  • He was 22 at the time that's crazy

  • 14 people officially have nothing between their ears (or something crammed in them)

  • legend

  • idc what anyone says Duane Allman is the most underrated guitarist of all time he's second on my list behind the GREAT ONE Jimi

  • @runingan Totally agree

  • So great to see that folks are still discovering and being inspired by him! No better tribute! The guitar he used to record Layla is in Macon GA @ The Big House Museum. Folks go by there and kneel in overwhelmed awesomeness....

  • Come on ...anyone with musical chops from the late 60's and early 70's know of Duane Allman. and how fantastic he was..died way too early

  • @rongo51 Amen. Duane Allman did incredible things with the guitar, he is a legend. Guitar definition: musical instrument that people tried to play more or less till Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix started playing

  • duane's name should've been skyGOD not skydog

  • #1duane allman #2hendrix #3stevie ray vaugan #4derek trucks #5 me

  • shine on you crazy diamond...... same song

  • @Hereinmyhead102 absolutly not

  • damn tight

  • PenquinsOverPeople

This is a special message for you. When Jimi Hendrix had died i was lost quitar wise for someone who compared or should i say made me feel good. Then i heard Duane Allman and was so very happy to hear another quitarist that made me smile. Rock on Duane and Jimi!

  • Im 21 and just met him here with this song ! dahm love it

  • 13 people don't feel the music.

  • I was a huge hendrix fan, and i never heard Duane Allman before. Fuck me, this guy is my new god o,o how the hell is it possible that i never heard him before omg..

  • @PenguinsOverPeople - Penguin,I'm with you.I was in college and I remember where I was when I was told Duane died. The man could play his ass off, especially with the ABB. Duane is great but don't cut Hendrix short.Hendrix is special in his way.Check out Allman Brothers-Live at Fillmore.

  • @PenguinsOverPeople Maybe because he died so young.

  • @PenguinsOverPeople Same Thing Happened To Me about 6 months ago, when I found the brother Duane :D

  • indeed, he's a guitarist that hasn't gotten as much attention as Jimi. Even though Rolling Stone Mag ranks him as nr 2 after Hendrix in "100 greatest guitarists of all time". And damn where they right!

  • @PenguinsOverPeople cause he was sidekick in allman . Only if you know the Band Setup you would know it . But who cares :D just enjoy the sound !

  • @PenguinsOverPeople This was one of the GREATEST songs ever recorded in the 70's.........just glad to know this music is still reaching people like yourself that know Fantastic artists when they hear one, no matter WHAT the age.....keep ENJOYING the Allman Brothers and all of their "art"

  • @PenguinsOverPeople I'm thinking Danny Gatton is out of the question with you..

  • sss Que cabron, pinche rola con madre.

  • simply the most awesome blues guitarist of our generation

  • simplesmente incrível!!!!!!!!!!

  • this guy heard notes in his head that nobody knew where they came from but duane would say things like listen you hear it then he would go on and play it all and stunn them all ,delaney and bonnie said that in a interview

  • simply amazing

  • conheço essa gravação desde os anos 70...é algo de ouvir de joelhos e chorando.....essa guitarra é de Deus!

  • I agree with you there is no reason to compare artist in these threads. Just enjoy that people are sharing this stuff.

As for dislikes I ignore them and figure there is more to the story of why the person decided to share a dislike with everyone. I hit like or I ignore the video. Hitting dislike serves no purpose here and in my opinion makes the person look small minded and foolish.

  • This is the first time I've ever heard Duane Allman and.......OH MY GOD HE IS AMAZING!!!!

  • @chitsisgreat

You need to check out The Allman Brother's Band. The current line-up is amazing too.

  • can some of you tell me a bit more about this man? this is a very good music and i want to know more about this guy

  • I don't even have to smoke headies to enjoy this shit.

  • This is one of the best songs i have ever heard, had this album just for this song 3 or 4 times an wore them out now cant find a one nowhere.

  • @jdg3273

Search Amazon for Duane Allman An Anthology Vol 1

  • Bah-da-da-dah-ba-da-da-dot, fuck all ya'll!

  • my vinyl skips at 00:13 every time :(

  • Wonderful solo! Nothing less. But how can anyone force themselves to click 'dislike'' on this video?

