ahhaha tuned car vs factory tuned car... yeah right.. spoon crz cost more then fn2r... btw why dont they put a race between spoon crz vs mugen fn2r.. i think that will be a more fair race..
@TheHondaTuner Lol nope it's the stock engine with a new exhaust and other small mods. It's putting out around 135HP.It just won cause it corners quicker with a tuned suspension and upgraded tires + lightweight. But there has been engine swaps into the CRZ,a K20A swap has been done.Spoon had considered swapping a K20A into the CRZ,but decided to keep it a hybrid for now
There is a project called the KR-Z, where they replaced the guts with a k-20.
However, don't discount the hybrid power plant. Bisimoto has already proven that it is capable of a huge bump in performance, all while staying a hybrid and maintaining good mpg. On top of that, the electric motor assist gives the default power plant a lot of torque in the low end, something Honda engines typically struggle with.
@polarisoctane Nope it was but now its 100% Rustless. Anywhere. Still i think a CRZ is a "joke" as most people would say in germany. They dont like Honda anyway but at least a CRX is respected as a classic and its still faster :P
@MrMkjjme It's fair if the stock car has 220HP stock and the tuned has 110 stock. The CRZ (tuned) isn't even making 150.It all comes down to cornering capability
@djloxo Yep,the Civic R FN2 would have a better chance at Tsubuka Circuit. That would be a great race since the CRZ wouldn't go down fighting with quick cornering b/c of suspension tuning by Ichisima-san
The FN2 is faster than the 2001 EP3 but a tad slower than 2004 EP3 so I wouldn't call it a shit car unless your a professional and that was your verdict but it wouldn't be that because you'd know better.
@timsk Anyone who believed that utter tosh that Jeremy clarkson spouted about the fn2 is either a very silly child or a retarded adult witch one are you? "3 wheels on the ground round a corner?" = shit handling - Fact. All 4 wheels on the ground = good handling. Not to mention the edits/cuts on that video are all over the place. Watch it again an tell me that was one take - bollocks! Rematch against the CW Crt would be a different story - As for this video stock vs modified = unfair rigged jap
@TH3D0CTOR yes and Stig had elected civic type r fn2 the best hothach 2007... so before speak a car should be drived! In the hills of my home i have not fear of any car with my fn2! c'mon crz i wait you =)
unfair comparison.....track tuned "spoon" car beats stock hot hatch....hardly surprising....what was done to the cr-z??...the fn2 isn't a "racing" car, its a hot hatch.
The Euro R comparison is easy. Most anything would win against the Euro R's ridiculous amounts of understeer. (See the Top Gear evaluation of the Euro R)
As said before, compare a proper modified Type R against this "green shit". Do not do it with a standard Euro R. However, this FN2 (against the CR-Z) it is not in its full potential, also the driver is not going all hard he should on some places.
It is just a promotional video for the Spoon CR-Z. That's all.
@musicmanvin1 Yeah but by the time the ozone layer runs out, I'll already be dead XD. Becides the CR-Z or any of these hybrids arent saving anything, they are just slowing down the process by a small degree. And its not like a significant percent of us are using hybrids anyways.
@musicmanvin1 it doesn't have to be completely gone for you to die from it.. it also protects against UV rays which cause skin cancer and such, which is harming people right now because of the holes we already put in it. I agree that these Hybrids aren't saving anything, at best they act as a stepping stone to move away from gas to something better, such as hydrogen.
understeer is bad bcuz honda makes civics with McPherson suspension setup as apposed to the 90s civics that used double wishbone suspension which is superior
@1PARADOXXX... but double wishbone still consists of mcpherson struts...? i get where your coming from though... shame it isnt independant on the rear either :/, i keep thinking the new civic will go back to independant and double wishbone... look out for a turbo as standard to as rumour is theyre fittin a turbo due to emmisions laws.... i will get the crz then the new civic... gigidy gigidy :P

thats wat made it fun..... honda always left the rest to the tuner..... FN2 probably not the best car..... but if u put cars like ek9. ep3..... sure it is going to be awsome...
one thing that i realize is Honda didnt produce high rev engine anymore...
For them who said that Honda didnt up their level, think again
This is the time where honda will start another revolution just like what they did before, RACING HYBRID is on.
I want to know what was done to the crz by spoon,
my guess is if it was stock the civi would have overtaken it. Still, Food for thought. because I bet that lightweight still gets 50mpg highway, pretty sick balance of power and ecenomy that only honda can deliver :)
You have to thank honda itself for this understeer. Making a car which is cheaper to product they sacrificed the independent rear suspension. They could install the suspension from the japanes version then it would be faster than this cr-z. But no they wanted to save money... Here you go it is the result of their own misery.

