  • how do you get it in the "transition" shape?

  • I want a Nitinol car body so that when i crash, all I need to do is spray some hot water over it.

  • LOL indians

  • Hey, guys! I made a belt of Nitinol wire.

*Someone splashes hot water on me*

Belt says "BUY A REAL BELT"

  • how do you shape it to what you want

  • @AJLOVESLILY You have to heat treat it and shape set it to the shape you want, so this involves - typically- having it at around 520degs for about 10mins in the shape you want

  • This video appears to be from an introductory metallury lab course and the instructor correctly describes this as a reversible martinsite-austinite reversible. This behavior has been known for over a hundred years. A number of ferrous and non-ferrous metal alloys undergo stress or temperature induced reversible shape transformations. These transformations were first observed 130 years ago by a German metallurgist named Martin and hence they are called martinsitic transformations.

  • it would be cool to make a car out of this. like if a car got totally demolished, they would just heat it up and it would fix itself. Or make buildings out of it to make earthquake-proof buildings. Technology is on the edge of fantasy!

  • cool