  • Primo!

  • Haven't read the list, but if it doesn't include Roy Buchanan . . .its not the proper list.

    All great guitarists, sorely missed.

    Out. Peace.

  • If you dislike this,

    you dislike Duane Allman,

if dislike Duane Allman, you dislike music,

    if you dislike music,

    you dislike life,

    if you dislike life,

    you dislike the universe.

  • @ryoanji1995 so if you dislike universe, you dislike santa and his elfes?

  • now matter how hard i try, i just can't think of a single reason why 13 people would dislike this.

  • @RubberbandGirl88 > because they dont understand music and what is good music.

I love listening to this tune..................over and over................

  • Hey, that kid's good! We should give him a longass solo in this tune, huh? Waddya say?

  • fucking awssome

  • What can you say???? Dam i miss Duane Allman

  • Great stuff!!!!

  • @zepher1494 or: you're the jackass that has to get pissed about an idiot who wants to compare his heroes with the public. it's not like everyone is as smart as you, getting internet is fairly easy nowadays. now enjoy a peach, bitch.

  • Jimmy Hendrix was eclectic at the time and created a dynamic sound. Duane was just as talented but played different that's all. Duane was into jazz, that's all the ABB listened to for years during Duane's tenure with the band. They didn't listen to rock when they were home in Macon. Miles Davis is what they listened to at the big house the album "Kind of Blue" and the song "all blues" was Duane's favorite song. He heard something in jazz that nobody heard and tried to mix it in with the ABB

  • Just love the treasure trove of music, live and recorded of this amazing guitarist and artist. I was fortunate to see him several times live, and would give my right arm to have the opportunity again. My mouth would drop and not open for the 3-4 hours they played. Just think about him playing with all of artists in heaven, and I just can't wait to be in the audience.

  • 2Nnd BEST GUITARIST OF ALL THE TIMES .

  • @younespunk ummm who would be #1???? If you compare by Genre Duane is all by himself at #1!!!!! think about it, who can play the slide as well??? maybe sum of the old colored blues players, but they also didn't have the lead guitar capabilities that Duane Damn sure had and exhibited beautifully!!!! I used to think Jimi Hendrix was better. not so. he is better at jimi hendrix style, but Duane is better at Duane's style and that's all that matters!!

  • @MrGeltabs #1 hendrix #2 Allman #3 BB king

  • Isn't lady gaga the return of marilyn mansion... never see them together!

  • @gmxkey just fucking stop!!!! Please, just fucking stop bringing that stupid whore up. What the fucks wrong with you????? When you typed in Duane Allman was there any suggestions of that dumb bitch???? No and don't bring that douche bag teenager up either. I swear I'm going fucking slap some1 through my computer!!!

  • The souulll ... Yumm.

  • "Remember Duane Allman"

  • amazing...hope its nice in heaven

  • also to these singular points of view on guitarists there is no best music is a matter of opinion its about moving you if your looking for a rating its never gonna happen.

  • The dislike bar is like lady gaga's penis - it's small and shouldn't be there

  • anyone who hits dislike on this tune is an idiot, It's a shame how true talent can't even be recognized by people anymore, I guess it's up to people who really appreciate music and musicians to keep this music alive and well...rip duane...

  • The intro solo is great as well! So much soul in his playing.

  • one of the best...

  • sooo much soul!!

  • How could anyone actually click "dislike?" Some people on youttube are just complete dumb asses

  • Hey when did he die?

  • @teddyt18 ask uncle google

  • @teddyt18 1971, aged 24.

  • @teddyt18 October, 29th 1971

  • my last name should have been Allman not Allmon lol

    RIP Duane Allman

  • yes.....this is it......one of the guitarist that I look up to when i was learning how to play soslo guitar.....awezum!!!!!

  • They are all great guitarist , and no one can take that away from them !!!!!! They all have their own styles' and if you no that ! you wouldn't compare ! It's ok to have a favorite guitarist ! but don't compare !!! Peace and Love !!!!

  • Duane lived fast and loose, and it's not surprising that he died so young and tragically. But the way he lived was also the way he played - always pushing the envelope. Listen to "Stand Back" on the "Peach" album - one of the last that Duane recorded - and you can hear that they were still experimenting, still exploring. The song has a different sound than anything they had done to date. But no sense comparing who was "better." In the end, it comes down to a matter of personal preference.

