  • Have been a Moody Blues fan since the late 60's and this is by far one of their best songs. Of course back then I was more impressed with "Nights in White Satin".

  • Have been a Moody Blues fan since the late 60's and this is by far one of their best songs.

  • this song is acully another version of greensleeves which was made in the late 14 hundreds

  • Of course Justin does this amazingly...He is a fabulous tenor and will tell you his very beginnings of singing was in church! Beautiful rendition of one of my favorite Christmas songs...wish he would do O"holy Night!

  • @lightlyone This is a legitimate charity recording that has been reissued on many different CDs, and it really is the Moody Blues.

  • @lightlyone Since the Every Good Boy Deserves Favor tour, I've attented close to 40 Moodies shows, trust me, this is The Moody Blues.

  • @lightlyone

Maybe it's just me, but it does sound like the later Moody Blues.

  • @lightlyone Hi, this is definitely Justin, I've seen them over 400 times over the last 10 years... however I know what you mean, when the guys record with different producers they sound a bit different. On some of the things Justin has done with other artists (Mario Frangoulis and Alan Simon) his voice is more showcased than with Moodies stuff and he sounds even more amazing than usual!

  • @lightlyone THATS HIS VOICE!

  • i have to sing this song hehe x

  • doesnt greensleeves have this same tune?

  • INCREDIBLE VERSION OF ONE OF THE BEST SONGS NOT JUST CHRISTMAS SONGS OF ALL TIME!!

  • beautiful why was it never released maybe they can do it now

  • This WAS released on a bunch of charity CDs containing songs by different artists. I just posted a link to my website in the video comments - you can click on the link and go to a page that has detailed scans of the different CDs. Maybe you can one of them online sometime!

  • I cannot wait for Christmas!

  • @MatthewJWWilliams

    me neither

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (August 15, Mary, Mother of Our Lord), we sang this as the Hymn of the Day. It is #296 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. Sort of odd to be singing this in hot August.

  • Beautiful. Just Beautiful

  • buteful song

  • hehe.. i was right.. "what child is this" is played to the greensleeves tune...

  • I like this song, even Xmas have gone, i hear it all days!

  • Heh heh he...I gots the original charity CD....THIS SONG was the reason I bought it in the first place.

  • I recently found out the musical composition was written by no other than King Henry VIII of England. In the 16th century. Whoever put the words to it completed a very lovely song. Back then and today it was titled Greensleeves.

  • VERY CUTE !

  • Heard this years ago in a card store, of all places. Tried to get it ever since, now I have it! Thanks.

  • @char675

    NO

  • Only Justin's voice could do justice to this, shame it wasn't on December though.

  • It is a shame. It is a beautiful tune which very much deserved to be on the December album.

  • merry christmas!

  • and Happy New Year! 4 all!

  • I love that MB did this song. I found the cd in a bargain bin at a gas station & picked it up years ago for it. Always love listening to it this time of year. Thanks Taran, keep up the wonderful work of love you for the band. I and many others appreciate it. Merry Christmas to you & yours. :)

    Lisbeth

  • I remember finding this on cassette tape in Payless many years ago and bought it just because of this cover of the song by the Moody Blues. I had long thought the Moody Blues could do a very good christmas album. Of course they did do a christmas one called December earlier this decade. It's a good one I think they could have made a better one but all in all it was a good first and perhaps only chrismas album to ever come from the Moody Blues.

  • @RS1963 Personally, I thought the December album was a masterpiece. One of the main reasons I look forward to Xmas now is so I can play that album again!

  • @london2z Or maybe I should say masterpeace.

  • Wow beautiful!

  • Wow - this is great. MB was a fav of mine.

    Jim

  • Wonderful version, by the Magnificent Moodies..

  • BEAUTIFUL!! Happy Birthday Jesus!

  • Wow. Thanks. Never knew this existed!

  • Not bad but I prefer a more traditional way of it being sung

  • Beautiful. Justin's voice is perfect.

  • This is a beautiful rendition - the singer enunciates the words so well. Usually the words are are barely recognizable. Very, very nice. Merry Christmas and God bless the person who put this up.

  • Wonderful! God Bless..

  • I'm dancing to this song!!!! YAY!

  • Beautiful rendition of a classic. I also never realized the Moody Blues have ever done any Christmas music. Thank you for posting. Merry Christmas and God bless.

  • Beautiful job! masterpiece

  • Great song about het Lord Jesus Ma'am, shame that it was not released on het Moody's Blue's album.. 5 stars

  • Hey! this is an old renaissance folk song with christian modified lyrics! ITS Greensleeves. I post part the lyrics for the ones who want to listen to the original:

Alas, my love, you do me wrong,

    To cast me off discourteously.

For I have loved you well and long,

    Delighting in your company.

    Greensleeves was all my joy

    Greensleeves was my delight,

Greensleeves was my heart of gold,

And who but my lady greensleeves.

  • Really?

    ....

  • Richtig erkannt. Allerdings hat mir dieses Lied von den Moody Blues gefehlt; deshalb freu ich mich über die Einstellung. Danke.

