His biography is so sad. I read it about 4 years ago and after the re-union show with Mick Jones there were real contemplative efforts to make a Clash reunion happen. The only concern they had was for Topper to stay clean. No-one expected the blindside of Joe's death that December.
Joe passed of a congenital heart defect; it could've taken him away long before he even brought us The Clash, let alone his excellent return w/ The Mescaleros. He passed a happy man, full of hope. Look for the docu "The Future Is Unwritten"- a moving tribute.
I saw the first North American concert the Clash did, it was in Vancouver BC at the Commodore Ballroom, one of the top ten clubs in the world...nothing to this day has compared to that night , The Dishrags opened, then Bo Diddley 2nd up and then the The Clash... we all knew, big hair Rock and Roll was dead and never to return. No more idiots like Foreigner, Van Halen, Toto or any of the other spandex wearing posers who generally had more hair spray and back combing than my both my sisters.
"Greed, it ain't going anywhere, they should have that in a big billboard across times square" The world would be a better place with Joe, we need him today more than ever....
Been A Clash fan since there first album and was lucky enough to see Joe with the Mescaleros in Toronto on the Global A Go Go tour, was incredible.RIP Joe we miss you
With all the protests going on all around the world (Tunisia, Egypt, USA, UK, etc.) right now, I wanted to re-listen to Joe's words of wisdom... Don't go killing those worker bees as you sit back and collect that money, honey!
we need more of this. we'll never have another Clash, but goddamn it, please let some up-and-coming talented mofos be inspired by musicians like this and not the crap that passes as "rock" these days.

Joe Strummer is my own personal hero. The Clash got me through my teenage years unscathed. I never could've made it without them and without everything Joe declared them to stand for.
The movie Rudeboy threw me back a little but over the years Joe earned so much trust and respect from me and his music with the Mescaleros was fantastic.
RIP Joe. Totally my idol forever and always ♥ I wish real music were still around rather than this bloody shit the industries are spewing out of their asshole-faces. ):
its pure delight like this that really does put the autotune reliant, non instrument playing, talentless, pop idol, karaoke wankers purely in their place. At the bottom of the musical landfill where they belong.
R.I.Punk, Joe. The only musician that matters. Without the sheer inspiration that man conveyed, I doubt I would have ever bothered picking up an instrument. Gone, but never- NEVER- forgotten.
I spent a very stoned couple of hours sat next to the great man in his dressing room after a fantastic Mescaleros concert in Leeds. He was so easy to talk to and interested in everybody! My utter inspiration and No. 1 hero.

Strummer's politics may have changed since Michelle and I walked out on one of his shows at the Bond Theater sometime in the 1970s. That night he was showing vid on a drop behind The Clash of American troops murdering Vietnamese babies. There's nothing apolitical about this piece, but at least it's not aimed - as blantantly - at America like his Clash work, which I found too disturbing.

Read "Let fury have the hour." He felt that he could keep expanding as a musician and reach a larger audience with the Mescaleros and if you've read anything about him- his best work was that which got a message out to people and attempted to dispell ignorance.

Anyone who thinks strummer or the clash ever sold out is a complete and ignorant fool.
All the guys from the clash loved eclectic music , and they practically invented the style of fusion of punk/ska & reggae.

Read "Let fury have the hour." He felt that he could keep expanding as a musician and reach a larger audience with the Mescaleros and if you've read anything about him- his best work was that which got a message out to people and attempted to dispell ignorance.

RIP Joe. Great song, I think it is the best one from the Mescaleros.

I reckon that by bees he mean iraq and iran and by honey he means oil? What a man though, amazing guy.