  • WE LOVE YOU DUANE AND YOU STILL LIVE ON IN OUR HEARTS

  • i don't know you guys, probably there are better guitar players than Duane. But this song is the best blues song in the fucking history.

  • No onr could twin like Duane and Dickie Betts~!!!!!

  • it's the first time i'm listening to allman and i'm excited! what a smooth touch!

  • jordan get the f off youtube!!!

  • @DylanGuitar148 haha ya i know i was just messin around srry i should have made that more clear

  • at 3:25 Duane is two hand tapping ... in the pics.

  • @jf99151 Better way of saying it ... Fret Board Tapping.

  • Duane's claim to fame is slide guitar. Eddie Van Halen's claim to fame is tapping. But the bottom line is that as great as Duane was, Gregg and Dicky Betts wrote all the songs that weren't blues covers. And Warren Hayes was as good a guitarist. He learned all those songs by ear in standard tuning as opposed to Duane tuning to a chord. That's almost hard to believe, but showed some true dedication and respect for Duane's work.

  • Zepher, I hear ya!

seems some folks just don't get it.

  • Can't we just all enjoy the music and stop comparing or fighting over who is the better guitar player? imo they are all great! Clapton,Hendrix,Duane,Rory,Beck etc etc but i don't understand why in every video i go to listen and enjoy their music there has to always be a couple of idiots in the crowd who want to pick a fight and compare artist! all of this is art not some competition we need to all feel blessed that we can enjoy all these wonderful musicians!!!

  • @zepher1494 We don't need to compare, because nobody compares to Duane. Haha!

  • @zepher1494 amen brother!

  • @zepher1494 you find her/it on the magazine Rolling Stone, 1-Hendrix_2°Allman_3° B.B.King.4°Claptonroberts johnson _6°Stev Ray Laughn_7°Jimmy page_

  • @zepher1494 you find her/it on the magazine Rolling Stone, 1-Hendrix_2°Allman_3° B.B.King.4°Claptonroberts johnson _6°Stev Ray Laughn_7°Jimmy page_I prefer Allman to Hendrix, it is an innovative and extraordinary style, damnedly surreal

  • @zepher1494 AMEN!

  • @zepher1494> n y don u jst ignore em? seems even u need sum thumbs up

  • @zepher1494 Amen Brother! Amen

  • One of the most inspirational guitarists of all time! fusing classic blues with classic rock, Duanes name WILL live on forever!

  • 3:28 duane invented tapping not eddie

  • @2GLS7 Even though I love Duane's playing he didn't invent tapping. Tapping's been around since the early 20th century.

  • @DylanGuitar148 Probably before that! Guitar has been around a long time and I have a feeling someone did it back in the 18th or 19th century.

  • The genious Frank Zappa wrote a song called "For Dwayne", of course, dedicated to Mr Allman.

  • Loan Me A Dime has always been my favorite cut off The Anthology L P. Best lics as could be done Thank You

  • :s no offense, i was listening T-Bone Walker and then i started to wonder who are those top 100 magazine R. Stones... i jumped few times in my opera browser and i figured out this Duane... so what? Looks like Thro Tull band or something? nop. dunno who is k, its a cool song but mainly about rhythm variations... why is the second ? hahaha who cares.

  • 9 GUEYES TIENEN PROBLEMAS DE ZOOFILIA.....SERIOS

  • BURNING - ROLLING - BEAUTIFUL - ROCKING - HAUNTINGLY AMAZING!!!

  • uma guitarra absurda...este solo como tantos outros desse monstro da guitarra marcaram my life....

  • Duane is to Blues guitar what Greg is to Blues vocals - simple as that, 'nuff said. And then there's paulschofieldbluesband dot commm

  • There are very very very few actual "artists" anymore like him, Stevie Ray..... hip /hop & rap shit will be forgotten with time.... jest a fad...bad one at that. The real "GREATS" will be just that 4ever........... PURE ORIGINAL GENiOUS! Will still be great 200 years from now !

  • Duane has been dead for almost 40 years and we are still talking about how great he is so that means something in itself. I love Duane and everything he has done.

  • @allmanjoy1 how old was Duane when he died??

