  • I just saw a picture of Leadbelly and Bunk together... did they make recordings together?

  • Wow does Bunk's playing on this recording resemble the beautiful 'softness' of Bix. No need to always blast the Heavens open. What an ensemble!

    Timeless, beautiful music...

  • bellissimo !

  • Bunk was the greatest

  • Absolutely superb! Thanks Clive, cheered me up a lot at a particularly worrying time.

Wonderful. He was the business! Coupled with my favourite, George, too much.

  • Quite fantastic !! Thanks for sharing.

  • This is truly some wonderful nostalgic NO jazz.Thank you MoledFigg.I wonder what they msut have sounded like in their best years if they can still play to this standard on this record.Great stuff!

  • Great Bunk and band playing this classic tune. There is a very good chapter on Bunk Johnson, "Bunk's Back Country Blues," in the book "Remembering Song" by Frederick Turner published in 1982. It covers Bunk from his early days with the Superior Orchestra right up though his rediscovery and up until his death. The book was published by Viking Press and is well worth picking up on Amazon or any place you can find it. I remember buying the book for $13.95 then finding it remaindered for 49 cents!
