I love that picture of Robbie with the guitar. I think it was in the Closet Chronicle magazine as well. Didn't notice the naked guy. That's the most bizarre thing I've seen in a Kansas picture.
The picture of Robby was taken from the CC magazine so you nailed it. The pic with the naked guy came from the POKR tour program. I remember reading about stunts like that (one example was in the booklet from the 1994 Box set) but I was amazed at finding it in the tour program!
As always a great video, Rick! The live version of this song is one of my favorites. Is that really Robby playing guitar at 0:22? I didn't know he could play it :-)
Thanks Michael! Yes it's Robby and how often do you see that? It's not a stretch to think he could play guitar, the fingering on the neck probably translates. I imagine the picking is a different story. The first photo is weird! Kerry playing with a naked guy crossing the stage in a mask!
Right you are Paul.I was wondering when someone was going to say something about that picture! I mean how many pictures of Robby playing a guitar are there? This is the first I've ever seen! Now listen to the end of the song when Robby speaks and tell me what he says after "Child of Innocence, off our third album".
Me and my buds bought the Masque LP when it first hit the stores. We just kept looking at the cover and saying, this is a masterpiece prior to listening. And it was!
It must have been great to have buds who shared your love of Kansas. I couldn't find many people to join me in my obsession. My best friend would go to the shows with me but he wasn't a huge fan like myself!
That's Walsh! I never really liked it myself but it must have been hard for the sound man to put it in the background when there was only 2 singers. The parts are there on the album just along with other parts sung by Walsh and mixed way in the background.
Robby (he would thank you for spelling it right!) definitely had his moments. His unique harmonies blended perfectly with Walsh. I mean when you hear songs like Icarus you can't help but get goose bumps! His leads though were always up and down. A lot of times it seems like he's trying too hard. He got better as time went by!
If you haven't gathered from my previous posts, I'm a young (er) Kansas fan....wasn't around with the original band. Was always a lil ambivalent about Robby's vox, especially next to Walsh.....never heard the soul from him vocally that I heard from Walsh. He brought it on this one.
That's funny that you state your favorites that way because they have so many good songs that you almost have to expand it to top 50 instead of 5 or 10!
Underrated band, one of the most unrecognized early prog-rock bands.

That's Robby with a guitar in the beginning right? It sure looks like it. Badass recording by the way, I've always liked the rockitude in this song.

"In the image of those who have walked before me here, I am cast in the web of an ancient spell, I'm holding on to life, I'm drifting in the stream
everything's much clearer now,
we live within a dream and never wake!" Really good line and music!!
Thanks Rick! Masque is my second favorite album, and this song definately has something to do with that.

Robby was always a soulful singer, as Steve soared high above the stratosphere with his vocals.

One of the songs I had never heard them do "live," before. One of my top 50 favorite songs by Kansas.
