i keep my seat the same height all the time, nice and low, if i gotta go uphill, i stand, alot easier in my opinion. i never change it because theres always 2 sides to a hill, the side u go up n the side u go down, "Oh hold on guys, theres a hill, give me 2 mins and a spanner im jst gonna adjust my seat"..lol get the fuck outta here.. with a setup like that id probably walk up that hill, god forbid id hit a bump and cop a bike seat inbetween the nuts.
you have to compensate for sag on suspension bike for correct seat height this means that when the suspension is not weighted it will seem like the seat is higher than it normally would be but when you sit down sag changes. is it ok to mount a mtb by standing on one pedal to climb on the bike rather raising youre leg over without standing on one the pedal. the best technique when stopped is to stand over the top tube rather than one foot slightly resting on the ground.
very few competitions have both very difficult uphills and very technical downhills + jumps...
if you're going downhill and/or jumping, lower your seat...
if you're going to do XC you're probably not going to do huge jumps and super technical downhill, so a high seat is fine.
IMO, if you're going to do climbs at all you better use a higher seat - I developed knee problems from using a too low seat in climbs, and I'm hoping they'd subside now.
that is the height for pedal efficiency but not for fast technical terrain. I am thinking of trying a recumbent as the cyling position just seems uncomfortable period. I feel i am stretching out to far and is uncomfotable. LArge gt avalnche hardtail. 6ft rider. I could use a shorter stem but don't xc riders need these super long stems. should u not use extra long stems if its not comfy. do these xc riders put up with long stems just for xc even if they are um comfy or must it be comfy
I've found to get a low enough top tube/standover, the cockpit/top tube length is really too short and cramped. So I think people put a really long stem on there, to not feel so cramped in the cockpit. Seems frame designers are not designing for overall fit anymore, they're only designing for top tube fit, and who cares if the top tube hits all of us in the crotch cause the standover is too high on a frame where the top tube length is long enough? LOL
dus he like things wedged in his arse, i always have it as low as i can, more comfortable and it looks beta lol, i no tht isnt gunna change ow gd i am but o well lol

@aphididae I have that same problem, my knees ached if I had it low. I can keep a more consistent stride with the seat high.

ok, except leg extension is only one aspect. What about the relationship of the saddle height to the handlebars position?
MsBixy 2 years ago
@MsBixy I agree, I'm trying to adjust my seat and it seems I'm putting extra weight on my arms,....
royalconcrete1 11 months ago
What about when racing? you cant keep stopping to adjust the saddle, well, not if you're FTW...

If I saw some jackass in a race pull over to drop his seat I would mercilessly ridicule him/her for being a giagantic PUSSY. lol

Memphis35 2 years ago
I dont...

I developed patella tracking problems from always riding with a low seat. Be careful!

You must not be pedaling up hills much....

Don't forget the ice for your nuts if you ride with the seat that high.

Seat height like that would get you killed in technical terrain
vmajor 4 years ago 32
I keep my seat as low as possible, just to be in control on rock gardens, drop offs, and jumps.
Yeah, I almost died while riding with a high seat like that...
PyTyDERT 3 years ago 2
@vmajor depends on how technical, its where I ride and do just fine.