  • Extraordinary. Truly the Moodies at their best.

  • most beautiful version of this song....why oh why don't they do an album of "traditional" christmas songs?

  • Yeah, man All the big guns did gospel wny not apply these, the best of the best to that task? and then...add a little modernity with an interpretation at the end of each.l

  • Thanks for this song. It reminds me about how important it is to grow our kids will. I think Andreas Stein has the best advice here. Find it in in his book: "Grow your kids intelligent and rich".

    Donnette

  • I'm sorta fond of you too Scarlett...(be still my heart, thump thump thump).... :D Yes this song is beautiful but anything by the fabulous Moody Blues works on me. Saw them in concert in Phoenix,Arizona-1987. It was awesome, unforgettable.

Peace my sweet Soul Sister, cara mia,

    Michael

  • Thank you berrygirl1964 for sharing this with me!!! How beautiful this is!!!

  • Beautiful Deborah...I am the one honored with your sweet thoughtfulness. God loves ya lady, but I'm trying to cut in line ahead of Him...

    :D

    Holiday Bear Hugs,

    Michael

  • love it....

  • Absolutely fabulous, sends tingles down my spine

  • What child is this is based upon the 15th century composition, greensleeves by an unknown medieval musician.

  • 16th century, actually. LATE 16th century. And, contrary to popular belief, "Greensleeves" was not written by King Henry VIII.

  • correct ot

  • Does anyone know if they are Anglicans? Religious life in the UK seems different than it is here in the US - not quite so heavy on the evangelical style of Christianity as the US is saturated with.

  • I have followed the Moody Blues since their beginning and have stood for hours awaiting seats to their concerts. I had never been aware of their wonderful Christmas Music Thank you so much for your time to post this and Long live the Moody Blues!

  • Great cover :)

  • Awesome!

  • Justin mentioned some years ago, he is dedicated to Christ in his heart, listen, really listen to his songs throughout his career-you can hear his hear sing and Christ is in their. Just believe as Jesus said. ok berrygirl ? Justin's Genius calls me to lean the way to listen, has been for years. bye betty

  • i did'nt know that about his devotion to Christ..if true , its great, but certainly at the very least their music over the past 4 decades can be at least considered spiritual and God oriented without being pushy or preachy...i have a problem with the what i consider occult Harry Potter vids being matched up w/ Moody's music

  • No debate. Just a fact, Moodies are obviously Christians.

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful version of "What Child is This?". Long live the Moody Blues and their music!!

  • Beautiful indeed really,but can't beat Garth Brook's..

  • This was the song Playing in the background of The Dark Tower VII as Susannah meets Eddie and Jake (and soon Oy) after leaving End-World.

  • OMG I can only hear greensleeves >.<

  • theyre the same song.

  • i sang this song for my x-mas choir concert. We got breathe once every 8 measures. Im glad i dont have to sing it no more, still love the song though

  • ty inwooddliver...i stand corrected yes i loved it

  • i think

  • Wonderful!!! The second best interpretation after Julie Andrews!!!

  • Best of all..the Moody's are not afraid to sing of Christmas,Jesus and Mary. And they sing it so well...

  • "Not afraid"? Gimme a break. Christians have been the violent, oppressive majority in Europe for over a thousand years.

The problem is not one of Christians being "afraid" of expressing themselves, but of Christians learning the difference between expressing love of their religion in positive & mutually respectful ways, or simply bludgeoning minorities with their views.

  • Longtime fans of the Moody Blues know that they had a lot of problems with fans in the late 60's and early 70's who thought they were messiahs or visionaries conveying great religious and philosophical knowledge. People tried to worship the band directly, which the members tried to avoid. This kept them from expressing any religious views in music for many years.

  • Very true - shows just how much music influences people. Sad Seth1 doesnt have a clue on this & chose this area to act out his own aggressions and go off topic. Really nice to have this uploaded! this is ONE song i do not have in my Moody Blues collection. THX TARANBERK! <3

  • but did you enjoy the song?

  • I figured someone would come back with a remark like that. Christians have MANY mistakes. John Paul2 is only religious leader I know who has apologized for those wrongs. Where are same acts from 9-11-01 "minorities" leaders? Who is burning Europe(France) now? Not Christians. Check your facts.

  • Beautiful. :-)

  • What an exceptional treat! Thank you for your

    beautiful work.

  • Absolutely beautiful!!

  • A beautiful song played by a great group. I am fortunate enough to have this CD.

  • Just beautiful!!! Where can you find this CD?

  • albumn called winter

  • December

  • Beautiful!

  • Excellent work!

  • A little background trivia for longtime fans: Ken Barnhart and I were shopping in a mall in San Diego and discovered this charity CD when it was first released. Ken called it in to Higher & Higher and it made the news update in time for Christmas!

  • This song shows wonderful range of harmony that can only come from these guys! Well done Tarenberk!

  • I love Christmas songs, full stop. When they're sung by someone who could sing a pizza takeaway menu, I can't fault it.
