Its an asp caterpillar. There are several kinds. Whatever you do dont touch it. Their hairs are like little barbs and they can leave a nasty sting. Use duct tape to remove the barbs if stung. I had one in a shoe several years ago. Took an hour for the pain to go away.

we've got lots of these in Rockport TX. Some people are bothered by the little hairs on it's back. They don't seem to bother me much. We call them 'woolly worms'. A lot of people have their oak trees sprayed to kill them, but they not that much of a bother to me.
