  • Haha... looks like Nick Swardson in the thumbnail

  • you got a radio voice

  • great update man watch all your videos keep it up man

  • why everybody who does blu ray updates are so fat

  • @Kenito69wayz Why are so many people who comment on them douches.

  • @Zaranyzerak Zarany you're not Fat Don't listen to that Jack!

  • TOS on Blu Ray here is three times the price it is on DVD here :(.

  • Dose anyone else think it would be cool if in the original "trouble with tribbles" they added the DN9 crew into the background as part of the SFX update. It would be like a little easter egg.

  • Hey man some reason i lost your sub when i changed channels. glad to have ya back. great update buddy. I love the Blu

  • Are you aware of the Mel Brooks box set?

  • I agree the new Prisoner set is so much better than the original $200 megabox I bought years ago. I hope they do similar reissues for The Avengers and The Saint, both of which will look incredible on Blu-Ray (and even the videotaped early episodes of The Avengers look OK on a plasma off the old DVDs, but they could be remastered with VidFire to look even better).

  • Go Blu or Go Home, love it, stealing it.

    Happy Belated Birthday to Anetta.

  • theres a lego harry potter game coming out and christopher nolan is thinking about doing a mvoie based on the prisoner.how cool will that be?

  • Oooh, nice! Annetta and I are loving the Lego games, will definitely have to check that one out.

I heard about the Christopher Nolan Prisoner movie. Hopefuly if it happens, he sticks closer to the original series concepts than the god-awful AMC mini-series remake...

  • what other old tv shows would you like to see be made into a movie?

  • @Zaranyzerak No such remake is happening, so it seems...

  • you only payed 79.99 for star trek season 2 blu-ray. I think the candian dollar must be stronger than the U.S. dollar then. Dammit, I'm movin to canada. Cheaper DVDs and free health care!

  • Hay pssst.... Blu-ray is too expensive...

I think I'll also get "Big Trouble", have only seen it like once or twice on TV or something.

But I'd like to rewatch it properly and all the extras too.

    Blu-ray..... expensive...

  • "You are 90 Bucks!"

    "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

    "HAAHAHAHAHAHAHH!"

    *drums freak you out*

  • Are the features from the 40th Anniversary release of the Prisoner included in the Bluray Release?

  • No, some of them are ported over, but for the most part it's all new features. Ones that were ported over:

    - Rare, alternate version of the episode "The Chimes of Big Ben"

    - Rarely seen "Foreign File Cabinet" footage

    - Rarely seen "textless" intro & outro (with 3 different scores)

    - Original broadcast trailers

    - Original series promotional trailer

    - Gallery of original production and promotional materials

    - Production stills galleries

  • Not ported over:

    - Companion book

    - Bonus program: "The Prisoner Video Companion"

    - Interactive map of the Village

    New features:

    - Newly remixed 5.1 surround sound for all 17 episodes (in addition to the original mono tracks)

    - 'Dont Knock Yourself Out': Feature-length documentary chronicling the production of THE PRISONER

    - Two brand-new featurettes: 'The Pink Prisoner' and 'You Make Sure it Fits!'

    - Promo for AMCs THE PRISONER Miniseries

    (cont'd)

  • Thanks a lot! What was your oppinion of the new series on it's own?

  • I thought the new series had some interesting ideas, and some nice moments but honestly I thought it was needlessly slow-paced and I didn't think Jim Caviezel made a properly balanced foil for Ian McKellen. I'm going to do a full review soon...

  • Yeah, I thought about the same (did a review of it on a friend of mine's channel, and, considering they changed the end of the series, we also did a shoddy remake of Fallout).

  • It just felt like they completely missed the POINT of the original and what the underlying message of it was. A message which, being 40+ years old, is probably MORE relevant today than it was then! It really didn't need to be remade, at least not as something that bore so little resemblance to the concepts of the original...

  • Yeah, I really wished they had gone the Hero High route and changed it a little more. Then, took the unique ideas they had and made a different show entirely.

  • More new features:

    - Newly restored original edit of 'Arrival' with an optional music-only soundtrack featuring Wilfred Josephs complete and abandoned score

    - Production crew audio commentaries on seven episodes

    - Commercial break bumpers

    - Production paperwork archive, featuring scripts, call sheets and press releases (DVD-ROM Feature)

So it's definitely the more "deluxe" of the two in terms of content. The Prisoner Video Companion documentary was always lacking imo, so no big loss there.

  • I've heard most US TV series are shot on film, so I wouldn't be surprised if they release all their stuff in HD. Laser disks look the same as SVHS tapes to me. When it comes to star-trek, I like the mirror universe episodes best, they seem closer to reality.

