@schmoesknow you guys are right, this was the worst movie I've ever seen! However, you guys need to watch the show on netflix even if you don't like cartoons. Ive seen many different cartoons, but Avatar the Last Airbender has to have one of the deepest story lines in the history of American animation and if you don't believe me read the reviews.
I've watched so many reviews, and by the looks of it, it's probably a really good thing I didn't go see it...even from the previews I wanted to go into a corner, bawl my eyes out, bang my head into a wall for ten minutes, scream for ten more, and sleep for a month. Ah, well. I'll just stick to the animated series...and to all of you who have only seen the movie: WATCH THE SERIES. It's the best thing that has ever happened to cartoons. Seriously. I actually have every book saved on Netflix.

got this on DvD as a freebie when I rented Rio last week, and wow couldn't get past the first 10min of it, I turned it off and came on youtube to write this! It's a big fart in the face for anyone who has seen the cartoon version of it.

To be fair, I loved the film ! A lot of people complain about the differences between the show and the movie, but they forget that it's an adaptation, you have to take liberties from the original product, Shyamalan did this to show is own vision of the show, also Tim Burton's Batman was different, X-men was different, Jurrasic Park was different from the original book, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (Disney version) was really different from the book but they all were great films.

yes M. Night Shamalamadingdong blows. But this was surely his best film. You guys are tools for criticizing kids acting 1 and 2 for seeing it in 3D! Of course the acting would be a lil weak, the actors need to be the cheapest part of a long shot production. And If it's get a good enough turn around, then you pull out all the stops. Milla Jovovich already wants in! I loved this movie! And yes i haven't seen the animated series. and i'm glad for maybe this movie would have upset me too.
@LaFmAn9 You can't just excuse the bad acting in this movie. The main actors (Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, and Jackson Rathbone) are 14, 16, and 26 years old respectively. Think of the "Harry Potter" movies. The three main actors in "Sorcerer's Stone" were far younger than the ones in "The Last Airbender", yet they did a FAR BETTER job.

Movie was outrageous. The cartoon was incredible. You've got magical karate based around the elements. The underdog heroes vs. the harsh militaristic evil Fire Nation. How can that be a bad thing? Shyamalan is how I guess. This is the first movie I've ever watched (including The Phantom Menace) where i could tell something was irreparably wrong after only 2 minutes. This movie makes me question my instincts on whether or not I can tell what's going to be a good or bad movie now.
It truly saddens me that the creators of Avatar had to get so vigorously raped by M. Night's big ego. Like everyone else said go see the cartoon, the best cartoon from USA in recent memory, if you want your expectations of this movie to be fulfilled.

A part of knew this was going to suck. I mean, its not that often they take a cartoon/video game/tv show , make a live action movie of it, and its actually good. Look at DB Evolution and Street fighter (both) and many others. The only good ones (or at least tolerable) I can think of are Silent Hill (loved this movie), the first 2 RE movies, Mortal Kombat (guilty pleasure), and Garfield (another guilty pleasure).,

@Nixom1334 he could have made it in to book 1: part 1 book1: part 2 etc. they did the same thing with harry potter and the deathly hallows. they could'nt make it in to 1 movie, so they made it in to 2. it would have made more buissness sense and he might have some positive reviews. but instead, lets take out 90% of the storyline, because that makes alot of sense.

I think M. Night Shyamalamdingdong made 1 good movie, 1 great movie, and 1 really great movie(Signs, Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable-yes in that order... I fucking loved Unbreakable). Since then it's been down hill.
What 3D ? I am still struggeling what scenes were in 3D. It was just a waste of time the movie sucked and we had to wear stupid glasses in case a 3D would show up.

@Pevensify I agree. Avatar was a fantastic cartoon, so when I heard about the movie, my reaction was "HELL YES!!! This will be THE movie to see" then I heard it was being directed by M. Night Shyamalan and my reaction changed to "Oh... fuck."
I think Shyamalan was just the cheapest director they could find, as most of the budget was for special effects, and that's how we got this piece of shit pretending to be Avatar: The Last Air Bender.

