  • its ironic, you have to look at the last seconds when the drag queen strips her wig and carries her out...

  • Grace é belíssima !

    Sua voz é divina !

  • just when i thought she was finally gonna do something normal the ending happened lmao grace jones is the best

  • She is living art! everything she does! love her so much, even a lovely melody like this suits her

  • Bella interpretazione, ma secondo me lontana anni luce da quella di Renato Zero e Mariella Nava tra la'ltro autrice del brano......

  • still-live.. a classic genre,

who is mother and where is 'over the rainbow'?

  • @311813511 I really have no fucking idea what that means??

  • Whooooou!!!

  • She was a super model is is very beautiful

  • Youtube cannot decide how to keep it's format, this is rather confusing Youtube--get it together please. : )

Someone asked me if I'm going to life the secret of the male version? What secret??? She performs the song twice, once as a man, once as a woman.

Not to quote a famous artist, but....hehe "No Secrets"....

Speaking of secrets, if you think Hurricane is a great album... just wait. hehe

    : )

  • i wish i could download this song to my MP3 and listen to it over and over....

  • what a shame that the Italian director of the Sanremo show didn't pay attention to the rehearsals - he'd have known e'd better stay on GJ's close-up at the end of the song for the coup de théatre (her wig is taken off and she's carried away). Instead he favoured the traditional wide shot, depriving the TV audience (and the song) of its ending. What an idiot.

GJ is iconic and theatrical, a joy to behold, a unique talent.

  • Yes, there is a male version. Someone was recently asking me personally about it. She comes out dressed as a man, very similar to Annie Lennox doing her male version of Sweet Dreams from the awards show in the early 80's. "Male Grace" has a cigarette, and even a somewhat shave shadow...at the end, she fakes a collapse as she does in this one.

She does both performances for a reason, but i"ll leave that a secret as to why, for now. : )

    ~M

  • aw you are keeping the suspense Mathew... that's exciting! How do you hold all of this information anyway? I just cant stop listening to this performance over and over again, i think its exquisite! And im sad that the male version disappeared from youtube... do you know where we could source it from by chance? Her voice is so full, so warm and sensitive in this piece.

  • Comment removed

  • come on ! are you going to lift the secret of the male version please?

  • THAT'S RIGHT!

Triphop wrote 7 months ago where is the male version she did of that song? That used to be on youtube and its not there now! Grace turned up with a fake moustache and does it in her butchest style, that was very beautiful too... anyone help?

  • a moment of eternity

  • Whoooohooo,Thanks for Great post!

  • spalle al muro...renato zero...ma grace l'ha resa semplicemente divina sta canzone!!

  • dios mio que maravillla ¡¡¡¡¡¡ i love her ¡¡¡¡ I LOVE ¡¡¡

  • Grace Jones is perfect forever!

  • Who is this, Amanda Lear or her sister???

    Sorry hahaha

  • Dov'è il filmato con la versione maschile ch in passato c'era???

  • So beautiful & charismatic. I've loved Grace Jones since I was a kid.

  • I prefer the 'male version' of this song, but this is still a great performance from a unique artist. If you like this, have a look at Giardini di Marzo too. It's Grace at her live best.

  • She's so darn beautiful I don't know what to say. She's my inspiration.

  • Can't take my eyes off that face. A star.

  • LOVE THE ENDING! NOW THAT IS AN ARTIST!

  • It's a cover of the Renato Zero song Spalle al Muro. You're right, he does have a lot of classical influence in his music, but I daresay you'd be surprised at him.

  • she is great i call her la classe.

  • rare and talented woman....lol love the wig too

  • Meglio questa versione che quella italiana.

  • E' vero! Anche a me piace molto di più questa di Spalle al muro!

  • l'unica cosa...non ti sembra un po' drogata?

  • peccato che spesso assume atteggiamenti mascolini! E' una così bella donna.

  • absolute class

  • Miss Jones is "something else",I just love her.

  • Brava, complimenti!

Ma all'inizio il conduttore diceva Blacke Jones anzichè Grace Jones?Mi sembrava di aver sentito così.

  • She or he, whatever it is, is simply WONDERFUL! Great Performance! Final show was superb....

