On this date in 1969 {Mar. 1st} "You've Made Me So Very Happy" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it would peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} and spent 13 weeks in the Top 100...
Ranked 45th on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1969 chart.
Reached #35 on the U.K. Singles chart
Original version by co-writter Brenda Holloday {#39/1967}
1st in a string of three straight #2 records by the group; first this one, then "Spinning Wheel", and finally "And When I Die", all in 1969.
I never found out 'til years later that they quote their version of Tim Buckley's "Morning Glory" off their debut LP at the end. Was that meant as a thumb to nose at Al Kooper?
Unbelievable vocals from this man. I've had this song in my head for the past three days, and I'm happy to have it here. Amazing song, amazing band, and a vocalist with a golden voice.
BS&T might have made it on Al Kooper's terms if progressive radio wasn't just getting off the ground at the time. There are some who stand by some of the albums made after their hit making period. Even if they are buried treasure, and I love discovering stuff like that, fhe same thing happened as happened to Chicago, losing their hip cred. Hey, imagine if Robert Palmer, who made his bread digging stuff up, came across anything good.
Thank you so much for posting this ´historic´ film ! It just proves how superb they were, and you still stand in awe 40 years later. They really made fantastic music at that time !
This line-up was once accused of being "too precise" in their playing of music. Clayton-Thomas' reply is pretty much what I would have said: "Hey, these guys all went to Juliard; you expect them to play like shit?" or words to that effect. A truly great band exploring territory that in toto made the music of that era so much more interesting than today
funny all this time I thought this song was by Tom Jones. Now I look under Blood sweat & tears and found all these hits they did. funky blue eye soul man. sigh.. does anyone have a time machine I can borrow for a few years??
What a gift YouTube is. And what about those mutton chops he's got going there? Awesome. Where are they today? Stephen Stills, Neil Young, D-C Thomas, cool as hell. And what a singer. Wow.
Wow cool. I was a music major at University of Maine at Augusta and one of my professors was Chuck Winfield. One of the trumpet players of BS&T! Awesome musician and a funny guy!
Wow, fantastic post! Thanks so much for this. BS&T came to define much of what was so good about music in the 70's. David Clayton Thomas had one of the best and most distinctive voices ever!
I love this band . I saw them them in Hawaii around 1970, and was particularly blown away by Lew Soloff's trumpet playing. He was awesome. He could really nail those high notes. I was playing trumpet in my high school stage band back then, and got to solo alot. Always wished I could play like him! The rest of the band was great, too.

3 great ballads were released in 1969: "Something" by The Beatles, "Traces" by Classics IV, and BS&T's "You've Made Me So Very Happy".
