  • Contrasts: Edward VIII & Edward, Duke of Kent (E.VIII’s great grandfather ).

    E. DofK separated from his love, M. St. Laurent, to marry and have a child (Q. Victoria ).

E.VIII, abdicated the English throne to marry his love, Wallis Simpson.

    E. DoK restored the Gibraltar Colony in 1803, but was criticized.

    E. VII was criticized for abdication, but perhaps he intended to deceive Hitler and position himself to moderate harsh subjugation of England if America remained neutral, and Germany won?

  • @bcpii

If the Duke of Windsor had a secret plan to become regent in the event of the UK's surrender to the Nazis, in the belief that he could influence his chum Adolf, I'd point out the example of Leopold III of Belgium: already unpopular by his second marriage (shades of Wallis!), when he refused to evacuate to the UK and ordered his army's surrrender he was commonly regarded as a collaborator (yet he was virtually ignored by Hitler), and was eventually forced to abdicate.

  • Love her..

  • The Brion kings do not have good taste of women. Edward VIII until Prince Charles hahaha! They can not smell good and taste good. They only like... third or 4th hand dillapidated things...even women.

  • LOL All this talk of "royal" duty is so funny.

  • @Discoboy504

HAHA you seem to be funny but you are stupid..

    Halts Maul, sei still

ich geh heim wann ich will!

  • Ihre Knochen werden sollten ausgegraben und verstreut in den Wind von Raben

  • @kimokaker

    Du bist echt krank!

  • @kimokaker

You´ll die quite soon and that´s what will happen to you. Gone with the wind...

  • @kimokaker

    Damned fool!!!

  • @kimokaker

After your death you will be forgotten but the Duke and Duchess will live on and on and on..HAHA

Nobody will care for you, poor creature..

  • @kimokaker

The likes of you who are saying that dead human beings are garbage should burn in hell!

  • Wallis was the greatest gold digger of the 20th century. But she found out getting the 'prize' was not all what it was worth. The joke was on her.

  • Anyone who is insulting the late Duke and Duchess of Windsor is garbage and an ignorant fool.

  • Join the Duke and Duchess of Windsor Historical Society!!!!

  • Thank goodness Edward abdicated for Wallis--otherwise the English would be serving strudel instead of tea right now.

  • @windstorm1000

I don´t think so. The Windsors had no children and so the present Queen would also be queen today.

  • She had a special flair, the ability to make the sole of an old boot look good. He, in every picture or bit of film, looks as though he's just been slapped. They were venomous cretins.

  • @kimokaker

I love both of them. Wonderful people..

  • @vonFalkenstein77 You must be joking. The Windsors were the most selfish couple of the 20th century--Churchill said they were 'pathetic'. Undeniably they were one of the most stylish--that I grant you. The Duke did invent the Windsor knot afterall--THAT was useful. But the rest???

  • @windstorm1000

    I am not joking.

By the way, Churchill liked the Duke and tried to help. Did you ever watch "Edward and Mrs. Simpson" with Edward Fox?

  • What a wonderful woman..

  • What un UGLY women.

  • @cordoovab

Well she had style and she wore ladies gloves..I love her styling and she was pretty.

"You've either got or you haven't got style" The Duchess got it, I´m sure you don´t.

  • Excellent collection of pics. Thanks!

  • There's a lot about Edward that lay in the secret of his marriage with Wallace Simpson that we will never know. I suspect that having abandoned his duty for her sake (and whatever motivated that), he has made his bed and he was determined to lay in it to the end of his days. To have done anything else would have made his abdication cheap and meaningless. The only noble reason could be that he surrendered all that for the sake of love. That had to be the story to give his life any meaning.

  • Great song! Terrific video. I think Edward was a dim bulb who was manipulated by a much smarter woman. Then she found she was stuck with him because she couldn't divorce him after he'd left the throne for her. Karma is a bitch.

  • look at the nazi bitch..what a fucking spy for nazi's .. and look at the traitor next to her.. he should have been killed by firing squad for the information he gave hitler...fuck them both!