  • Grace Jones is a woman...she was born in Jamaica. She's a contralto (in between Tenor and Mezzo-Soprano). This makes her unique since it's pretty rare. In fact, in high school there was a girl in the tenor section of our choir and I haven't seen that since. And that was 10 years ago!

  • i love this song !!! i love the wig !!!

  • Meglio in italiano

  • An album of this kind of material could actually work for her. xD

  • ICON!!

  • Grace Jones is one of the most beautiful women in the world, sexiest voice, and more taste in her pinkie than most have in their entire body!

  • don't hate...she wearin that shit. and singing well to top it all off

  • Amen sista!

  • Oddly enough she looks more like a man here than when she's bald, but she is still beautiful and amazing.

  • hate the wig

  • Ms. Grace Jones is inimitable. She inspired me when I was a teen, I love her still. This woman is a star and an icon, not those vapid little caricatures like Britney, Lindsay and Paris.

  • amen!! she was definitley differnt!!

  • Grace Jones should write an autobiography. It would be a best-seller and a fascinating read.

  • agree

  • This is incredibe. The fainting at the end totally caught me off guard. She had me in tears then laughing.

I'm a diehard fan.She is supurb and over the top but surprisingly never over done. Grade A+ and above!

  • The song is absolutely beautiful.

  • i agree with you 102%

  • there was so much ado about this performance in Italy those days in 1991. I found her amazing and fascinating. the song in italian is so charming and moving; she OF COURSE did not take it seriously, still did a very good job.

  • GRACE jONES HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 70'S AS A SINGER. THEY HAVE TORN THIS POOR WOMAN UP SINCE THEN. "I NEED A MAN, THATS THE TROUBLE, DO OR DIE" ECT. THEY CALLED HER UGLY BUT AS YOU CAN SEE HERE UGLY SHE IS NOT. NO TALENT, WRONG AGAIN! WHY IS IT THAT JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE IS NOT LIKE THE REST OF THE NORM THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO CUT THEM DOWN? HEY GRACE YOUR THE B0MB! I STILL LISTEN TO ALL YOUR MUSIC AND AS A MODEL YOU WERE THE TOP!!! THANKS FOR ENTERTAING ME FOR SO MANY YEARS!

  • she looks like a drag queen..great artist

  • Is she a man???

  • I'm an even bigger fan now!!!!!

  • she is so pretty! her face is perfect, and she is sooo cool (watch video A DATE WITH GRACE)

  • I saw a short clip with who I think is Grace Jones a few years ago. She was dressed all in white and was singing on stage during a fashion show. Models were coming and going and she was in the middle singing her heart out. I was blown away and have never forgotten it. If anyone knows what I am talking about please contact me I would love to see that video again.

  • yes Naomi Campbell favors her , Naomi Campbell , Tyson Beckford (the male model) they all share a resemblance , they're all Jamaican .

  • Naomi Campbell was born in South London, so calling her Jamaican is a bit of a stretch.

  • If a Chinese person is born in London, you'd be fool to say, 'calling them Chinese is a stretch'!!! would u still say that? Your heritage is who you are, no matter where you're born. It dictates what you look like, what your values are and everything! Even though I do speak and live like a Brit, I know that I'm Jamaican. My grandparents came from there, but I still look like and have the tendencies of a Jamaican.

  • i would not judge someone no matter what .we are in this world togheder and we should get along and be gething ready to welcome our aliens from other planets to help us save our world and live in peace g what we are in this world thogheter and we are human or are we aliens

  • Great ♥ Grace

  • was this ever recorded. please can anyone let me know how i can get a copy.

    Simply stunning

  • Who is the original performer of this song?

  • Renato Zero from the Festival of San Remo, Italy, 1991, written by Marinella Nava,'Spalle al Muro' - = 'The back to the wall'.

    Beautiful song - beautifully performed.

Renato Zero a fantastic Italian singer.

  • RENATO ZERO - SPALLE AL MURO

  • I wish grace would make a comeback and just kill everybody.

  • She's busy making a new album and she will be performing in june 2007 in Denmark, if I'm not mistaken, so she will definetely make a comeback.

  • love grace

  • Wow!!!! What a performance. what a lady.

  • Is there something about her voice in this song, that brings Marlene Dietrich to mind? Just a thought...

