Maan.. I really hoped Kana Ueda could be the one voicing Rena instead of Eris... Well, Nana Mizuki's voice kinda matched Rena, so I can't complaint.. but i want more Kana... T.T

And agreed, this is an awesome game, I always loved second story more than FF7 or FF8.. I really am glad that this get a remake and translated as well..!!!

well your right you can catch pokemon but thats all youve gotta do in here in star ocean you aint not just gonna play you EXPLORE it there whole story each characters have side quest and so if you do this things you can know the REAL background of the character not like pokemon....you have to catch and win a battle and then thats all to boring already played it countless of times :] no offence

Just like FF7, the overworld map has a 360 degree view which is technically 3D, the difference being that FF7 has characters made of polygons where Star Ocean 1 & 2 used sprites. On that note you could say that Final Fantasy didn't become 3D until FFX, but that's another argument altogether.

The first Star Ocean was on the Super Nintendo, but only in Japan. For the PSP remake it was updated to look a lot more like this game. So this one that you missed is going to feel very familiar to the original game. Of course they're similar, but I don't know how much different they are. Lucky for you that you get to hear an all new English voice dub, the dubbing on the PS1 version of this game was... silly.

I remember picking this game up on a whim for the PSX ages ago and being surprised when I managed to spend a couple of hundred hours on it. Like Final Fantasy Tactics didn't already do that :(. This remake looks excellent, can't wait!

I'm not sure why I bought this game way back when. I think I was still in the buy every RPG in sight phase. But once I heard the music in Reina's town, I couldn't put it down.

Many of the Tri-Ace team members were made up of former Namco employees who worked on the Tales series. The similarities are there, but Star Ocean is always more enchanting to me.

Japanese people, god love 'em, have a tendancy to use a great deal of Western names in RPGs and Anime/Manga. The problem is that they don't really understand how these names are supposed to be spelled, and as they have a different alphabet, changing these Katakana into Roomaji (English letters) often has unfortunate results. Perhaps Japanese are afraid that if they learn too much English that they will lose their culture, but many native English speakers pronounce Japanese words just as poorly.

I'm playing the new PSP version of the first Star Ocean game, and it seems like you're right. This afternoon, I checked some kind of Star Ocean site that confirmed that Ilia Silvestri is indeed Claude's mother, hence the scene in Welch's ending.

These days especially I'm having trouble playing oldschool RPGs, Phantasy Star 1 in particular I found quite uninteresting, but I could say the same about Final Fantasy 1.

Phantasy Star 1 is a little bland. Phantasy Star 2 is Nintendo Hard and Phantasy Star 3 hurt me deeply. Phantasy Star 4 is where the series had its crowning moment. I would sell my kidneys to play Phantasy Star 4 in PSU's graphics. Whoa, updated Rune... *nosebleed*

Going to get this game soon, I own PS org. as well. I bought SO:blue sphere and the org. Snes Star Ocean. Going to have to buy Xbox 360for SO:last hope. Shame that last hope, is the final title in the Star Ocean series.(sigh)

I hadn't heard that, why would they end the series? I doubt that they can run their business off of only Valkyrie Profile and mediocrity like Radiata Stories & Infinite Undiscovery. Star Ocean even reaches greatest Hits staus in the US, and that's no feat to scoff at.

I have a few reasons for buying this game. It's one of my favorite RPGs of all time, with interesting characters, a unique setting and gorgeous music. Although it's a remake of a PS1 game, it's a welcome one since the original voice acting wasn't very enjoyable. Also, my PSP has been seriously lacking good games, so I welcome this with open arms as not just a solid RPG, but an above par gaming experience.

Pokemon as a game was a Dragon Quest clone with no plot and a forced collection element... Star Ocean is nothing like that. Yet it's ironic in that the upcoming 360 Star Ocean has younger characters and is in 3D, but may not have a mature story like these remakes have.

Pokemon is turn-based, Star Ocean can be considered an action/rpg. If you're talking about the attacks themselves, then you've pretty much pigeon-holed every Japanese adventure game in existence as being like Pokemon... no offense. But Star Ocean 1 & 2 came out before Pokemon, even in Japan.

It is a good idea, although the console choice is questionable. Never-the-less this is one of the best RPGs of all time imo. Yet the in-game music sounds a bit sampled, which worries me.