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She was a tall, charming, intelligent, seductive enchantress who captivated the man with her witty brilliance. The brunette wore clothes like an elegant Parisian model...spoke eloquantly and was gracious to all...and only Edward knows what other talents she possessed. They are a magical love story and this was a great song to captivate such passion and devotion! MERCI ~

  • @Taharah007 They were garbage.

  • @kimokaker

Du bist ein Stück Dreck , eine totale Null und nichts weiter!

Ewig währt der Toten Taten Ruhm!

  • Mrs Simpson was so ugly, even make-up could not help her!!!! Edward left

his kingdom because of her, my goodniss!!

  • Why the British people tolerate such crooks and why Edward wasnt hanged for treason amazes me .

Great music for the video tho!

  • Fabulous ! Ingenious and witty fun !

  • Who sings this song?

  • the man who would be king. a good german saxe-coburg gotha.

  • Leave it to the men of the British Royal House. They insisted on confusing the horse for their women. Charles and Edward had the same problem, you don't marry the donkey.

  • My daughter and son in law are looking at a house that she grew up in

  • Great song for two of the great airheads of history!

  • Ooooooh! A picture is worth a thousand words. Love the scene at 2:06 ... looks like HRH QE II does not approve and Edward shows his shame. I believe QE blamed Edward for her father's death. Seems the stress of having to take the reigns after Edward's abdication was too much for him.

  • The Duchess must have been a very fascinating woman, great video, great song...

I wish I had met the Windsors..

  • I don't think the world will ever know a more elegant woman.

    She was absolutely sensational.

  • He gave up the throne for this. Two words "BOW-WOW".

  • Some people suspect that Wallis Simpson may have been a hermaphrodite, that she was born with AIS, Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. If it's true, then she was infertile and even if she'd been socially acceptable to the Royals, she would never have produced an heir (assuming she was still at childbearing age).

  • A feckless, selfish, untrustworthy unintelligent man of high station meets an intelligent, manipulative, social climbing, and amoral scrumper of low station . . . . .

  • As Queen Mary said when she heard Edward's abdication speech, "to give up all this for a woman of no imporance."

  • @mc0558

You´ve never been in love, have you?

Queen Mary was right what she said but there´s something more than duty in life..

  • @vonFalkenstein77 I've not only been in love. I am in love and have been so all my adult life. But my love never put me in juxtaposition to my duty. I am a man of duty to my family and my community. Cearly there was something very disturbed about Edward's sexual orientation. Wallace was not young; she was not a beauty; she abused and humiliated him in public; she was a spoiled bitch; and still he was devoted to her. What did she have that made him willing to be her slave? That's the question.

  • @mc0558

What do you know about Edwards sexual orientation. Did you live with them? That´s not our business. How on earth can you talk about the Duchess of Windsor that way? Remember ,she is dead now. I know what love can do to a man. I understand it, you don´t obviously.

  • @vonFalkenstein77 I know the reports that come from Magdelene College during the brief period he was there. I know that he never once had a relationship with a single, eligible girl. I know he produced no children, legitimate or illegitimate.

As for my comments about the Duchess, she had the humility to speek very honestly about herself, and I only repeated what she said.Regarding, "what love can do to a man", LOVE can only raise him up, make him joyful and self-confident. The rest is not love!

  • @vonFalkenstein77 - Please excuse me, but I feel the need to be coarse and inflammatory in light of your self-righteous spluttering: I heard he wore a ball gag while she sodomized him with a large strap-on. That's what love can do to some men. He was, by many accounts, a massively self-absorbed little prig, weak and with a face like a stain. She was a predatory sociopathic narcissist with delusions of grandeur, and abominally unaesthetic. Together, they were a fucking blight on history.

  • @kimokaker

Please excuse me but In my opinion you are sick. I love the Windsors and Princess Margaret as well...

I don´t care nor believe what you are saying ..it´s not worthy..