Like comparing a Top Fuel Dragster with a stock Zo6.
And this course is horriblyyyy in favor of the less power/tighter handling CRZ.....let it have a big straight and faster corners like Tsukuba....be a different story
Standard car with standard tyres beaten on twisty track by tuned car on oversized semi slick tyres? There's a shock. Nothing to see here, folks, move along...
@cpz4civ u right! the FN2 just suxx i was happy i got one of the last EP3 in my county 2007-2009 we dont have new CTR... an on 2009 the FN2 comes out an failed XD but i think i will change my EP3 + MB2 if CR-Z Type R is out here i want back my old CRX Vtec :(
im sorry but all the people saying the civic is shit... how can it be shit when its agaisnt a car thats is DESIGNED to be sporty and for things like this... theres only 2-300kg in weight deference stock, but uve got a 200bhp 2 litre to make up for the extra weight. the crz had better acceleration, but on the straights the civic was catching. the crz has 124bhp standard.. and those who say the euro is shit... dont judge untill uve driven a euro in europe...and if u have, this isnt japan....
haha.. i really prefer the JDM Civic Type-R.. because it's more good looking (for me) and of course the performance that the JDM Civic Type-R gave is much much better that this European type ^^
i'm not kind of people that really pursue comfort for driving.. hehehe
just my opinion.. no offence for the European fans..
if you search Fifth Gear - Fiat Panda 100HP vs. Ferrari 360 Modena you will see what i was talking about at the end of my comment. obviously both are stock cars compared to the best motoring video but they are both racing on very similar tracks short with half the track being corners.
I guess this is what you get when you compare a stock car to a fully modded one. Generally, this is the result. The only think I got from this comparison is that the CR-Z has good potential for tuning.
@ricardofcarvalho the cr-z is not fully modded . the civic is a full race car and not stock because the type-r is the race model of the base civic and the si version . so that means it has a race suspension , race transmission , a race prep engine ... its a 2.0 that pushes about 201 to 210 hp compared to the 1.5 in the crz.. the crz on had a suspension upgrade and maybe intake but nothing was done to the engine. Crz is fatser on takeoff because of the electric motor ... max torque is instant
@groundhabit God the ignorance is ASTOUNDING. The CR-Z has suspension developed from Spoon and also properly fitted tires and wheels for GRIP. It is also significantly LIGHTER than that of the FN2. Last I checked, being some 600lbs/272kg lighter is a significant advantage! As much as I hate the FN2 Civic, I can't believe there are those like you, who would believe this was a ECO vs. "Race" car test. If anything it's a Race Eco vs. Sports car test.
@camberwear Do your research before you talk . CRZ Power(SAE): 122 hp @ 6,000 rpm; 128 ft lb of torque @ 1,000 rpm and weighs 2670lbs MT and 2720 with CVT ..
FN2 type -r specs are- 198 hp at 7,500 rpm and 142 lb·ft of torque at 5,600 rpm. It runs on Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires or Yokohama Advan Sport and weighs 2790lbs . need i remind you that type-r stands for race meaning all was tuned from factory base model including engine, suspension, tires, brakes, exhaust and body.
