Strangely, the One Free Bullet Achievement was quite easy

If you missed the Pacifist Achievement, just go back to a saved game at the start of the core chamber and finish it without killing those 2 Stalkers.

The only weapons you are allowed to use for the Free Bullet Achievement are, crowbar, gravity gun, grenades and rockets. But you can pick up anything with your gravity gun and you that as a weapon. My favorite is the Wall Radiator=P

You can use Energy balls, as they are used with the gravity gun. I got this achievement and I used energy balls all the time.

The other gotcha with the one free bullet is that when you grab the gun, and it autoswitches to the gun: DON'T FIRE. I've picked up the shotgun, kept going on autopilot and tried to pick up more stuff with the grav gun, and discharged both barrels instead on more than one occasion at that point (including the time I was going for that achievement), and I know I'm not the only one too.

the grenade launcher doesn't count. i got stuck by a barnacle yesterday (before i had the crowbar) the freaked out and killed it with the grenade launcher and i still got the achievment at the end of the game

@movement2contact Nah man, I got the One Free Bullet and I used practically everything that didn't fire bullets. You can use Gravity Gun, Crowbar, Mines, Barrels, Grenades, Rocket Launcher, hell you can even use the secondary fire of the SMG and Pulse Rifle, just as long as there's no "bullets" fired aside from that one lock. That said, I feel your pain for the stalker achievement... argh

i got this achieve today (free bullet) on my first run thru. was easy. and i think i actually got 2 shots total. 1 for the lock and 1 for a mistake i made unlocking that door for alyx I got eaten by a barnacle and no cro-bar so i used my shotgun and still got the achieve.

It says in the audio commentary that they wanted to make sure that the player found the gun. So you can only open the door by shooting it.

Remember guys, you actually can shoot back the energy balls if caught with your GravGun. I just got the One Free Bullet and I did shoot them back. Just don't ever use any type of gun except for the necessary rocket launcher. Do that and you should be fine.

@ntwiles - I wondered that same thing. There's also a part where you're descending the elevator where you have to shoot an energy ball into the portal thing to get it to start moving again. You have to do this on two occasions during your descent, and during one of them, a stalker behind some glass keeps reactivating the portal whenever you shoot a ball in it. How are you supposed to get past this without killing it?

make sure before you climb up the ladder in the core that you didn't kill any stalkers on accident, i ran through it once and didn't get the achievement because an energy ball went bouncing around and killed a stalker when i wasn't paying attention

Did you miss any energy balls fueled generators when you tried to activate the paths in the reactor? Sometimes when you miss the shot, the energy ball bounces around the room and kills a stalker.

I just completed this achievement without cheating. It really isn't that hard on most parts. Alyx kills most of the bad guys you encounter, with practically unlimited health. Explosive barrels, throwable projectiles, grenades, and the rocket launcher are your best friends. Also master catching grenades and throwing them back.
