finish! Then we see almost an instant replay in 2003. 'Cept, it was Dale's driver, Mikey, who wins.

  • Earnhardt will be rememberd as the best nascar driver ever

  • That generation of race car drivers can never be matched.

  • Now this is balls to the wall on the edge of your seat racing! I miss this type of aggressive mayhem racing.

  • I was 6 months old when this race happened, and my Dad said he sat me down infront of the TV screen to watch it. :P

  • @international153 He is on the game, you go to the Edit Driver Screen, and enter The Intimidator as your name.

  • this is racing what they do now is boring

  • one dude likes racing without passing or excitement

  • In the game NASCAR Chase for the Cup 2005 I race as Dale Earnhardt and won the race at Las Vegas.

  • @international153 How do you drive him? i dont see him.

  • stupid COT, ruined everything, good thing they got rid of that wing and put back the spoiler

  • R.I.P Dale Sr.

  • lap 4- earnhardt in 18th........lap 2- "and here comes earnhardt".........man i miss him

  • what a finish Dale Sr last WIN!!....200mph at the finish and a wreck!!. RIP #3

  • One of the greatest drivers and drives in NASCAR history. Its not the same since Dale is not on the track.

  • Chuck Norris is an Earnhardt fan

  • Why he´s calling Dale "Mr. Restrictor Plate" when his famous nickname is "The Intimidator"?

  • @Axel7043 he was also known as Mr. Restrictor plate, cause he won a lot of plate races. Its also rumored, he could "see draft".

  • You'll never see anything like this again race fans.

  • i miss the old espn doing the races..bob jenkins, benny parsons, ned jarrett

  • i miss dale ernhardt sr

  • ironic that on dales last win there was a last lap crash this should have been his last year in nascar but it is what he wanted to do and he did it until the day he died RIP Dal you were the best

  • what was jr thinking??? I wouldve pulled up in front of sr, let alone my dad....but i think jr wated to prove her could beat his dad, without help from his dad. Seeing as how competitive they were. Either way...awesome. I recommend you all buying " DALE the movie" on dvd. 13 bucks at walmart. Comes with a photo copy of the 98 daytona 500 program cover...car entry form of the 98 daytona 500. A dale sticker, The documentary with incredible footage, this race and the entire 98 daytona 500.

  • AMAZING!!!! He's incredible!!! I wish I started watching NASCAR when he was alive. I would've still cheered for Jr to. I would cheer for both of them! Incredible racing right there!!! I could watch this video over & over!!! R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt Sr. ♥

  • too bad jr wont ever amount to a hair on his dads ass.

  • i watched that race. greatest race ever its really sad to see 3 gone

  • I remember watching this race too. I was in 3rd grade doing homework. what a night that was. Best race ever.

  • i was in 3rd grade too haha

  • I wonder what Jr was thinking when his old man just came out of nowhere and stole the show.

Absolutely one of the most classic finishes of all time.

  • Greatest ever??? Any arguments?

  • @jsj297 nope!

  • @jsj297 i wouldn't say the greatest but right up there in the top 5,don't for get bill elliot's win at talladega around 86, bill was 5 laps down and he won i beleived he qualified at 212 mph???? them were the good old days!!!!!!! not taking anything away from senior, he was amazing, he could see the air swirling around !!!!!!! i do miss him!!

  • @intimidator6969 - elliots car was also a "little narrower" than the others...SHH. lol. yes he ran 212, but the others ran 210, which is where i think they should be running nowadays!! heck, their safer, so why not!!

  • Like the Foo Fighters said... There Goes My Hero !!!!

  • HOW DID HE GET THROUGH ALL THESE CARS?!?!?!

    Greatness.

  • this was talladega at its finiest, it just isnt the same anymore. no more 4 wide for the lead

  • Absolutely one of the greatest finished in a long time. With the new Aero Package and COT, something like this can happen again if there's a 35 car pack, and it could be anyone

  • who are the announcers?

  • Ned jarret, Benny Parsons(?) & Jerry Punch

  • 3 Chevrolets breaking away from the pack on the last lap with the #3 leading them-what a beatiful sight it was. :)

  • ACE, you still got a lot to learn .....lol.

  • No.3 car LEGEND lives.Like it or don't.

  • Bill Elliott

  • Used to be some awesome racing back in the day!

  • Dale Earnhard Sr. was the GREATEST driver of all times!!!!!! R.I.P. copy and paste /\ that statement if you agree.