  • @djk28161 Nearly 25 years young.

  • Please allow me to agree to disagree... Duane Allman was truly gifted, and you cant take that from him however. IMO Derek Trucks and Elmore James are creatively better. Nonetheless Duane is/was a BEAST!

  • @erj215 Sure, disagree, and voice your opinion. But I humbly think you're way off base. Derek can't touch Duane, and given the fact that Duane had his life cut way too short by that peach truck, had he lived he'd be running circles around EVERYONE today in the Blues genre. He had the torch from all the elder masters and had it snuffed out.

  • @mdpocoroba It wasn't a peach truck.

  • @erj215 They should BE BETTER at their craft they been playing slide longer than he was alive...He died at 24 One month shy of his 25th birthday...He's been playing slide for what 3 or 4 years?...He started it..They took it further..They should they had more time...

  • Guys, there is no the best guitarrist in the world! There are, fortunately, many very good guitarrists playing different styles of music. Some of them are good at studios, others playing live!. And it's also a matter of personal taste, and just cause I like some specific guitarrist, it doesn't necessary means he is the best in the world, besides that none guitarrist is always playing the best, it depends on the song, his mood, the weather, the room, etc.

  • @Jeeznot First I want to say, I’m much less then an expert on any thing that has to do with music.

So my opinion really doesn’t matter shit:

George Barnes, Charlie Christian, Magic Sam, Earl Hooker, T-Bone Walker, otis Rush, Link wray, Duane Allman, Frank Zappa, buddy guy, B.B king ,Albert King , Kenny Burrell, jose Feliciano, Django Reinhardt, Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Lightnin' Slim, Bill Bronzy, Luther Allison and Andres Segovia.

there is no difference what genre you play!

  • @tnb35 i know where you are coming from but in my opinion the original release Band of Gypsies album redeems hendrix in every way and worthy of all the praise. he was heading in an amazing direction. a couple months after his death he had been scheduled to record with miles davis, and i'm sure you know what miles davis was doing in the early 70s. i can't imagine how incredible that session would have been.

  • @danogzilla ok, I wasn't familiar with the bad of the Band of Gypsys, only the Hendrix experience, i don't like it much, but i admit he really know whats he is doing here. it's a matter of personal taste. maybe if he didn't sing...

and i never said that Hendrix was bad by the way. only that there are plenty other good guitarists as good and better then him. so it really get my blood boil when people call him God, ignoring all the rest of the good musicians, but enough about Hendrix!

  • @tnb35 j'aime tous ceux que tu as cité

  • come on no one can compare to this kind of guitar playing....ever...

  • @Jeeznot I'l stop when people will stop saying nonsense like someone is god, someone is the best guitarist in the world, or someone invented guitar solos. or many other stupid comments you see on such videos... but for now i'l stop talking about Hendrix, especially since it is a Duane Allman vid!

  • Duane had a great style and a lot of heart. However, many of his riffs are repeated and there are definitely some missed notes. Hendrix was an innovator and experimented with sounds no one had tried before. What he lacked technically he made up for in crafting sounds and effects. I saw Jeff Beck last week and no one has a better command of the instrument than Beck. Stevie Ray had heart and speed and a great sound but was pretty sloppy. Today's best blues: Joe Bonamassa and Derek Trucks rock.

  • voted as the second best guitarist in history. Respect!!!

  • listen to the licks at 4:39

  • @bobikusmcbob I think Duane has some better solos than Jimi but Steve Hunter (Lou Reed, Rock 'n' Roll Animal, "Heroin") has the best ever. But overall, Jimi is the man!

  • I think Allman could challenge Hendrix for that God spot, but it's a shame both died young.

  • Jimi Hendrix IS God! Duane sits at the LEFT hand of God. Alvin Lee on 'tother side.

  • @orangerobbie Hey man, I ain't heard Alvin Lee's name in many years since Ten Years After broke up. I heard Alvin Lee retired from playing. Man way to early. His guitar was a close rival to Duane Allman, but really not even close. This Boz Scaggs song gace Duane some place to play his solos. Try to listen to key to the highway, man you talk about some guitar solos that Eric Clapton was awed about. Listen and you can hear the guitar talking to you.

  • @orangerobbie Jimi Hendrix is a second grade musician at his best!