@groundhabit Do you HONESTLY think the SPOON CR-Z still weighs 2670lbs? GET A REALITY CHECK. Type-Rs are known to be Factory Honda Race Cars? That is called MARKETING. Yes it does come with race INSPIRED components, but do you HONESTLY believe that they are truly race cars? Wow. The CR-Z is known as the first SPORTS ECO car - if you want ECO car, think Prius. The rest of your argument is moot and lacks credible standing. It was a modified car vs. a STOCK sport car.
@camberwear pause the damn vid at 12 sec and please tell me what you see that has been taken out of the car to ake it the 600lbs you claim that is less in the cr-z ... do you really know much 600 pounds is ? a hayabusa weighs 530lbs and thats one of the biggest sport bikes you can own ... so your telling me that spoon stripped the car without removing any interior parts or back seats ? and by the way the back seats are still there , they are just folded down .... state facts not opinions !!!!
@camberwear Now let me jump on your ass about type-r ... find any type-r specs and compare it to its stock predecessor and you will see that very area that makes a car a race car has been touched on a type-r and the HP is significantly noticeable ... and is the suspension the best in the world on type-r's ? no but its way better then the base stock model which makes the type-r a non stock car ... by the way i never said the type-r is a full blown race car
@groundhabit I can admit the weight of the car is not -600lb but there exists a version that was prepped for Thunderhill that is. This one is still 220lbs lighter than stock. This one fact does remain - The CR-Z is modified lightened and the FN2 is not. Spoon has always had a "bad habit" of showing off their tuning ability to humble the factory variants before Type-Rs even existed. The cars were in favor of the CR-Z anyway - it's running at Nikko which is pretty much a go kart track.
@camberwear I agree with you on that. the civic type-r euro is a piece of junk compared to the jdm CTR, most likely the reason they didn't use the jdm ctr or itr due to the fact they would destroy the cr-z. the civic is also a stock car compared to the cr-z which has been moded from wheels, weight, power most likely 122whp, and knowing spoon body has been improved upon. also the cr-z has less power and weight meaning it could run the track basically going WOT while the civic could not.
@camberwear And like i said before spoon is just showing how only updating a suspension on a well balance car can get you in and out of corners well and also that hybrid cars like the crz with electric motor can make a great track car because max torque comes at 1k rpm unlike the FN2 at about 7k rpm... and yes this was a eco vs race car . tires and suspension does not turn a base car into a race car ... takes more then that
@camberwear my bad not 7k but around 5600k to 6k rpm for max torque on FN2 ... Pause the vid at 1:46 and READ!!!!!!!!!! thats what spoon is trying to show by upgrading the suspension and keeping everything else stock .... upgrading a suspension does not make the base model CR-Z a race car ... type-r's are known to be factory Honda race cars
they should STOP letting Europe make the CTRs. Maybe the usa should get a chance. Or to save money, they should just give the usa the same tools and parts and make the ctr here in the usa.
@BlairMV spoons purpose for this is not to show who is faster in a straight line but who is better at cornering ... a kart track is perfect to show the two main things spoon is trying to show cornering and acceleration ... the kart tracks have lots of turns so it was perfect for that . and it shows that the crz can come out and accelerate out of corners better then any factory tuned car on the market by just upgrading suspension
Damn, Hattori got old.