  • I miss the old racing... what happened?

  • @akeith2002

    Earnhadt died....

  • @akeith2002 The car of tommorow is what happened

  • @akeith2002 espn happened

  • @akeith2002

    NASCAR ruined it,that simple

  • @akeith2002

    COT...

  • @akeith2002

People who have never raced before in their lives are in control (Hilton&France)

  • 2:33

Benny Parsons (R.I.P) said, "How did Dale make it through all those cars?"

I have the answer, it's because he's the best driver in NASCAR history!

    R.I.P Dale

  • best Nascar driver you mean

  • No, I meant the best dirver in NASCAR history.

  • Sorry. But you can't beat the king. But I like Dale too.

  • Well, true.

  • Comment removed

  • OMG Finally someone else point that out too! I <3 you!

  • LOL. Petty in his prime raced 3x or more a week, and they also ran bigblocks agains small blocks!! Talent wise Petty couldnt hold Dale's jock.

  • I don't give a damn what anyone says that man as the best racer that ever lived there will never be another Dale Sr.

  • HELL YEAH!!

  • Best racer outside of Secretariat!!!

  • BTW That's Drivers who have died in the last 58 years in NASCAR Competition prior to the use of the COT of 08' and 09'

  • the wreck after the finish was amazing!!!! you should have seen it!!!

  • If you watch with 5 laps to go, Earnhardt made a pass on Rich Bickle below the yellow line. Imagine. If today's rules were in effect back then, this win would have never happened.

  • but you gotta admit, dale would love the cot because they don't take a lot of damage when they hit each other

  • I agree completely - plus they're actually hard to spin out with that large wicker on the windshield. I would live to see Kyle Busch try to tangle with the Man In Black.

To Nocstaa - the yellow line and the COT didn't ruin anything. The manufacturers ruined it with their constant bickering. Those are terrific safety rules. The only thing I wish they would change is bring back the roof wicker and open the plates up again - THAT was fantastic racing!

  • I fully fucking agree. The superspeedway races from late 2000 to 2002 with the wickerbill and the relaxed restrictor plates...that was some awesome racing. I remember the 2001 Daytona 500, there was no way NOT to be 3 wide!

  • That yellow line is the dumbest rule there is...it basically ruined the sport.

Same thing with the "Car of Tomorrow." I lost alot of interest in Nascar because of those rules.

I miss the old restrictor plate racing...

  • The only thing I miss is DALE..

  • I agree, this race proves that using the whole racetrack changes the outcome completley, and makes for more exciting finishes.

  • yep...

  • absolutely the BEST fucking come from the back to win of ALL time!

  • actully senior went to the front in 4 laps

  • hahaha so weird seeing them go below the yellow and the grass like its nothing

  • Comment removed

  • I was there!

  • Now that's racing!!! Oh how I starve for the good old days... don't hear cheers like that anymore... Excitement in racing now days seems more like a fairy tale then a true story. Even the excitement in the voices of the TV personalities is awesome. What the hell happened to NASCAR???

  • hasn't been the same since Earnhardt died honestly. i think that was a huge turning point in the sport sadly. R.I.P. Dale

  • I agree with you 100% Love Dale Sr. or Hate him, the sport was forever changed that day, much like the NYC skyline on Sept 11th.

  • I know how to bring back the old spirit of NASCAR, and it means putting me at the helm of a racing team and saying "fuck the driving rules, race it hard."

  • They have to do something!!! At least guys can pass more this year!!! And as far as safty goes and all that. I think I can count the number of drivers who have died in the heat of competition in the 58 years prior to the use of the COT on one hand!!! Even with all the AMAZING WRECKS!!! Suck on that NASCAR!!! But Seriously Safty is a good thing Guys. I know I know!!!

  • geez he was pretty far back and came back to win he was the master shame he is not with us anymore rip dale

  • in the end you can see dale jr trying to get in the front to race his father

  • You go Dale!

When drivers still had balls ad didn't run single file for 30 laps at the end.

  • Never any better. RIP 3

  • now thats racing, man I wish dale sr was still alive

  • wow thats bone chilling..

  • 1:22 lol at the yelling

  • why does this vid keep getting pulled?

  • wow wow wow dale sr is the man no other driver could pull off so many daring moves and get to the front like he did r.i.p #3

  • Thats cause he was the best. Happy Birthday Dale.
