  • The Announcer is Johnny Gilbert.

  • I remembered Dick Enberg was the play-by-play announcer for NBC's coverage of the NBA before they replaced him with Marv "Yesssss!" Albert.

  • @SimplyKevTVmarv took off the female apparell and got back to work!

  • At the time this aired, wonder what Blackhawks fans thought of Bobby Hull. At the time, Bobby Hull was playing for the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association, and it angered the team a lot. He signed for $1 million, and that was just his signing bonus, quite a bit for 1972. It was his WHA signing that paved way for other NHL superstars of the time, including Gordie Howe and Frank Mahovolich.

  • Frank Gifford of the New York Giants married to TV Personality Kathie Lee Gifford since 1986.

  • So why did the Giants get 20 points on the steal of the free throw at 9:02?

  • because the Blackhawks missed a question and on the free throw's if a team misses a question, the other team gets to answer the question for double points.

  • I had found out the answer in the interim and posted the information on Wikipedia from watching other episodes on ESPN Classic. (which have gone now, it appears)

  • Sports Challenge was also the most disorganized sports trivia show ever, it always seemed like the players didn't know the rules and that Enberg didn't seem to know what was going on at times either.

  • I've been watching reruns on ESPN Classic and I can't stand how much Dick Enberg GUSHES over the athletes on the show...he's like a speechless 10 year old kid wanting an autograph

  • He probably had to patronize them somehow.

  • He's the long-time award-winning voice of the Rams (NFL) and the Angels (MLB).

  • To answer your question nextbarker, no, Johnny Gilbert's announcing career dates back to 1960 and 3 years before taking over Don Pardo for the ABC Daytime/Primetime version of TPIR.

  • This was a show that without a doubt needs to be brought back!

  • I'll bet if Blackhawks players had appeared on this show a year later, Bobby wouldn't be there because he signed a huge contract with the Winnipeg Jets, then of the WHA. Also, when he mentions his kids, he mentions his young son Brett. I wonder what ever became of him, lol?

  • What year is this?

  • 1971

  • Did this show mark the debut of Johnny Gilbert's announcing career?

  • Bobby and Dennis Hull are gonna be pretty happy if the current Blackhawks take the 2009 Stanley Cup title.

  • I agree totally.

  • If This show is on the air now, The Chicago Blackhawks will consist of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith as for the New York Giants Legends will consist of Frank Gifford, Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms.

  • @thewhammy83 they didn't do it in 09 but in 2010 the blackhawks win the Stanley Cup.

  • @megamanj2004X close 2010 cup champs congrats

  • This show is awesome! They should release it on DVD.
