@bearsheeps, it actually means something that is under a shadow in French and it's written "ombré". Because ombre means shadow.

I can see why it's popular. When I was a kid, my hair would do the same thing in the sun.. and get naturally bleached. It looks the same way and reminds people of just being in the summer sun without doing a ton of bleaching. Even though they are doing a little bleaching. I think it's safer just to use a light ash blonde- to prevent any brass tones.

Another stupid gimmick to sell the public.

I can get this look by letting my colored hair grow out. What is fashionable about looking like your forgot to color your hair for several months? Highlights, lowlights etc. are really nice but looking like you decided to stop coloring your hair is just plain, well, stupid.

Are women really such slaves to fashion (and celebrities) that they lose their common sense? Thank heavens it's on its way out....