  • You see where Naomi Campbell snatched her signature style from...the female ingenue of Grace Jones/she is stunning in femme persona..love this avant garde performance...bravo diva!

  • her and naomi resemble alot, more than i ever thought before

  • what an amazing artist. she never ceases to amaze me

  • I love this video - it's Grace without all the bangs and whistles that she normally brings. A simple song, well sung and she looks beautiful.

  • grace your so dam hot! will lays love you

  • vibrato, yes, i am sorry i do not use the correct terminology. the fact you knew what i meant means the distinction is not vital.deary me.

  • if you want to heat grace jones sing loud and low, (and high) check out her 2006 rendition of la vie en rose at the louis vuitton show in japan. itsa on you tube on the second page of grace jones videos.

  • you are above and beyond this. grace jones! i will always know you and love you. heart and soul.

  • awww..I love Grace with more grunt than this..leave the ballards to the talentless ones..

  • It's just like clowns in a circus. They can play the trompet perfectly...but make jokes with it. Grace did the same with her talented voice... She can sing! It's sad to see she made such a fuzz with her career, bad choices of producers etc... her highlight was during the Compass Point sessions.

  • she has a beautiful deep voice!!!

  • oh my my my...always amazing...love her or hate her, you can't take your eyes off her...what a great song

  • That was freakin' FABULOUS

  • She looks like a Drag Queen. she should stick with the short hair and not the weave. Looks horrible.

  • I don't think so she was wearing too much make up the hair is fine.

  • What marvelous, sensitive vocals. And it is good to see her feminine side for once, even if she does look like a man dressed as a woman.

  • What a beautiful song, it must be even more so in Italian. She does it great justice. Thank you Grace!

  • I just love her vibrator. It sounds real, and not forced like a lot singers.

  • Ok, that's a Grace comment, if there ever was one. But I think you meant to write "vibrato." Laughing with you, dear...

  • Oh Grace Dear! What a gorgeous song!

  • She looks like black Pete Burns(from Dead or Alive) ;)

  • Perhaps I am just dramatic by nature...but I found this beautiful. The words are haunting. Wether or not Grace Jones takes the performance seriously or not--is open to observation, but the vocals are very, very good for the lyrics. I hope this stays on here forever!

  • Eh, I agree that her face definately has a masculine quality to it. It lends itself towards great cheekbones. : P

  • This is a wonderful italian song, it belongs to a great italian singer, Renato Zero. This video was taken from the italian Sanremo Festival (1991) and Renato Zero was just one of the entries, singing it in italian (in fact the real song's title is "Spalle al muro") :)

  • I wonder if Janice Dickinson is trying to look like Grace?(here) The resemblance is uncanny.

  • that's why i love her.she's not afraid to wear anything or be anything, she's bad!

  • Oh, my gosh. That face! She's statuesque. Gorgeous. And there were some great moments in her vocal. Fab performance!

  • I didn't see the ending until now! Ha, Boy George ripped her wig right off. You can clearly see that Grace is not taking this performance seriously. xD

  • If Grace Jones was taking this performance seriously, then she would be the Grace Jones I love!

  • She sorta looks like a black janice dickenson with that wig on, except a thousand times more fierce.

  • She performed this a second time for the same festival dressed as a man with moustache and all! I love her doing this song - it's so melodramatic!

  • Ha! That's the song I posted (Live 1991), but I didn't have the video to it. Thanks fro posting it! <3

  • haha that boy george look-a-like gave me a fright.

  • that comment doesnt even make sense. Boy george ? Boy george is fat and white?!

  • I don't understand at ALL - Boy George?? Erm... What's the similarity?

  • The song is about a life in still life. Imagine her as a mannequin (which, incidentally, means "model" in several Romance languages). The guy's not a BG lookalike; he's a clown. San Remo, remember. Also, listen to the original "Slave to the Rhythm" album. Miss Jones is all about l'image... and f*cking with it. It's both serious and a joke. Come on, folks, pull out your humor, whimsy and artsy fartsy-ness. Roll wit it.

  • Bahahaha... I see... the ending... oops. Very sorry and yes, it was, erm... "frightening"? I'll just hold my tail between my legs. : P
