B747s will ALWAYS rule the sky.I am a BIG boeing fan and especially of the MIGHTY 747.Long may they continue to reign. The 747 will NEVER be surpassed by the a380
@Starboard76 Ok I tried searching for this song on google and could not find a single site that would let me download it. Maybe my antivirus program is blocking the websites that would let me download it.
Such a short period of time between the debut of the 707 and being surpassed by the 747. And more than 30 years before the 747 was surpassed by the A380!
I'm quite happy my first 747 flight was with Pan Am - was upgraded to business - yay! - sat next to a Texan complete with cowboy boots & cowboy hat - he kept ordering me Bloody Marys.........
It was the Pan Am captain smoking a cigarette. That would have been in the early 1970's. I flew on a Pan Am 747 in 1973 and while waiting at the gate, I could see the captain in the cockpit smoking a cigarette
@EAMR262 ..it took me forever to find that piece! I just have a few seconds where it's holding for a gate at CDG it's sort of frontal view. If there's more out there anywhere..I'll find it...or do my best.
@EAMR262 ..yeah and look how long it took me to find this..! That is unimaginable that they flew them for nearly 20 years and no one bothered to record one of the the most colorful 747s ever. I started to record in 1997..so I missed them by 3 years, they would have been on the top of my list. I've plenty photos - which bothers me even more because looking back .. it was a waste of time..everyone has photos! There is one source for sure with some great footage - Colombian TV news!
@Starboard76 I've been checking, and besides the footage from the crashed jumbo in Spain, I only found one old commercial with a 747 taking off, the rest shows its replacement, the 767 (which they also refereed as jumbo at the time). Strangely, I also found a lot of footage of their 727 (retired in the late 90s).
@EAMR262 ..yeah I've seen the commercial video you're speaking of. I have not seen the 727s ..is it own youtube? If you're in Colombia, you might want contact the publicity dept of any station and express preserving Avianca history, also Avianca's own PR department certainly has footage of their 1st 747 operations...it's worth a shot!
@Starboard76 Yep, there are about 4 videos of Avianca's 727, plus compilations of old footage of El Dorado airport, where you can see them along with many other Colombian carriers long gone.
Indeed it is! I will see what I can find.
Anyway, when can we expect that little piece of footage you told me earlier? Oh, and by the way, you don't have any footage of Avianca's MD-11? Its the rarest plane between Colombian carriers!
@EAMR262 ,,hmmmm an Avianca MD11.. that and the China Airlines DC-10 (was never delivered..but painted) has got to the rarest period! I bet no one has either of those in video...people 'were 'picture-minded' back then.
The added AV footage will appear when I complete this 747 project, no ETA yet.
@Starboard76 Well, at least pictures of the MD can be easily found, but the DC, wow, nothing! I found pictures after it was re-sold though(its still flying!). Maybe the problem is that back then recorder were pretty expensive?
Anyway, I will be expecting that video, meanwhile, I'm going to enjoy the rest of your works!
@Starboard76...Great Choice of music for this video. The music is perfect for this majestic airplane. Your other 747 video also had fantastic music. I can't wait to fly the new B747-8i. Keep Up the good work and thanks for keeping memories of this great airplane alive.
@krisworld1 ..hey thanks! Glad you enjoyed it..unfortunately I think a Boeing 707 video I'm about to release wil be out before I release the finished version of this baby. But when I'n done, this one will be very impressive.
@Starboard76 .. The B707 was the first passenger jet I ever flew. There is nothing that compares to the sound of the B707 engines roaring at take-off. Loved the airplane. A Classic!!! Look forward to the 707 Video.I'm sure it will impress..as all of your Videos have done.
This is one of my favorite videos to watch on YouTube. The 747 is still the Queen of the skies. Her reign is over 40 years long & with the 747-8i she still rules. Thanks for your long hours of work putting this together. It's much appreciated.
How were you able to catch the RJ 747? any Kai Tak approaches with 747? Not that it is the only one but at 10:29 is just an amazing shot.. Any people Express 747?
