@dragonnight812 In part #1 he uses a layout that says the deck is 16’ x 16’, although when you are building a deck you’ll have to design yours to meet your needs.
I like to use ring-shank nails, that resist backing out. Of course, a screw here and there is nice. With the bendability and cheapness and ease of driving nails, plus a few screws for a tight hold, you can't go wrong. Keep in mind that if you plan on expanding the deck in a year or two when you can save the money, use screws only: Much easier to disassemble one end for expansion if you used screws.
before purchasing your materials contact or read all specs on what type of fastners used for the materials use on project. decks can last a lifetime if done correctly
when marking for 16 on center using a stock that is 1 1/2" thick as shown in the video u should actually mark at 15 1/4 so that the center of the joist is at the actualy 16" :P o and it is also important to crown the joist witch would be determining the "curve" or "bow" in the wood and you want 2 make then face all the same way preferably with the crown up
Nails are stronger than scroes and when it is time to take apart the deck demo is much easier on a deck built with nails. Nails for everything underneath the deck and scroes for the top planks only.
Screws are not recommended for corner brackets or hurricane ties, they don't have enough sheer strength. Only use the nails recommended by the bracket manufacturer.
@ballsniff13 You would wonder how tight nails are compared to screws. Nails never break and the price of nails is 10% of screws :) This matters as soon as you have to deal with 2000 or more pieces.
Why you don't cover the beams with concrete cement to the level of the solid?

screws break when twisted and bent. nails will just bend. always use nails for this kind of thing.

Why use joist hangers on the rim joist if it's not a ledger board that bears much of the weight?

If code was to measure every 16 inches on center, why did you make an X for the beam to be to the right of the center mark?

For fastening, screws are stronger than nails. They can be removed with less damage to the material (especially wood) than nails.

So you're saying build with nails so it's easier to demo? that makes no sense.

Yes I wonder what the motivation for the nails is.
Apart from not being able to reach with a screwdrivah

@ballsniff13 bend a screw - it break. now bend a nail, it bend over and over. Nails have higher shear values.... and stuff.
