His biography is so sad. I read it about 4 years ago and after the re-union show with Mick Jones there were real contemplative efforts to make a Clash reunion happen. The only concern they had was for Topper to stay clean. No-one expected the blindside of Joe's death that December.

Joe passed of a congenital heart defect; it could've taken him away long before he even brought us The Clash, let alone his excellent return w/ The Mescaleros. He passed a happy man, full of hope. Look for the docu "The Future Is Unwritten"- a moving tribute.

I saw the first North American concert the Clash did, it was in Vancouver BC at the Commodore Ballroom, one of the top ten clubs in the world...nothing to this day has compared to that night , The Dishrags opened, then Bo Diddley 2nd up and then the The Clash... we all knew, big hair Rock and Roll was dead and never to return. No more idiots like Foreigner, Van Halen, Toto or any of the other spandex wearing posers who generally had more hair spray and back combing than my both my sisters.

Joe Strummer is my own personal hero. The Clash got me through my teenage years unscathed. I never could've made it without them and without everything Joe declared them to stand for.

The movie Rudeboy threw me back a little but over the years Joe earned so much trust and respect from me and his music with the Mescaleros was fantastic.
