Here is something you Confederates never admit. In Jan of 1863 - Davis issued a decree that RE enslaved every freed slave. Over half million freed blacks were immediately slaves again.
Davis also decreed that when they won the Civil War, all the freed blacks in the North would also be enslaved.
Thats what Davis said in his official response to the Emancipation Proclamation.

If mr. Davis and the South won the war, the United States and the Copnfederate States would have been two entirely different countries. So Mr. Davis could not have done that. Those black men who fought were not fighting exactly for either side, but to show those people that they deserved respect and were worthy of honor. Motivations varied by individual.
Black Confederates were not official soldiers and there were no black units until March 1865, but when they did serve, their contributions are no less important.

Here is something you Confederates never admit. In Jan of 1863 - Davis issued a decree that RE enslaved every freed slave. Over half million freed blacks were immediately slaves again.
Davis also decreed that when they won the Civil War, all the freed blacks in the North would also be enslaved.
Thats what Davis said in his official response to the Emancipation Proclamation.
Just on of the many facts you Confederates run from like Davis ran in his dress from Union Troops.

He then gave speeches implying he wold "exterminate" the slaves if he had to free them.
Other Southern leaders said proudly they would kill the slaves rather than free them, as well.

I respect the rights of confederates to honor their flag and their traditions I just think that slavery should be put into perspective and acknowledged and that the horrors that they lived through acknowledged. Its very important to emphasize that Lincoln wanted the North and the South to reconcile and even the sons of the veterans of union wars passed a resolution in 2000 saying that they would support the display of the confederate flag. I think that reconciliation is the best policy

Almost from the start of the war, black Southerners went to petition for the Confederate Congress or their individual State governments to allow them to fight. When they couldn't become official soldiers they decided to volunteer to become body servants and whatever jobs they could get. Many of them were musicians who joined up, especially drummer boys.
Now then these men didn't just sit around when the fight was going on, they joined in.

Actually, the exact number of African Americans who fought for the North was 178, 975...but you were close.
Black Confederates, at best, probably came to about 20,000 over a period of four years if you count about 10 per regiment in all three Confederate armies.
Those black men who fought were not fighting exactly for either side, but to show those people that they deserved respect and were worthy of honor. Motivations varied by individual.
