  • Guy has a serious sound !

  • the Lil B of keyboarding

  • sun ra was amazing...

  • The point of music, above anything else, is to evoke emotion, no? Can anyone deny that this solo evokes emotion? If you were to merely hear this without seeing anything, you would feel SOMETHING. this takes you to another place.

  • Thanks for uploading this video. WAY AHEAD of his time. You must believe in Sun Ra. Hoopefully we can all visit him at Saturn.

  • Sounds like "Atlantis"

  • omgashh I think I just pooped out a demon

  • Haters could channel that energy into a clear discernment if they chose to.

  • 86 people are staying here and never going to BE THE COSMOS !!

  • wtf? where am i!?

  • @XxJesseXdrummerxX Jesus, i though i am the only one lost here

  • 86 people have never wanted to do this onstage.

  • wtf? es rarisimo esto O.o pero me gusta jaja

  • People that are speaking negative about this video obviously have no idea about SunRa and are just stuck in a very small box! Also I am positive they have not completed even a footnote worth of music in their lives! This is pure art!

  • @analogrevolutionary Spoken like a true music douche!

  • Haters gonna hate.

  • Huh!?

    What happened?

  • i lol at this

  • lol omg turn the sound off and watch this video, its hilarious at around 0:30

  • @JuLew3105 Haha!

  • Does anyone know where I can get the tabs for this?

  • @progrockcoffee hahaha Love Sun Ra, that is a funny comment!

  • @progrockcoffee from the alter destiny.

  • I need to learn how to play this.

  • Feels like more of circus than music...

  • Dude's just mad because there are more white keys than black keys.

  • @ReichDesWaldes

Dude, late nite i am watching this video and saw your comment... irrespective of music what the guy is playing i cant stop myself laughin ot loud after reading your comment :) !

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • space is the place!

  • You guys are forgetting that tone is an important part of music. It's not just the notes he's hitting its the way they sound, and this whole piece sounds fucking awesome.

  • wtf?

  • ya i remember that one time i was really high on drugs too..

  • 勝てません。

  • al pa da se neb okol svoje osi vrtel ane

  • nice

  • Dude must be trippin'

  • Put on your TAGS: PHONOGENE.

Phonogene is the name of this proto sampler based on tape used in Concrete musique..

    Remember, Phonogene.

  • Simply the best keyboard player & band leader in the universe...

  • Comment removed

  • HOLY SHIT! This is FAR OUT, he's like a black Beethoven and Mozart combined!

  • Beethoven was black...

  • I was about ready to piss my pants from laughing so much when I showed my friend this and I was like "hey listen to this awesome song!" lol.

  • was a recording of this entire performance made??

  • he made a mistake at 1:13. I'm sure the b he played there was unintentional.

  • @exfalsoquodlibet

yep---that should have been a Bb........

  • this is just a noise.

  • Maybe this particular solo was more of a dance discipline than a music discipline. Also, you could call it intentional noise music, which is certainly a discipline as well, which many commenters here don't "believe" in or something. Sun Ra can play all music expertly on the piano when he chooses, such as the entire Fletcher Henderson songbook.

  • Idea is a part of music. The knownothings are the first to scream teh emperor has no clothes but they don't realize it took 2000 years fro jaz &classical music to get here.Read some before you show your ignorance people.Unless u are a musician you just dont know!

  • This was trash worst solo of my life. Its like he's using horrible glissando and portamento techniques combined with smashing the keyboard.

  • In case there's anyone who is actually digging this (I can see from many seem to think this is some kind of put on), if you dig this, check out an album called Atlantis. It's available on the Evidence label. The title track is a 21 minute piece featuring an even crazier organ solo than this one, with full Arkestra accompaniement.

  • ma che è???????

  • true musicians play what they feel, not what they see. the western world developed writing music to "try" to understand what there were hearing.

  • LOL!

  • My kid can place this. I love it when he gets down at 40 seconds. He was rotating like the planet Saturn..LOL. Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a load of Shit!!....Call it by any name. Its not art, its not musical....a 2 year old can do it with no training. Anybody that thinks it is...is a moron. I am a musician. I have been doing it for 20 years pro and i have been playing for 29. It takes training dedication like any other art form. Some are naturally blessed other not but with training like an athlete one can become great. That was neither talent or hard work and dedication. Absolute rubbish!