  • Yep, Laserdisc was SLIGHTLY higher resolution the SVHS, but the two are very close. The problem with TV shows is, while most U.S. shows have been shot on film for years (with the exception of a lot of sticoms in the 70's-90's), shows produced in the 80's and 90's were often edited, mastered and had all post production work done on SD broadcast video. So the only actual fully COMPLETE versions of those shows are in SD. All of the Star Trek shows except for TOS and Enterprise for example.

  • I'm sure laser disk would been more popular if it ran for longer and had recording abilities, but I know that wasn't possible .

I just assumed they'd use the original EDL files for 90s material. But please tell why US networks shot shows on film after the 80s. I know that most TV stations stopped using film in the mid 80s and I don't think the US networks would have considered HD master later on.

  • How can you not have a HD-TV - 21.5inch is not enough to get a full idea of the glory of blu-ray.

I watched Blu-Ray of UP on my brother's 1080p projector (130inch screen)... THAT is how you do it

  • Oh yes, I completely agree! Ideally, I'd LOVE to have a 1080p projector like that. I even measured our living room wall and we have plenty of room for a screen that size. The problem is, a decent 1080p projector is hella expensive... Come tax time, we'll be getting SOMETHING, because I'm sick of watching HD stuff only on my monitor or worse, in SD on our TV... Maybe we'll luck into a sale on projectors or something. Fingers crossed!

  • I wish you luck! You always seem to be on the forefront of audio/visual technology (even back to the Retro videos)... I don't like the idea of a video/audiophile falling behind the times! :)

  • $9 is expensive ... wheres your head at boy? whats the point in blu-ray, honestly. =p

Anywho, perhaps if you stopped spending money on these incredibly EXPENSIVE blu-rays, you could pick up enough dough for some awesome HD television.

I like blazing saddles, tis a good film, I always laugh heartily when watching it.

  • Tsk tsk, that's what this year's TAX REFUND is for! In the mean time, we buy the movies now so we'll have piles of stuff to watch/play on that awesome new HDTV when we get it. :D

  • Well, don't worry about that, I am a hypocrite, I bought 200 pounds worth of DVDs, which is enough to buy a blu-ray player, but I needed the doctor who series sets and Monty Python, I was overpowered I tell thee.

  • Lol! I can certainly understand how that goes. And both Doctor Who and Monty Python are worthwhile additions to your collection indeed!

  • The UK version of The Prisoner is 6 disks long four Blu-ray's and 2 dvd's of extras have no idea whats actually on them though as i was just interested on how much the set would set me back £42.99 is not a bad price

  • Yeah, I don't know the specifics of what's different between the U.S. and U.K. Blu-ray sets. All I know is they used the same transfers for both versions, and ported over most, if not all, of the extras.

  • The only thing keeping me from getting the Star Trek sets is that the pictures is pillarboxed in the middle of a widescreen picture, and so, is a little box in the middle of the screen. It won't go from top to bottom of a 4:3 tv. That's why I don't like the blu-ray versions of Pinocchio or Snow White.

  • Well to be fair, it's because they really are meant to be watched on a 16x9 screen so that's what they're formatted for. For a 16x9 display, that's actually the correct way to format 4x3 content.

  • Hooray for the Prisoner! I had no idea the Blu-ray had so many new extras! That might be the first set I get when I buy a player. I'd be very excited about the documentary. The end of the series is spectacular, my friends and I reenacted Fall Out together, what a hoot! You should definitely do an overview! Its great to know you're a long time Prisoner fan. And yes, the new AMC version sucked majorly.

  • you have all these BD and a standard TV??

  • but he has an HD monitor and even if you can't watch Blu-rays on HD they're still better than DVD's just because of their exclusives

  • i love big trouble in little china it kicks ass and willy wonka and the chocolate factory i havent really seen blazing saddles all the way through and the prisoner havent seen that yet. I got the god of war collection and the two disc set of tim burtons batman

  • big trouble in little china is awesome i loved this movie as a kid and man its still great the only problem the asian girl with green eyes was white

  • They really did a good job on the prisoner

  • Your looking sharp Zaran, have you been working out?

  • They have prisoner on amazon for 49.99....

  • Nice. Grab it, it's totally worth it. Especially at that price! I didn't feel like waiting for mail orders, so I just grabbed it locally (and paid through the nose...oh well!)

  • impatient nerd fan who loves his tv show and wiil watch it asap? ;)

  • EIGHTY DOLLARS FUCKING HELL In england u can get it for 20 pounds OMG

  • Which would be about 40 dollars. Like I said, on amazon it goes for a little over 50 dollars. So if you shop around, sure there's deals out there. But I didn't want to wait, so I just wnet for the lowest local price. Which wasn't that low...but whatever, I know I'll get a lot of viewing out of that set! :)

  • yeah well I hope u enjoy it and I love the 2 gene wilder films and big trouble in little china i have them all on dvd When i get a blu-ray player i will pick them up

  • Big trouble in little china is the best movie ever!

