I respectfully disagree about a million percent. Cliff was the soul of the band. his death started their decline, the black album was when rigor mortis set in. all downhill since then, save for just a few decent songs out of dozens released since.
I do agree that RtL and MoP are their best (with Kill Em All) by a mile. its no coincidence Cliff played on those.
@isaaclubow You trying to tour for almost 29 years. The drugs, alcohol, countless shows damaged his vocal chords drastically. He ruined them when he did the tour 92-93 that had like 100 shows in a row. Respect him dude, he has made great music, yeah he can't sing well now but just be happy he is alive.

Dave is a great drummer, that track is tight as shit...had the wanking Dane been playing he'd be playing out of time, tossing in random wanking rolls where none ever existed before nor were needed and being akin to a drummer playing these songs for the 3rd time. @sicRebel333 I think that Dave sounds great here. What kills the song for me (I underline, stress and repeat "for me") is Hetfield's voice. Dave is an amazing drummer that could pull off everything, with a great balance between technique and power, in my opinion, though music is always going to be subjective. James interpretation here is definitely below his standards.

I've only played a year and a half and i can play raining blood + Black magic easy, haven't bothered to learn any others atm. Tremolo picking gets easy once you practice.

Lets face it Slayer and Metallica are two completely different bands and each are good in there own way.

@renshammar, slayer's drummer is fast, thats truee he uses double bass alot has alot of endurance. lars doesnt have all that, but he has come up with drum fills that sastisfy his fans' ears.

@naplame it still sounds like the same slayer since reign in blood (Show no Mercy had a completly different sound then the rest, not a bad thing) but they are ALWAYS singing about the same subjects just in different wording. Death, dying, cereal killers, the devil, hell, death, killing HELL AND DEATH ect. I actually listen to Slayer every day, that doesn't mean i'm not allowed to say their new album sounds Generic...

it does not fit with metallica, it is not the way of their playing. Dave is maybe better technical player, but Lars play with more soul, sensitive, feelings. It is shame for people who is mixing live met audio, there you can not hear DB.

i know slayer could play a metalicas songs perfect. even better than metalica could play their own songs. but metalica would never stand a chance trying to do slayer with out messing it up. and the solos the fast switch offs back and forth to leads.

Mustaine is better than Kirk, but Kirk was better for Metallica for many reasons.

whats the point of kicking Lars out, he is one of the founding members, he OWNS the Metallica name. Metallica is Lars' first and last band and there is no way he will be kicked out. Metallica are going great ATM Lars is worrying if his skills are dying, he wasnt supposed to be a drummer, he was supposed to be a tennis player, he formed Metallica while starting to learn drums, he had a passion for the music long before he played drums. There are some things you cant change.

Dave is a great drummer, that track is tight as shit...had the wanking Dane been playing he'd be playing out of time, tossing in random wanking rolls where none ever existed before nor were needed and being akin to a drummer playing these songs for the 3rd time. I used to love Lars, but he has been pissing me off for nearly 20 years. Death Magnetic showed signs, but I'm not sold that Lars gives a shit about great drumming anymore.

now as much as i love Dave, the Kill 'Em All album should be strictly played only by Metallica members because it is a legendary album and their first. but when Dave was playin Battery that was ok. Dave made Battery come back to life, but this is Lars's song

@sicRebel333 I think that Dave sounds great here. What kills the song for me (I underline, stress and repeat "for me") is Hetfield's voice. Dave is an amazing drummer that could pull off everything, with a great balance between technique and power, in my opinion, though music is always going to be subjective. James interpretation here is definitely below his standards.

@crawlingchaos76 Lol, do you even know how to play an instrument? Jame Hetfield is one of the best rythem guitarist in the world, his down picking is insanely fast (can't say the same for Kirk). Slayer stuff can be learned quite easy (unless your the drummer)
I've only played a year and a half and i can play raining blood + Black magic easy, haven't bothered to learn any others atm. Tremolo picking gets easy once you practice.

@crawlingchaos76 To be fair they replaced Cliff because they had no choice. After Cliff the bass-player was just some one who plays along and is so much easier to replace. And Lars is a pretty good drummer, but will not be rememberred as the worlds best. Replacing James and Kirk would be much more difficult. Lets face it Slayer and Metallica are two completely different bands and each are good in there own way.

@oldschool57483 clif i give you, but the others left because it was killing them to play the same boring ass songs over and over. dave got kicked from slayer for a short while cause he wasnt doing his job right cause he was trying a new technique out during live shows and it sounded less than perfect. they worked it out and did he want back in slayer fuc* yeah he did. name all the songs that are not hard. its funny cause you could do the same with metalica. who cant play enter sandman? lol