  • who are you?

  • No one...but thats still rubbish!

  • Thank you speaking some truth! And for the people who talk about how much feeling this has, well frankly I don't know what the hell is wrong with you but in order to receive any feeling from this you must be losing brain cells pretty quickly..

  • @pitachip123 hahahahahahhaah omg stop being such a hater please , just because u dont understand it .....let it breaatheeee ......jeeeeeeeeeeeeez

  • @eltonjam How much training did Robert Johnson have? How many years of study did Muddy Waters put in?

  • this solo has more feeling in it than any of your "musicians," you guys have no clue what music is, go back to your little music classes and learn some more form and bullshit

  • sun ra has a lot of talent. this solo has none. its crap. any1 cud do this.

  • yes, but why didn't you?

  • you say that as if it's worth doing

  • Try a super crazy crhomatic scale with no order our logic and you can make a sun ra solo

  • You might not want to call it music, but it is ART! Space is the place! Those who know, know. Be well.

    Peace,

    \A/

  • space! is the place!

  • Sun ra is possibly the worst musician of man kind and hes just a son of a bitch but i think hes kind of good

  • He can play traditional, ragtime, all type of jazz as well

as the far out.....that's why he is sooo beyond!!!!

  • solo or have PHD's in music or have spent their whole lives learning how very real becoming a professional musician is(not the mainstream shit put out today, real musicianship) is very similar to the amount of work put in to become a doctor or a lawyer. There is no way in hell any true musicians; Mozart, Beethoven, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, whoever the hell you want, would condone this to be called into the realm of real music. It just isn't, and it barely fits into the definition, let alone

  • Man, u just don't know Ra. Open your ears! It's all music!

Sun Ra was reading and playing music at a very early age, and he rehearsed music with is band every single day. He was just bored of all that silly music.

  • could pitachip123 fit the definition of narrow minded? think outside the bos, but 1) u must hav brain 2 think Sun Ra will live on afta all others long and buried . . .

  • Oh, really? Miles played cluster chords on an organ in the '70s. It sounded a bit like this.

  • On the flip side, i haven't seen any keyboard players with a better live stage presence/performance than this. Most keyboardists seem to just sit there, or they put on the fake "im so into it" head-nod thing, because of a keyboard's physical limitations of course.

so, NON-musically speaking, it was the best keyboard performance i have ever seen.

  • actualy i take that back, i forgot about keith emerson

  • rah u lost it sun!

  • this is truly, absolutely outer space! I LOVE SUN RA!

  • Look, I have my own reservations about Sun Ra and his music--he challenged how we viewed music (which is the most important aspect of art). However, this insistant 'your obviously not a musician or composer if you don't like this' is a rather sick generalization. I know a few highly respected composers and musicians who do NOT like Sun Ra. ---music can go in many directions, and the choice not to go in this one is not their loss and shouldn't be treated as such.

    Thank you for reading.

  • i know ill get voted down but i dont think there is any musical talent in this... he isn't actually playing anything melodic. all this guy does is spin around while playing as many notes as he can at one time.

  • i so agree!

  • Yes, but he can also compose like the Duke. Listen to some of his older records; Sun Ra has many sides, all equalling up to one genius.

  • i can play like him

  • so can a three year old. keep up the good work!

  • i liked that, but i can see how it's not for everyone, especially the purists.

  • esto no es un solo, esto es solo caca!!!!!!!!! nada mas que caca!!!!! xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • donde puedo encontrar los tabs????? jajajajaa

  • hahahahahahah el ql endemoniado

    jajaja

  • there is no melody and no signature thats for sure...he's just goin a bit wild, but i like it... it sounds completly bizaarr and cosmic. I really like that keyboard he's playin. Anyone know what it is.

  • It looks like a Yamaha combo organ, possibly the YC-20.

    A.M.