  • @vonFalkenstein77 They were dangerous dilettantes with a monstrously overblown sense of entitlement, and Nazi sympathizers and apologists. He apparently, in a note to Hitler, expressed the idea that England would surrender with continued heavy bombing. They both froliced and cavorted with fascists and criminals in Germany and in Spain. They were, in short, shit. He was a traitor to the realm. Too bad he couldn't die twice. You should shake the stars out of your eyes.

  • @kimokaker

They were great personalities and the Duchess was a pretty woman, one of the best-dressed ladies ever.

YOU should shake the stars out of your eyes. Anti-German feelings are out of date now..

  • @kimokaker

    YOU are shit...

  • @vonFalkenstein77 Oh come now dear. I didn't stoop to personal insults. I didn't call you a shallow deluded celebrity-obsessed meat-stick. Oh I guess I just did. Anyhow, run along and let the adults talk.

  • @kimokaker

Well you are insulting the late Duke and Duchess of Windsor. You can´t insult me because you are just a poor creature..

  • @kimokaker

You are insulting the late Duke and Duchess of Windsor, they can not reply but I can..

  • @kimokaker You are spot on with your views of the Windsors--Churchill said they were 'worthless'.

  • @windstorm1000

By the way Winston Churchill was a drunkard.

  • @vonFalkenstein77 That I grant you. But many drunkards in history DID THEIR DUTY (ie Roosevelt) & defended their country. No one did that more than Sir W. In response to your other comment, yes, Winston did support the Duke--he actually encouraged him to lock himself up in Belve. Castle, show himself to his people & NOT to abdicate. Unfortunately, The Duke chose not to do this. Churchill famously said "Our cock won't crow". Later, C. turned his back on the W.'s because of their Nazi sym.'s.

  • @mc0558

    Die Weltgeschichte scheißt auf dich...

    Sie liebten sich..

They loved each other. Who are you to compare Royal duty with love? He gave up "all that "for the woman he loved. What´s your problem, amigo? Shame on you! Queen Mary was an old-fashioned lady by 1936.

Diana Spencer was a shame for everything Britain used to stood for and what a terrible shame it was how the British treated their great Queen after the death of that lady in 1997.

    Shame on you British people!

  • @grandimusicisti Look! The Church of England, of which the monarch is Supreme Governor, does not accept divorce and remarriage. It was not possible for the King to marry such a person. He gave up the crown because he refused to do his duty--marry a lady acceptable to the Church and people and produce an heir or two. What is the difference between him refusing to do his duty and the millions who went to the front in the Great War refusing to do their duty? Betrayal of duty was and is shameful!

  • @mc0558

Don´t forget that The Church of England was created because a certain King wanted to remarry. By the way now it is allowed. Prince Charles married a divorced Camilla.

Love is NEVER a shame as it ist the greatest thing in life.

  • @grandimusicisti Charles married in a registrary office, not a Church. I personally think it very unlikely that he will ever be King. I have no idea what hte future will hold--Charles has even suggested ht does not wish to be Governor of the Church of England. Whether he can pick and choose his title is uncertain. So far, it's been all or nothng. But in Edward VIII's day, the duties and responsibility of King-Emperor were clear, and he chose to disregard them. He chose WS; he abdicated; GOOD!

  • @mc0558

But there was a blessing done by the Church of England. I always thought that Christian marriage is indissolubly and what about the remarriage of The Princess Royal. Christian faith itself is not reliable as anyone can see. People are right if they don´t go to Church anymore.

  • @vonFalkenstein77 Yes there was a blessing--a blessing of what and of whom, I am not sure. You want a blessing? I send it to you! Regarding your criticisms of the Christian churches, it is hard to know what to think. But I agree with you the paedophile crap is cynicism and hypocrisy of a very high order.

  • @mc0558

Yes, hypocrisy and religion that´s what I´m talking about. All the Christian churches and confessions have been fooling us for decades and centurys..

Edwar VIII had to go, Princess Margaret ended up as tippling princess as she was not allowed to marry Peter Townsend..and Prince Charles and Princess Anne for emxample were allowed to remarry a few decades later. How terrible..

