John Mayer & John Scofield "I Don't Need No Doctor" (Ray Charles Cover) on Late night TV

You people, try to sound like John Scofield... you'll discover that only him can sound like that. John Mayer is quite more common. Plus, come on, it takes a little while to get used to his sound, but then you'll fall in love with it.

If you can't realize that the light performance is miles better than why should I even take your consideration? The singing, the tone, the guitar playing-main riff and solo, the feel, and band easily blow this version away. I definitely wouldn't call scofield a master... He obviously shows that he's good but he's not a master. Joe bonamassa is a master, and Id still rather listen to mayer! Scofield is skilled, but not as listenable. And as a songwriter, i doubt he even comes close to mayer.

Mayer seemed sick, by his voice in the video. Its obvious that scofield is probably more technically and pattern skilled than mayer, but as a bluesman and a listener, John Mayer is way more fun to listen to. If only he would have had a better tone here! Either way, his where is the light performance of this puts this version to shame!!!

@lsdman14 Mayer's "Light" performance puts this to shame? Hardly. He gets more raucous on that, that's all. Mayer is a terrific songwriter & blues gtr player, but Sco is a gtr master, comfortable in several genres. He always plays like himself (his style doesn't morph), but he plays straight-ahead, funk, fusion styles of jazz, as well as pretty authentic blues. He's also a prolific writer. His playing & writing have advanced the jazz lexicon. He's at another level.

I'm a big fan of Sco, but his tone has gone weird over the last few years. To me, almost unlistenable. I liked his work on Star People with MD, among other great recordings.

who is the best guitarist is not for me to decide, but john mayer most definately has the better guitar tone, id argue it to be one of the best guitar tones ever.

Funny how people argue about who is better known, Sco or Mayer. First, it doesnt really matter - thet are both amazing in their own kind. Second, its obvious that Mayer is a Scofields fan and values him very high - look at his solo performances compared to this one he feels much more relaxed, playing on a stage with a legend like Sco is actually put a lot of pressure on him. I respect them both madly, and it is amazing we have collaborations like this in these days. God bless music.

Wow! Steve Jordan falls out of the pocket at 1:15 and again 1:25. Not a common occurrence. You can see it at 1:25 when his right had loses it and he get's tentative. I guess even the greatest groovers are human.

Scofield's has a small advantage (let's see his age) I know Sco. since 1983, and I know JM for a year, BUT completly doesn't matter. They are working on a different market. Good to see them together. I love their music!!!!! That' all folks! :)

I really don't know Mr. Mayer but i love since 30 years Mr.Scofield. I think Mr Mayer sings and plays as many people on the present and past, same things. Mr.Scofield....

@marcopeci I would agree that Scofield has mastered a more personal tone and a versatility beyond Mayer. But I think both of the Johns are talented musicians and John Mayer plays, even though a lot srv-inspired and straight, very cool cat blues. (but sco is still one of my all time favorites)

- and on the "Who is Scofield?"-comment: all mu friend know who John Mayer is, but only some of them know whot Scofield is, and only a few can recognize him. I'm 20 and have a lot of music-friends".

Can I tell you something guys? i hate these "john sco fans", or mayer, whatever, who still comparing them. they are both excellent musicians of different ages, they gave to us a lot of contribution for our music, extensally.

All I can say is, there's a desgusting influence of things that you see on MEDIA: fuck them! john mayer has a incredible career, dosen't matter what you see on television! if you listen for the B sides, you will understand.
