Hi there, I am putting together a slide show for my father with all his pictures of when he was in the Air Force. He was a flight engineer on the C130 from 1966 to 1974 active duty, then reserve till 1983, is there any place i can find just the music Four Fans of Freedom
Thank you so much. Your video embodies much of what I remember him telling me about the "life and times" of the C-130 community. My favorite story was when his crew had delivered some special ops guys into ******** and he and his buddy sat on the open cargo bay door (tethered, of course) and let their legs dangle over the edge as they flew through the night sky.
Hello there! My son was a C-130 crew chief for 8 years and saw action in a number of places including the middle east. He passed away recently (non-military accident) and I'd like your permission to use portions of this wonderful video at his memorial service. That you for your kind consideration of this request. Will S.
Great video! I was a nav with the 50th from 86 to 89, its awesome to see a video of the new generation of warriors carrying on the tradition. Once a Red Devil, always a Red Devil!
After 22 yrs. in the back of this outstanding arcft. I had the most enjoyful time in the USAF career. I was with the 345TAS, 773TAS, 40TAS, 14MAS, 8Aps, 3Aps and the 5MAPS. I've been retired 21yrs. and I still miss the O: Dark 30 bag drags, but mostly my fellow flyers. However time moves on, we still have our memories!
Excellent song and Vid man. I had two rides in a C-130, from Carswell AFB to NAS NOLA and back. I was off to join the navy reserve P-3 Squadron there after my Reg Navy tour. So there i sat in my Flight suit when the loadmaster came around handing out little packs of yellow lumps. This is 1977 mind you. I think "Oh, gum so my ears don't pop" and stuck one in my mouth. Surprise, Surprise, it was wax empregnated cotton to stick in the ears. Nobody noticed. It is a noisy bird after all. :-)
I live under the NE approach to the base and I must say that I never tire of hearing those " Four Fans of Freedom" coming over in the evening, or any time of the day.
Herkload, do you know which John Spillane he is on Facebook? The one that looks the most like him gives Colorado as his home. I sent him a query anyway. Thank you.
OMG, I served with Mickey Spillane at The Rock in 1986! Does anyone know how I can get his e-mail address or phone number? I don't have access to any DoD base locater and Google search yielded nothing.
/watch?v=VH-KDGRwwck - Russian documentary about NATO transport aviation with English subs. Including C-130 Hercules, C-17 Globemaster III, C-141 Starlifter, C-5 Galaxy, C-160 Transall.
Excellent tune about one of my favorite Aircraft, what a distinguished Record of Service she has! Thanks for the post, this old USAF Vet sends her Salute =\*/=
The C-130 is an amazing piece of American engineering and design. I landed in places in Somalia (as a journalist) where I'd rather not land my single engine Cessna... C-130, one very tough and cool bird for sure and the air-crews are remarkable.
you wanna be a herk pilot? go USAF. And go to a state school and do ROTC. Enjoy booze and chicks on your way to the best job in the world...believe me. I may know a thing or two about said subject.
The American said, 'The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it.' 'Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France !' The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained. 'Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in '44 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to.' > > You could have heard a pin drop
@herkload1980 I think Dustin was one of the people who made this??? Not sure if he had any part of this, but he's my cousin and the person that made this comment was actually my dad that was using my account. I don't think he knew that he was on my account though, and I just stumbled upon it... kind of funny how Google brings up all these things. LoL.
Well well well, Deeewaynes kid. Your dad is one of my heroes. He made going through Afghanistan and Iraq a lot better. Please tell him that Mickey said hello and that we hope that life is treating him well in retirement.
Oh yes, You must be "boy". He was quite a legend in the unit. Best joker the 50th every had. All though you sending the trash bag in the mail was pretty good. Tell him Goose says "hello".
This is the most awesome Herk vid I've ever seen! This song shouldn't be languishing on YouTube...it needs to be playing on the radio. You've got a number one hit here! Right up there with the good ol' herk herself! Spent 8 years as a loadmaster on E-models in 61st AS, 50th AS, 62 AS, 16th TATS, 115th AS, then lost my flying physical and that was that. This vid brings back memories of the best time of my life. Let's see and hear more. Go Herks!
Awesome!! I love the song... Where can I get a copy? My hubby was a C-130 Loadmaster for 22+ years. Now whenever a Herk flies over the house even the kids say "that's the sound of freedom"...
Brings back lots of memories from my 5000 hours in the Herk with the 21 TAS, 345 TAS, & 374 TAW. I remember when the 50 TAS came to CCK AB Taiwan in the early 70's for a rotation. Jim Dwyer Dot com
Thanks, i'd really appreciate it. I tried recoring it, but it is mixed with the sounds from the vido so it doesn't go so well. Great song about a great bird
Loved the c-130. Saw a lot of great people come and gamy afsc was aircrew. However, got tired of writing epr's, opr's and additional duties and no good tdy's. Got out b/c I wanted to keep my civilian job and got tired of missing out on promotions and threats of loosing my job.I do miss the flying. It was better than being a bus driver...Now I fly myself to St. Croix. Hats off to all aircrew. What go's tdy stays tdy...LOL.....
This song/video, "Four Fans of Freedom" -> gives me a huge "Firm Funstick". Alliteration Foxtrot. Rock on @herkload1980
