An aside that I thought was interesting: The NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCE believes that global warming is real and that nations should take action. @trakkaton IT is the other way round. DDT is cheap, efficient and does not generate profits. There is only one plant in the world that produces it as a social service ( non profit). The DDT substitutes such as Ficam - are not very efficient ( which means frequent, regular spraying, problem not resolved = generating profit), they cost 6 times more than DDT. Therefore the chemical companies do not want DDT back. DDT= not one single death. DDT substitutes have killed animals and people.

There is no global ban on DDT. One of the reasons it was banned in the U.S. was because eagles and falcons were on the verge of extinction and DDT was seen as being the major cause and malaria not being a pressing health issue in the U.S. Actually, the Sierra Club and the Environmental Defense fund are not for the ban of ddt in Africa, but to go spraying it indiscriminately would be stupid. Beck is just trying to get in a few digs against straw man arguments.