Stay away from Church, that´s all I can say!

  • There is so much that we will never know. Thanks for this, it is just another very colourful part of the puzzle.

  • Thank you, a very enlightening song with such wonderful portrayal of true love ... willing to abdicate for the love of a woman ...

  • Wallis Simpson gives new meaning to the word ugly.

The Duke of Windsor was classy from birth until death.

  • Unclassified letters show she was a Spy.. wonder how she felt after she (inevitably) learned about how cruel Hitler was, and how he used her and Edward.. promising to reinstate them as King and Queen when he (Hitler) conquered England.

  • @cushing1961 People say all kinds of things, e.g., that Edward means to concentrate the government of the UK on himself. Some people misjudged Stalin; others, Hitler. I agree that there is something fishy about they daliance in Spain and Portugal in 1940 and some of their "friends" at that time. BUT his behavior during the abdication WAS constitutional, and I doubt he had he guts to be an out-and-out traitor.

  • @cushing1961 I find it very difficult to believe that a King of England, even an ex-King, would turn into an out and out traitor! Edward would have known what the limits of his dealings with Hitler could be, and I doubt very much that he exceeded them during this disastrous visit. The period that is more questionable is what he was doing or saying during his soujourn in Spain and Portugal in 1940.

  • and yet the dossier of German, English and American governments on them all agree that they were in fact siding with Hitler, and that Germany had "promised" to reinstate Edward "when" he was back in German controlled England. .. the papers are public record. You can deny me, but you can't deny the papers that are now part of documentaries and books and are part of history forever.

  • @cushing1961 These German documents do NOT say that Hitler promised to restore Edward to the throne. They only say that they would do so once they had beaten us. Firstlyl, even they knew that was unlikely, and secondly whatever they were promising themselves that does not mean that the Duke had any part in it. Any English aristocrat visiting Hitler in those days was viewed as a Nazi sympathizer. The extent to which he was at that moment in time is pure speculation. But, a fool he certainly was.

  • @cushing1961 Unclassified documents = Wow! That makes it official then.

  • He was a traitor for choosing a women over his people, a traitor for choosing a commoner over that of the Royal houses of Europe, a traitor for regards towards the Nazis in WWII and a traitor working against his brother the King. We do have one thing to thank him for and that is if he did not abdicate the we would not have the glorious Queen Elizabeth we have now.

  • Unless he produced a legitimate heir of his own, Elizabeth would have ascended even if Edward remained on the throne. Still, it must have been difficult to be one-half of a world famous love story particularly as she did not seem to love him as he loved her. Water over the dam, as they say.

  • My Idol

  • Thank you for this video - I find it wonderful.

  • Thank you

  • Wallis Simpson was merely a substitute "mother" to the former King Edward VIII (aka David, Duke of Windsor. Wallis Simpson treated him like a naughty schoolboy most of the time and she well and truly dominated him in a way only an ouspoken, over loud, over pushy, over whelmingly in your-in-your face virago of an American woman could. It really was a mother/boy relationship as Edward/David's real mother was a cold fish, remote and distant and totally incapable of a mother's proper affection.

  • Great video! Music, words, and photos perfectly matched!

My cousin's husband's father, a musician, once played for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. His son, (my cousin's husband), told me that his dad told him that the Duke of Windsor was natural and friendly....but the Duchess of Windsor was the one who was stuffy!

  • This music is, originally, from the argentinian tango "El choclo" ("The corn cob"), music by Angel Villoldo and three different texts by Villoldo, Marambio Catán and Enrique Santos Discepolo. This last text was the more famous, starting with the phrase: "Con este tango que es burlón y compadrito, se ató dos alas la ambición de mi suburbio". It was first performed in Buenos Aires in 1903.

  • Delightful. You my dear lady have a great taste in music (just like mine). Now if only I were a few years younger and you lived in England.

  • Many thanks again Princess for your kind words, as you may know romance is never easy, best wishes Joans20thcentury