  • WTF

  • from the Sun ra doc "Make a Joyful Noise" I believe---just too cool

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • "I paint pictures of infinity with my music and thats why a lot of people cant understand it."

    -Sun Ra

  • truly cosmic

  • I love this.

  • sounds like sonic youth... beautiful.

  • This guy was a genious. All you who make fun of him are rediculous and ignorant.

  • no talent? he was a child prodigy. he is an extremely talented piano player. why don't you learn about something before you diss it. you obviously have only watched this video and think you know everything about sun ra. and he is the the most far thing from overrated...

  • don't judge. i know people who were child prodigies that are extremely nice. and actually most child prodigies dont think they are better than everyone else, a lot of them sadly end up killing themselves. do your research on sun ra and maybe you'll begin to understand this video.

  • sun ra was so ahead of his time, he is still ahead of us today. that's why no one likes this. it would be like playing rock to people back in the 1700s.

  • wow how can i play like this ??

  • so awesome. truly beautiful, i think everyone can agree.

if you don't like it, you're wrong and should kill yourself

  • Total Garbage!

  • Dude, the man was a genius ahead of his time, ahead of our time. He crafted beauty this planet had never seen before, or since, and if you lack the intellectual capacity to understand that, I don't know how you can enjoy anything, you sad, sad, little man.

  • You must be the posterboy for the dangers of using drugs!

    This is pure shit...

And actually I'm a happy, happy, big man.

  • @plinkman0 In other words, he's got you fooled.

  • Respond to this video... Proof , that some people will like even the most absurd nonsense.

  • @plangentmusic: oh, I dunno. maybe it's just something you don't understand. people are always critical of things they don't understand. There's a reason Bob Moog gave him a Minimoog prototype (Model B) that never even made it to mass production.

Sun Ra is regarded by those in the know as extremely avant-garde and a true musical visionary.

  • @fooloof Nope. I understand it just fine. I play 9 instruments so I probably understand better than you. He's dicking around and making noise. Maybe Moog gave him that model because it was a stinker and in Ra's cause, it wouldn't matter. I'm not sure who you consider "in the know" but most musically knowledgable people consider Sun Ra to be a joke -- which he is.

  • @plangentmusic: has nothing to do with how many instruments you play. I don't care if you could perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony by yourself, you still live in a box. it's all about musical approach, not technical skills. And before spouting off any more comments about something you are completely ignorant of, use the Internet to look the man up.

Ask urself: why would Bob Moog, friends of guys like Keith Emerson, even know a "joke" like Sun Ra?

  • @fooloof I never said anything about technical skills. It's about musicality. And although that is subjective I can't reagard this as music any more than sitting on a piano or farting into a trumpet. Keith Emerson is great and may have even copped some of Sun Ra's theatrics. But he can actually play. If you like SR's performances, that's fine. But the music is shit.

  • @plangentmusic: have you heard anything besides this solo? The dude has been writing full compositions since he was in middle school. the guy can play, write and compose.

  • @fooloof Yes. And I'll give him credit for popularizing the whole electronic "sonic noise" thing that even guys like Herbie dabbled with. But his "norma" compositions tend to be pretty simplistic jams. He's a character. And I think he's honest. But it's still mostly nonsense. Hey, I've played a lot of free form jazz and although it's fun, I think it's 90% nonsense. And sometimes the audiences love t. They're moved by what they THINK they should be moved by. That's the power of music.

  • @plangentmusic: well, if you've at least heard the guy, then you are entitled to your opinion of him. I dunno, he was a professional musician for over 50 years. it's hard to believe he could do that as a "joke."

  • @fooloof Well, he claims to be from Saturn or some other dimension or something, so in the least, he's a "character."

  • @plangentmusic By the way, I'm no fan of ORnette, but I think "Shape of Jazz to Come "is a great album. And as for Sun Ra, I'll give hin credit for "Jazz in Silhoette". That one isn't bad.

  • FREE JAZZ!

  • MOST DEF!

he's so past the decent big band & jazz organ/piano player.

this is a guitar solo only in a organ-piano/jazz free form.

this guy is amazing. pioneer of such creativity.

