  • We NEED to go to Mars NOW. I don't care what anyone says.

  • I see ancient greek buildings in the purple grass at 01:57. Look closely :)

  • I had the same type of dreams like Carl repeatedly when I was a kid. "...achieving flight required a certain cast of mind. It's impossible to describe it in words, but I can remember what it was like to this day..." :)

  • @gskowal

Me too! And I sometimes still get those but the mental state required has become harder and harder to achieve. As a kid I was able to alter dreams in other ways too by simply willing change but that too has become harder. It is as if my adult brain has become too rigid, too reasonable for it :(.

  • @omegavalerius , these days I barely remember my dreams :)

  • how come i've never heard about carl sagan until over a decade after his death, why had nobody told me about him when i was younger?

  • 1 dislike..Ohh God, ur such a jokester!!!

  • YES, YES, and YES. space exploration is essential for a stimulation of science for the new generations. "People everywhere hunger to understand." -Sagan

  • those look like migs not f-14's....lol jk Great video...i love these...hopefully i will show my children these one day.

  • 883 likes to 0 likes is the best proportion I've ever seen on youtub

    now 884

  • I love how Carl Sagan videos are just an insular bubble from the rest of youtube. There's no arguments, dislikes or petty name-calling. Just pure appreciation.

  • Zero dislikes for Carl Sagan!

  • 7:13 that guy was at my 7-11 this morning

  • I've played Kerbal Space Program, and I know for a fact that the design in the first segment of this video would not get off the ground. The phallic shape of it would tear it to pieces against the atmosphere.

  • This is the only video that has close to a thousand likes and no dislikes.

  • I have all of the respect in the world for Mr. Sagan and you callum for making these videos; but I have to say 1:18 looks like a film set to me.

  • Did everyone else have that dream too?

  • Chills. Some Tears.

    I love the human race.

  • Wow, what a great video. I cried at the beauty of it.

  • Even though that clip is beautiful, i have to point out those werent F-14 but

    MIRAGE 2000

  • Both the quality of the video, the content and the music are quite amazing. Good work.

  • Thank you Carl Sagan you changed my life even after death

  • I've had that dream many times, however to get started I had to dogie paddle.....Then I would slowly go up until i could move freely. Think of how those jets were moving and thats what I did, and I wish I could really do that. We need to bring Carl Sagan back, lets go back in time in another universe cose to ours, and snatch their Carl Sagan! 0.o;

  • 0 dislikes? wow so amazing even trolls can't bring themselves to down thumb it

  • These are amazing videos, thank you so much for taking the time to make them.

  • I love getting dreams of flying, everything Carl says about is just spot on.

  • I think this might be the best one yet. :)

  • Whenever I watch any of these, it brings a tear to my eye. They remind me that there really is beauty in the world, and that not all things are doom, gloom, and misery. Sagan put it beautifully once before; we humans are capable of greatness.

Whatever it is about Sagan that made him so charismatic, so capable of reaching so many, I hope that this generation has its own. Science needs its poets. The world needs them.

  • @t0mwidd

Well, Brian Cox does repeatedly count Sagan as his personal inspiration.

  • Kind of goes of the rails, visually speaking, at 6:50 - 7:16.

  • That moment with the New Guineas was the best moment out of any of these speeches with Carl Sagan so far.

  • I am so proud that as of the time I liked this video when it has 9,538 views and 741 likes, there is not a single dislike. Some of the other sites I go to, have an anti-spam algorithm that puts dislikes even on eminently popular videos. This is just a well loved and deservedly so video.

I wish Dr. Carl Sagan was still with us. He did so much for the exploration of space, without (to my basic google search abilities) ever being able to get there himself.

  • @Nomad61900 He never went to space but he help many mission like the Voyagers one of human's greatest achievements

  • Incredible.

  • he actually quotes Bertrand Russell? the psycho? wow Mr. Sagan.

  • 662 likes, 0 dislikes

  • I cried :'-) ... This is just beautiful....

  • O How our society could use a man like Dr. Sagan today.

  • Is someone cutting onions here? O.O

  • this made me tear up :D

  • I wonder: how did they answer the new guinians? Did she look away and say "Nobody now" could they articulate to the new guinians that it was the mess that is modern politics that stopped further exploration of the moon? I wonder, what would they have said if we answered that it was because of politics that we never went back? I for one, would not have been able to look them in the face without feeling a little shame that we never went back

  • Great work, Callum!

  • "...but they knew about Apollo 11." Such a wonderful description of just how profound a moment that was for our species.