  • @tnb35 and you're the biggest ignoramus and troll I have seen so far

  • @Solus77 why? Because I don't like the music of some junky Hippie?

if some one says that Jimi Hendrix is god! he's the ignoramus... i can name so many better guitarists then Hendrix in jazz, blues and even in rock genre. compeered to some of the gretest Jazz and bluse guitarists he was just making noise! Allman, for example is a better musician in my mind... but neither could be called god, they weren't kings of the electric guitar. not even close to the level of the kings.

  • @tnb35 No, because you are saying things that only a madman or a troll would say. Junky?? Dude, please inform yourself before you post. If you label Jimi as a junkie, I don't see how you can talk about any other guitarist then, because by your definition, they were all junkies. You see, Jimi himself said he would never take something like heroin; he said it was something disgusting, for 'street junkies'. He used LSD for example. Smoked pot. The usual shit, whereas Duane was high all the time ->

  • @tnb35 according to some people. Having said that, I consider those two the best in every aspect imaginable, both personality-wise and as musicians. Secondly, I don't recall myself calling either a 'god'. I've never dubbed anyone a 'god' because I think that's distasteful and blasphemous. Thirdly, YOU can name better guitarists?? What kind of an authority are you on this subject that you give yourself the right to determine who's good or bad, better or worse? Let me tell you something, Jimi Hend

  • @tnb35 Hendrix was a greater innovator and player than half of the Rolling Stones best guitarists list members put together. In my opinion, the only worthy masters of guitar are the top four entries and a few others. Why are you even mentioning genres?? Even in rock? Jimi wasn't limited to a narrow-minded, strict division of genres. The man played anything from pure rock'n'roll, hard rock, psychedelics, acid and progressive rock to pure blues and jazz. Just listen to Electric Ladyland and tell

  • @tnb35 if any other guitarist ever made a better record in terms of guitar playing. He was an all-rounder, and I have no idea why people are constantly saying he was lacking in some terms, when he wasn't. The man was a master of rhythm guitar, aside from lead playing. Tell me one guitarist who could play both rhythm and lead with that kind of mastery, and who, in addition, possessed such an artistic spark and creative genius. Creativity and innovation is what it's all about my man, you wouldn't

  • @tnb35 have your great guitarists of today if it wasn't for people like Jimi, Duane and Eric. Or the great progenitors of guitar, blues and rock in general, like BB King Chuck Berry, T-Bone Walker, Robert Johnson etc. It's easy to copy things and take them for granted and say how simple they are now that someone else had uncovered them. You saying Jimi Hendrix produced noise?! Dude, you're living in a world where bands like Metallica are dominating the 'educated' musical niche, and you don't

  • @tnb35 consider their stuff to be noise? In my opinion, Jimi and Duane were, and probably will remain, by far the greatest. They are light years ahead of any other guitarist that ever lived. It's not about how you play the damn guitar, everyone who is willing and has two hands can master the fucking instrument, learn scales, shred and play fast. It's about what you've got inside of you, lurking to get out, and then using the graceful instrument to project it upon the world in a way that caresses

  • @tnb35 our ears when we listen. Duane had amazing talent and feeling, and his playing style was unique. It's not about imitating others, it's about giving a part of yourself and creating something new, that hasn't been done to death. Lol I've written an entire essay here, and you're probably some kiddo who can't even spell. You say they weren't 'even close to the level of kings'. I imagine you wandered here to check this video just to see what's so special about these amazing artists, because

  • @tnb35 you can't believe your beloved Van Halen or Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai are nowhere to be found on idiotic lists and compilations of the 'greatest guitarists' ever. Let me tell you something - you tell me what the 'level of kings' is when it comes to guitar, or anything else for that matter, and then we can continue our conversation. If you don't like Hendrix's music - that's okay. But a critter like you is in no position to mitigate the skills of one of the greatest musicians ever.

  • @Solus77 Van who? Yngwie who? they are nobodies. just like Hendrix

you don't even know who the kings are, the 3 kings... god, you really know nothin... all your rock guitarists are nothing but amateurs compared to real guitarists. i said Duane Allman was ok... but nothing great.

you put Hendrix in such high regard, but you never even heard to music of the geniuses who influenced him and inspired him to play the guitar.

