It didn't sell well because of DOOM, I still have to try this but I am worried about how you can save in this game and how the game, as it is old, if it will show objectives and destinations clear and make it understandable of what and where I have to go and do basically.
@zztoprules1 Thanks for checking it out. I wouldn't consider Bioshock a horror game but you could stretch it a bit if you needed it for a list like this. It doesn't have the same tone as most of the horror games I have played in the past but does share some qualities.
I just beat it this morning... it took me all summer to complete...oh good lord I can whole heartedly say that im content with this being the greatest game I have ever played and im not going to ever forget it
I love to see a remake of System shock 2! It was not for System shock 2 we would not have Bioshock one of all time favorite games! Does anyone knows if there still gonna make a System Shock 3?
I wouldn't expect to see system shock 3 any time soon, maybe if deus ex : human revolution sells well EA might decide to do something with the SS IP to cash in on its success. Here's hoping at least!
@HAETMUNGOR You know, I would love this game if they were to just re-release it as an exact copy with updated graphics. It would take very minimal work, and they could cash in hardcore on it. Hell, its already got all the voice acting in it already... its almost flawless.
It is NOT mainly a shooter! It is mainly a horror game! Then it is a RPG/sneaking/shooter mix. If youre playing it like a shooter, YOURE DOING IT WRONG!
I think this game didn't do as well, not so much because it didn't blend RPG and FPs elements together, but didn't blend them together all that well. Combat could be a bit awkward at times, and wepon degration a little to extreme. Your gun would fall apart after you ran through two clips or so. That may not have been the best decision, plus the game required a lot of micro management where it probably shouldn't have. That being said, I still loved the game for its unique atmosphere and setting.
while i agree that the degredation system was very extreme, but the combat was perfect. if your having trouble downing enemies, you didnt build your character well enough to complete the game.
Oh I wasn't referring to the difficulty of combat, but more to the fact that other games of that period did better in translating action to the screen. To me it always seemed a bit rough cut and could have used some extra work to make it feel more organic and real. When you hit something, it really felt like you were just sapping away HP. Also, features like leaning sideways was hardly ever useful and movement in general just seemed to be a bit off. Mouse control could have been better, too.
@peri2502 i can kind of see your points, but i use the lean feature all the time. its extreamly useful for taking out turrets without getting yourself killed. i kind of liked the sapping away hp, made the game feel more like a horror rpg, which there isnt many of. i will say tho that i enjoyed the first ones combat much more, like a blend of a rails shooter with an action game. more freedom.
love love LOVE this game, some of my fondest gaming memories.
SO scary! Not the best graphics but the environment, lighting and sound really get to you.
It's true that it didn't sell as well as it should, it's not very often that I mention SS2 and get the "FUCK YEAH!" that I'm hoping for. Usually someone has played Bioshock but has never heard of System Shock 2. I must admit I never played the original System Shock, but to be fair it was before my time. I was 16 when SS2 came out.
SS is free now, if your interested in playing it PM me as its abandonware and ill show you how to set up dosbox and get it working :) imho its better then ss2 in some aspects.
hashaha plankton i would love to have system shock 3 would be well good. Again locke a very good review as are all the others in your horror game reviews

It's 2114, not 2014. If it were 2014, how could SS1 have taken place in 2072?

I hate horror games that's consists of random screamer or screamer-like 'horror'.
It's amazingly cheap and not fun to play, however system shock 2 is a good game, just I don't like the screamer-like elements.