  • This series has moved me so deeply. Thank you so much!

  • amazing as always . beautiful music also :) 10/10

  • super.. super.. super!

  • Beautiful and inspiring. What else can you say.

  • Wait, there are no dislikes. I can't make one of those dumb jokes!

  • thank you.

  • All TV needs to stop one day for this entire series to be played. Then all TV must be turned off. Imagine our capabilities without TV screens ruling our life.

RIP Carl Sagan, one of the greatest human beings to grace the earth.

  • This almost always reduces me to tears, but in a good way : )

  • wonderful

  • WOW! Awesome job Callum, Simply awesome!

  • inspirational series, it's so calming to hear his voice with this musical background and images. thanks for making these videos and sharing the beauty of it, Callum.

  • :)

  • One of the most important things for the youth of humanity, & ALL forthcoming generations, is to hear & feel the words of Carl Sagan. No one has ever brought a more humbling & awe inspiring perspective of reality, to the thought of the common man. If aliens are to ever receive communications from earth, I hope Sagan's words are what they hear.

  • I love seeing people write great comments about videos like this one. what I like even more is seeing how popular those comments become when other people give it a thumbs up. It lets me know that there are in fact many people on youtube who dont give LYING FUCK about Rihanna's latest music video or the trailer to the new twilight movie.

R.I.P Carl Sagan- easily one of the most inspirational men in science.

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, I really appreciate your hard work !

  • Awesome series!!

  • ...and we know how to get there!

  • this is beautiful, perhaps because i (there must be others, too) think alike, if not the same

    great job callum

    this is awe

  • @brownspaceman: French mirages. More maneuverable, and the footage was like 2 fish swimming though water. That's why he used it.

  • *DAT VOICE*

  • I LOVE this video, but my OCD has gotten the best of me... those jets aren't F-14's

  • that was absolutely wonderful

  • Please clone yourself Callum. The world needs many more just like you. You inspire and give us hope for a better tomorrow. Thankyou.

  • Damn it... this is so inspirational. Thanks dude. Good work, good work,Good work, good work,Good work, good work,.... I wish I could keep saying it. :)

  • Today i was off of work and decided to watch the entire cosmos series again for shits and giggles. Then I found you today. Subbed, gonna start from the beginning. Thanks for the effort, this was poignant and beautiful.

  • bravo yet again

  • @d3st88 No lol i get why we might not detect their radio waves or communications but they would most likely be ALL OVER the galaxy and even other galaxies and i mean even if it were one single civilization that advanced millions of years before us. I only say this because of exponential growth of technology, it seems that humans, given half a millions years, could accomplish spreading through the entire galaxy and even others...... But im open for ideas.. I want a galactic alliance!! xD

  • Brilliant as always.

I am lost for words, but also inspired.

  • thank you callum :)

  • One of your best! Good job.

  • Brilliant!

  • You can all be astronoughts, I'm staying here where there's dirt and air, two things I love very much.

  • Yay! another one! thanks callum. I have the whole series on my iphone and I love being able to listen to carl sagan wherever I go. cheers bro.

  • Out of curiosity, how many people can honestly say they've had the dream Carl Sagan describes?

When he described the dream, and the experience of lifting away from solid ground through the exertion of some indescribable portion of will alone, I can recall having that *exact* dream, numerous times. I even recall the knowledge that I must concentrate, in order to avoid the plummet back to Earth - and the rare times I lost that command over gravity, only to regain it only inches above the ground

  • @ferrett78

My most fascinating dreams - aside from the steamy sex dreams! lol - are the ones I discovered I could fly. In some of them I was even semi-lucid.

  • you know.....I am a proud guy that rarely cries at anything.

This is one thing that I do cry at......in happiness and profoundness at what we can do if we only bounded together.

  • I really am wondering about all that i thought was true..... All the evidence points at life being possible on many other planets but what if we truly are the only intelligence in our galaxy.... I have read almost all of Carl Sagans books and I credit him to being the person who makes me want to be something someday but where are the aliens or their radio waves... where are all the Dyson spheres and stuff like that? I desperately want there to be other intelligence out there.

  • @shankerman10

Carl also asks the where are the aliens or their radio waves question in his books and he answers them too. If I remember correctly it is mentioned in Pale Blue Dot and Cosmos. To be honest, if I were an alien I would want nothing to do with humanity. We are a savage, stupid, backward race - we mistreat our fellow human beings and our ecosystem, we are illogical, willfully ignorant and most humans make me sick. There's hope for us though, as Sagan often reminds me.