  • @tnb35 Yes I've heard of them. Jimi and Duane and all the others alike took it further and it culminated with them, whereas all the guitarists who came after them only regressed. To say Duane Allman is an ok guitarist is so utterly ignorant and shameless that I don't see the point in discussing this matter with you any longer. Good luck!

  • @Solus77 dude Hendrix could wish he could play like buddy guy, or BB king or T-bone walker

but he was only a crappy pop musician, not much deferent then acdc, lady gaga or the Beatles.

he made noise, at least Allman made music.

  • @tnb35 Lol even if you don't like some of the 'heavier' stuff he did (which isn't to say that any of it is noise, that's just your opinion lmao), you cannot classify something like Little Wing or The Wind Cries Mary as noise. If you consider that to be 'noise', then you really have some issues. If you don't, then you are contradictive. Either way, I don't see no point in explaining this to you. Jimi Hendrix was a genius, as was Duane. They stand out imo, and I'd only put BB and EC up with them.

  • @Solus77 you people give this nobody Hendrix titles as God, and the best guitarist in history

i simply said he wasn't good and not best guitarist in history but a second grade pop musician, nothing more. but he tried to imitate musicians like buddy guy, with not much success, at least pop musicians like the Stones and the Who understood they can't be buddy guy, and just created good simple pop music.

for some strange reason the 1 of the worst performers of the 70's get the most praises

  • @tnb35 Hendrix, The Who and the Stones - pop??? Dude wtf??? o.O How the fuck is Little Wing, The Wind Cries Mary, Voodoo Chile, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, All Along the Watchtower, Dolly Dagger, The Star Spangled Banner, Red House, Izabella pop?? And how the fuck is anything on Axis: Bold as Love noise??? Not that I consider anything else noise, that's fucking retarded and absurd. Voodoo Child is the greatest guitar song ever. Perfection beyond words. n00bz!

  • @tnb35 Noise? Umm sorry what? Did you ever hear Red House, Izabella, or Little Wing? Clearly you've listened to one of is songs and my guess is that it's Voodoo Child. Broaden your horizons before you spew such stupidity. Ignorance is bliss.

  • @GrammarNaziify dude, i listened to many of his songs... i even liked him for a time, then i grew up and discovered the real electric guitar players. but the deceleration that Hendrix is the best guitarist in modern music history is wrong, he isn't the best guitarist, there where so many better guitarists, like buddy guy for example.and he doesn't deserve that title, and admiration he receives!

  • @tnb35 there where 4 musicians that revived too much adoration in the 70's when they didn't deserve it at all.

Hendrix, led zeppelin the Beatles and Bob Dylan, all three made noise and all three are considered best in their filed. why? i could never know.

  • @tnb35 Buddy Guy was great and everything but sooo surpassed and improved on by later masters - notably Hendrix. The man blows everyone else right out of the water. Unfortunately, after this great prolific period of the true masters everything started to regress and guitarists became shit.

  • @tnb35 Thats a joke right

  • love ya.peace!

  • If you think D/A = God ,you have a real small view of God. Don't get me wrong I think Duane was an excellent guitarist , But don't get carried away,he was human ,created by God! So I guess God gets the credit for his abilities huh?

  • @Wendycourtney

His parents created him not god.

  • @TheRockinExperience

    Jeremiah 1 v5 , 2cor4:3-4

  • @Wendycourtney Yeah if God was real he totally would. Too bad he's not. It's actually a huge insult to attribute Duane's amazing skills to the invisible flying spaghetti monster. The man practiced for countless hours and worked his ass off to get to where he was with no help from your sky dictator. Fuck off. <3

  • DUANE die cause god want some guitar lessons ; )

  • Well, If Duane had been black or British.......he would have been God in his own lifetime!!!!!

  • Well, If Duane had been black or British.......he would have been God in his own lifetime!!!!!

  • RIGHT ON DUANE ALLMAN!!he is a genius.

  • Duane Allman = GOD

  • I love these pictures of Duane. He just looks so contented. The ones where he is sitting with his guitar.

  • I love these pictures of Duane. He just looks so contented.

  • not better lioli

  • theres a truck driver around Macon that should of got his ass beat to a pulp

  • Rock on Skydog!