It was terrible, because my brothers and I pretty much devoted a month of our lives to watching the series, then a week later we saw the movie. It was... SO DISAPPOINTING! I'll NEVER forgive Shyamalan. EVER. *sigh*... Such an abomination. Us devoted Avatards deserve SO much better.

I also love One Piece, but the one blessing of it not being as popular in the western world (thanks to 4Kids) is that it won't get a God awful live action movie made. i saw it.....i'm not a air bender cartoon fan....even though i'm not a fan of the cartoon i still check for the relevant part in the movie..sadly, like the schmoes said. it sux.....almost every one got the main characters name wrong (kinda like how they switched up DR.tenma with nicolas cage in astro boy)..over all it sucked.

A part of knew this was going to suck. I mean, its not that often they take a cartoon/video game/tv show , make a live action movie of it, and its actually good. Look at DB Evolution and Street fighter (both) and many others. The only good ones (or at least tolerable) I can think of are Silent Hill (loved this movie), the first 2 RE movies, Mortal Kombat (guilty pleasure), and Garfield (another guilty pleasure).,

@akamanolo Nope at least the fire nation killed them all fast.Shyamalan raped it humiliated it showed that raping and humiliation to the public and then he killed it.It went almost like jumping the shark, coming back shooting it in the balls, raping it, eating it's flesh consuming it's soul, mounting it's head on the wall and then doing the same things to 12 more fucking sharks just to be safe.It even got so many awards for worst director worst plot worst story worst actors and actresses etc...

@Nixom1334 he could have made it in to book 1: part 1 book1: part 2 etc. they did the same thing with harry potter and the deathly hallows. they could'nt make it in to 1 movie, so they made it in to 2. it would have made more buissness sense and he might have some positive reviews. but instead, lets take out 90% of the storyline, because that makes alot of sense.

@girlikescupcakes8773 it was an idiotic move by M. night. he obviously never saw the entire series, taking out the kioshi warriors completely out of the story line. aang was humorless, and unless you've seen the series is almost impossible to know where you're at. not to mention the weak earth bending that takes ten minutes with 5 or 6 guys to lift one rock 3 feet off the ground.

I'd much rather spend money on the cartoon than I would on this, the cartoon was 100000000000 times better. If Shamylan hadn't directed it, it would have had the potential to become the next Star Wars or Lord of the Rings

I think M. Night Shyamalamdingdong made 1 good movie, 1 great movie, and 1 really great movie(Signs, Sixth Sense, and Unbreakable-yes in that order... I fucking loved Unbreakable). Since then it's been down hill.

@Pevensify I agree. Avatar was a fantastic cartoon, so when I heard about the movie, my reaction was "HELL YES!!! This will be THE movie to see" then I heard it was being directed by M. Night Shyamalan and my reaction changed to "Oh... fuck."
I think Shyamalan was just the cheapest director they could find, as most of the budget was for special effects, and that's how we got this piece of shit pretending to be Avatar: The Last Air Bender.

@Grojak Sadly... I had not previously seen any of Night's movies, so I was not prepared for the horrificness when I went to see the movie. It was terrible, because my brothers and I pretty much devoted a month of our lives to watching the series, then a week later we saw the movie. It was... SO DISAPPOINTING! I'll NEVER forgive Shyamalan. EVER. *sigh*... Such an abomination. Us devoted Avatards deserve SO much better.

I also love One Piece, but the one blessing of it not being as popular in the western world (thanks to 4Kids) is that it won't get a God awful live action movie made. I just wish that if they make an anime movie in future they use big name actors, a large budget and hire a director and writer's that know what their doing. So in other words, NOT M.NIGHT SHYSMALAN!!! (God I hate that dude).

Anyway, I'm with you. Thankfully, the One Piece fans will likely be spared of Hollywood's crap.
I... respect Shyamalan trying to get unknown actors to be well known, and to not be racist, and blah. But I think it's more important to be accurate to the atmosphere of an Asian movie.