haha.. i really prefer the JDM Civic Type-R.. because it's more good looking (for me) and of course the performance that the JDM Civic Type-R gave is much much better that this European type ^^
i'm not kind of people that really pursue comfort for driving.. hehehe
just my opinion.. no offence for the European fans..

if you search Fifth Gear - Fiat Panda 100HP vs. Ferrari 360 Modena you will see what i was talking about at the end of my comment. obviously both are stock cars compared to the best motoring video but they are both racing on very similar tracks short with half the track being corners.

Who says a FN2 Type R is a race car??? This Spoon CR-Z is much more
race car! And btw...how much Horsepower has this CRZ? I drive it already,
it has a good handling but stock much softer suspension setup than a FN2 and
much less power!!! This comparison lacks totaly in objectivity!!!
rolexr 1 year ago
poor test.... try the spoon cr-z with spoon fn2 and will see what happen ;) also this is a kart track and not real track.....

I guess this is what you get when you compare a stock car to a fully modded one. Generally, this is the result. The only think I got from this comparison is that the CR-Z has good potential for tuning.
ricardofcarvalho 1 year ago
@ricardofcarvalho the cr-z is not fully modded . the civic is a full race car and not stock because the type-r is the race model of the base civic and the si version . so that means it has a race suspension , race transmission , a race prep engine ... its a 2.0 that pushes about 201 to 210 hp compared to the 1.5 in the crz.. the crz on had a suspension upgrade and maybe intake but nothing was done to the engine. Crz is fatser on takeoff because of the electric motor ... max torque is instant
groundhabit 1 year ago
@groundhabit God the ignorance is ASTOUNDING. The CR-Z has suspension developed from Spoon and also properly fitted tires and wheels for GRIP. It is also significantly LIGHTER than that of the FN2. Last I checked, being some 600lbs/272kg lighter is a significant advantage! As much as I hate the FN2 Civic, I can't believe there are those like you, who would believe this was a ECO vs. "Race" car test. If anything it's a Race Eco vs. Sports car test.
camberwear 1 year ago
@camberwear Do your research before you talk . CRZ Power(SAE): 122 hp @ 6,000 rpm; 128 ft lb of torque @ 1,000 rpm and weighs 2670lbs MT and 2720 with CVT ..
FN2 type -r specs are- 198 hp at 7,500 rpm and 142 lb·ft of torque at 5,600 rpm. It runs on Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires or Yokohama Advan Sport and weighs 2790lbs . need i remind you that type-r stands for race meaning all was tuned from factory base model including engine, suspension, tires, brakes, exhaust and body.
groundhabit 1 year ago
@groundhabit Do you HONESTLY think the SPOON CR-Z still weighs 2670lbs? GET A REALITY CHECK. Type-Rs are known to be Factory Honda Race Cars? That is called MARKETING. Yes it does come with race INSPIRED components, but do you HONESTLY believe that they are truly race cars? Wow. The CR-Z is known as the first SPORTS ECO car - if you want ECO car, think Prius. The rest of your argument is moot and lacks credible standing. It was a modified car vs. a STOCK sport car.
camberwear 1 year ago

The cars were in favor of the CR-Z anyway - it's running at Nikko which is pretty much a go kart track.
camberwear 1 year ago
@camberwear I agree with you on that. the civic type-r euro is a piece of junk compared to the jdm CTR, most likely the reason they didn't use the jdm ctr or itr due to the fact they would destroy the cr-z. the civic is also a stock car compared to the cr-z which has been moded from wheels, weight, power most likely 122whp, and knowing spoon body has been improved upon. also the cr-z has less power and weight meaning it could run the track basically going WOT while the civic could not.
acuradc5boy 1 year ago
@camberwear And like i said before spoon is just showing how only updating a suspension on a well balance car can get you in and out of corners well and also that hybrid cars like the crz with electric motor can make a great track car because max torque comes at 1k rpm unlike the FN2 at about 7k rpm... and yes this was a eco vs race car . tires and suspension does not turn a base car into a race car ... takes more then that
groundhabit 1 year ago
@camberwear my bad not 7k but around 5600k to 6k rpm for max torque on FN2 ... Pause the vid at 1:46 and READ!!!!!!!!!! thats what spoon is trying to show by upgrading the suspension and keeping everything else stock .... upgrading a suspension does not make the base model CR-Z a race car ... type-r's are known to be factory Honda race cars
groundhabit 1 year ago
The ep3 was a wicked car. Then honda went cheap and created the new civic-r. The older generation of civic is faster in straight line and on track.
I've lost faith in Honda.......
Blunder1248 1 year ago
@Blunder1248 I drive an F22B3 Engined Accord that revs to 6600rpm. Id be happy with an FN2.

they should STOP letting Europe make the CTRs. Maybe the usa should get a chance. Or to save money, they should just give the usa the same tools and parts and make the ctr here in the usa.

lol fn2 the ''racing car'' loool
lets get serious both cars are stupid where the f*k is the good old dc2 and ek9 THESE cars had racing dna s2000 was a sport car not crz !!
eco friendly and sport/racing are different things!

Try in a real circuit, no karts track.
BlairMV 1 year ago 2
@BlairMV spoons purpose for this is not to show who is faster in a straight line but who is better at cornering ... a kart track is perfect to show the two main things spoon is trying to show cornering and acceleration ... the kart tracks have lots of turns so it was perfect for that . and it shows that the crz can come out and accelerate out of corners better then any factory tuned car on the market by just upgrading suspension

the SPOON tune'd CRZ looks very stable, and easy to drive