  • ya it might be good music...if it was music what the fuck is this shit

  • thats exactly the same as what my 2 year old cousin does when you put a keyboard in front of him.

so either my cousin is a musical genius at 2 or this guy is a fuckin bullshit artist bitch.

im goin for the second one.

  • your words illustrate your lack of understanding but that is okay because without you there wouldn't be the other side where there is understanding

  • im not quite sure what you mean, i understand that some music is abstract expression and that doesnt mean it is worse than any other music. but if you listen to this you may realise that this so called "Keyboard Solo" is not GOOD. i have heard alot of decent abstract music and those people actually make music. they dont just mash fingers up and down a keyboard.

  • well, on a technical value, obviously sun ra could never play this note for note the same way again. Youre watching someone get into the music like you never will be able to in your entire existence. Very few earthlings will. Also very few earthlings will create such an original sound and such a massive body of work with such range. Give some other stuff a listen.

  • penis penis you like the penis

    penis thinks ur annoying

and yet you still love the penis

  • he's amazing,

im going to admit i laughed because i find the performance entertaining, but that doesnt mean i dont respect his music, i really like his music.

It's a sort of music that people don't wish to understand because it's different, i find it DEFINATELY better than some band with the drummer playing bass on 1, snare on 3, throughout the whole damn song while the guitarists plays simple chords over and over.

    This is music. Amazing music.

  • i laughed as well, nothing wrong with it, you know yer laughing out of the cosmic jokes he places in your soul

  • hahaha

  • Sun Ra is floating over Saturn right now not giving a fuck about what you think.

  • omg i almost pissed myself when i read this XD thank you for that.

  • omg i almost pissed myself when i read this XD thank you for that.

  • BEST COMMENT EVER

  • I'm pretty sure that people have no business comparing Ronald Jenkees to this stupid mother fucker.

  • whom influenced whom? sun ra or cecil taylor? i could easily imagine cecil taylor doing this kinda stuff, but on an acoustic piano. sun ra certainly was an innovator, in the avant garde jazz realm as well as in the world of keyboard/synthesizor music. here he combines both sensibilities........

  • sun ra owns you dumb youtubers

  • how come no one likes this

  • I don't care! I love it!

  • "ladies and gentlemen... I will now play a little something from my latest albumn, 'seizure on the keyboard'"

  • That's not how you play the keyboard!

  • sure he's fast but shit sucks

  • This is the biggest pile of fucking shit I ever did hear.

  • this shit sucks fuck you

  • Honestly, I can't respect it as music, but I can and do highly respect it in terms of performance and entertainment value.

  • lol @ people dissing Sun Ra

  • There are other worlds they have not told you of. They wish to speak to you. Listen. This is the music.

  • WTF*? ya thats crap from another space

  • what the hell

  • a rotten waste of my time. I'd rather eat cat shit

  • I recognize this song from the last time my cats were fighting on my keyboard.

  • неиссякаемая жизненная сила :)

  • GO SUN RA!

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkk

issu parece mais um dispacho meu

eu duvido ele fazer td dnovo igualsinho xDD

    muito fraco esse cara ai

    conhecimento de musica = 0

  • no! no, no, no, no!

  • that wasnt a wery nice experience

  • hahahahahaha

  • not necessarily supposed to be. each takes their own meaning away.

  • WOW this guy is faster than jordan rudess :P

    joking he fail

  • 1:14 to the end is my favorite. The sound is... it's just what I have been looking for. This is great music. THIS is music. You know what this is?

    This. Is. SOUL.

  • your on crack

  • No. It's just that I have different tastes in music besides just one. I suppose you don't, so why did you come here? Check my page. I'm 15, not a crackhead.

  • The Great Herman Poole Blount!

    Excellent stuff.

  • anyone who says this breaks the rules doesnt understand there are no rules in music, there's just what is accepted because bach or someone did it. expand your minds, this sounds cool :P

  • There are rules in the universe. Therefore, there are rules in everything in the universe, which includes music. You might not know the rules or understand what is meant by the word "rules", but there most certainly are rules.

  • And the best thing about them is that they can be broken.

  • sounds like pain
