I thought Latin American countries have no discrimination and everyone are equall, even skin colors are different. However, I saw the current situation and history of discrimination against black people in Latin America. I think it's difficult to solve discrimination or negative image to black people because of their history of slave. It makes people in Latin America to be equal difficult.
It is true that the history of Black people has been oppressed in Latin American countries.
We shouldn't blame the people who conceal thier ancestor was black.Because we can choose our identity by ourselves. Now we can see many traces in their music, paintings and dances which is originally come from the black culture. I think it might be a cultural resistance.
Mint, what do you mean with "cultural resistance"? Is it really possible to choose one´s identity? It seems more like a nice dream, don´t you think? Are you being realistic?
Thank you for posting this. Also, I never realized how much Susana Baca looks like Lena Horne.