@compdude100 .. you are right to ask, I've been distracted by more pressing matters. But I hope to have it together in the next few weeks. Sorry for the delay!
Wow, great video! 747 is my favorite plane. I have some aviation and spotting videos in my channel much of them recorded in Barcelona Airport (Spain), but this summer I'll do some spotting in New York JFK, Phoenix Sky Harbor Intl Airport. I subscribed you! Please subscribe me back and add my channel into your suggestions, I added yours!
I am nostalgic for many of them, from the Clipper Ship boat planes of the 30's, the Boeing 314, the Boeing Stratocruiser to the DC series, Boeing 707 & the widebodies of the 70's - the L1011 & DC 10. I even admire the Airbus 380. However, the classiest dame of all has & I think will always be Boeing's 747. Great video! My only suggestion would be adding interior shots or maybe that could be "part 2". Thanks for uploading & keeping the "Jumbo Jet" spirit alive.
The scene of the Pan Am crew descending the stairs from a Delta 747 (at point 8.08), is a rare sight indeed. Must have been filmed somewhere during the Pan Am/Delta interchange flights. The routing was ATL-IAD-LHR. All of this was way before Delta started their own transatlantic flying.
@Shrimpo7 ..very good eye! I didn't even notice the Pan Am FA uniforms and now I noticed the stair truck is also Pan Am too. But ay 8:08 is just a taxiing Delta 747, near end at 14:45, the crew deplanes.
wow, wow, wow, and finally wow. this looks like it has taken a lot of effort and I commend you on a great "preview." Hell I wouldn't even care if this was the final. It has great content, but while normally I'm not a fan of the club scene, this soundtrack is incredibly fitting.
@vanhalo Thank you! It's good to hear from someone who can appreciate just how much time & effort goes into creating something like this. Thanks again.
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to do this.. the final right now is over 4 hours long, I've gotta trim it down to 4 - 15 min clips...and it is truly agonizing at cutting up some of my favorite scenes. This is why it's taking awhile, plus some footage needs to 'worked' on individually to be made presentable.
I can not wait to see the series - great preview! I made note of "ANA" what airline was that?? Asian?? From what I could tell from the footage, ANA were around in the '80's - is this true???
@landman1973 thanks, yes Asian... ANA is All Nippon Airways of Japan. It's the largest airline (domestically) in Japan which has grown internationally as well - challenging a weakened Japan Air Lines. And quite colorful as you can see.
@Starboard76 I have another question for you - Flying Tiger Airways, was that American carrier, and by the video I assume they were around in the '70s. Also, I know there's various cenarios, but what would by the typical take off speed of a 747 heavy? I am thinking 180mph. Cheers!
@landman1973, yes Flying Tigers was an American carrier. It was absorbed into Federal Express. It was started by the late Gen. Claire Chennalt, he was the leader of a renegade band of US war pilots to gave the Japanese hell fighting 'guerilla style' in Southern China, Burma and other parts of Southeast Asia. They took on jobs the US military was not in a position to take on. They contributed greatly to the Allied war effort in WWII.
As for 747 takeoff speed, you're right in the ball park.
@Starboard76 Thnaks for the info, its much appreciated! another question for you...I know 400 series carries approx. 63,000 gallons of fuel, with that in mind, and taking into consideration that its heavy would use approx. 10,000 feet of runway (I think?) and that take off speed is approx 170 knots, give or take 10 either way, but I don't know how fuel it burns on take off. Any idea? I am taking a wild guess here and think its 5,000 - 10,000 gallons? -- Cheers!
@landman1973 ok, that one is way out of my league of expertise, landman1973. The heaviest 747 roll I've ever seen .. probably ate up 8000 ft at 'sea level' LAX on 25L. As for takeoff consumption..I'd pose that question on airliners net in their tech forum...I certain on eof those guys will have a dead on answer within 20 minutes of you posting it. Knowing me, I'd look at the cost of that much fuel and then turn..get a headache!