  • build so I can get the complete series 3 pack that comes out alongside season 3 on December 15th. Help me decide buddy hehe. Awesome other pickups too btw.

  • Actually miscounted it's 90 which according to amazon makes me around 103 bucks short aggh what to do!

  • Well, letting the cash build for a while isn't a bad thing. Though I can speak from experience that it's tough! Must...spend...money...NOW! :D

  • HEHE yes indeed I decided that I'm going to attempt since Christmas is coming to see if my Mom or Dad or any family member can chip in the other 103 so can get Trek cuz I thought about it & because it actually has bonus material it's the most rewatchable of the two. Weather or not it works well we'll have to wait & see :D

  • True, those sets are pretty darn LOADED with stuff. I love how you can mix and match your viewing options however you like. Original FX with remixed audio, Remastered FX with original audio, or mix and match on the fly as you watch! Lots of meaty documentaries and behind the scenes tidbits too.

  • Yeah looking forward to that for sure! I dunno how much of my stuff you've been able to watch lately but you will love the 2009 film set it is loaded too, by far the most loaded sigle film in my blu collection. They cover everything thing you'd wanna know with massive detail!

  • Gahhh Star Trek TOS season 2! I'm so torn man I got 80 bucks yesterday with orders from the family literally to spend it on myself. They said they'd be watching my episodes to see what I got with it or else I would gladly put it toward packages for my friends. Anyhoo I dunno what to do I want the Turtles Blu Ray set even though they robbed us of bonus features for the first 3 it's still a must have but then there's Trek which I'm dying to own so I should probably hold on to the 80 & let it...

  • Prisoner bluray....yum...i think i'll get that at some point.

  • 'Tis sooo worth it. They really did a gorgeous job with it. Portmeirion has never looked better....

  • you cant make TRUE HD from film

  • Film is higher resolution than HD. So yes, you can most certainly make TRUE HD from film.

  • ture hd must stay digital from the camera all the way to the disc..,,film is analoge so in therory it has limitless lines of resolution but there is always a loss of quality and degredation with anything analoge,,,,its why some people like recording music with analoge epuipment because of its "warm" sound,,,,it doenst have that pin point detail that digital does...

  • Film is not analogue, it is film. Analog is a type of video/audio signal. You scan the film digitally to a computer, and you have a firrt generation digital master. In digital terms, the total effective resolution of a frame of 35mm film (Academy ratio 1.37:1) is 3656 × 2664, also known as 4K. This is then downconverted to 1080p for Blu-ray. IMAX film, translated to digital at full resolutuon is 5616 × 4096. So, as you can see, film is subtantially higher resolution than "True" HD.

  • The concept that the only "True" HD is something that is pure digital from start to finish is a fallacy. "True HD" simply refers to the final reoduct being 1080p. You can make full 1080p digital video from any source of sufficient quality. Film is MORE than sufficient to provide HD quality.

  • im sorry to say , but if you think film is not analog, then you have no idea what your talking about...

  • I'm sorry to say, if you think film IS analog you have no idea what you're talking about. Ditto if you think Film can't produce a True HD picture.

  • In a very BROAD sense of the definition, fine it's analog. But not in the way you're talking about. You're saying it's not possible to get True HD quality from a film source. I'm saying you're wrong. The effective resolution of film (35mm and 70mm) vs HD (1080p) proves that.

  • Great Pick ups :)

  • Film has a much higher resoulution than HD. It can go up to 4K at times. But it depends on the projector\camera but even the lowest res. 35mm cameras have higher res than HD

  • i dont blu ray is that expensive but i only buy blu ray of dvds i really really like

  • Im now buying bluray regulary BUT in the uk brick and mortar stores its VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. There are some awesome sales (we had a buy one get one free on pixar/disney whihc was epic) but they are so few and far between these offers its really internet only in the uk. But also considering how strong the pound is against the CND its still expensive online with the average price being £10.00-12.00 for brand new blu ray.

  • I cant watch the old willy wonka as i find it just too scary , as a kid it freaked me the fuck out and not just the tunnel sceen but the the whole movie in general. Due to that i literally cant watch it as it still freaks me out a little lmao!

  • Oh, it's freaky alright! I know some people actually classify it as a horror movie...hehehe! :)

  • Can u do a in depth review of Star Trek please?

is it worth me upgrading my James Bond special Edition dvd collection to the ultimate editions?

  • It's worth it to upgrade to the Blu-ray version for sure, but if you're jus ttalking the DVD editions I don't think there's a sginificant enough difference between the two to upgrade. I think you get a few more extras, but that's about it. I'd say hold out for the Blu-ray versions (which are stunning). All the same content as the Ultimate editions, and Bond has never looked better!

  • it was a female called deilia derbyshire who done the original Dr Who music

  • You're PARTLY right. Delia assembled/performed/recorded it, but Ron Grainer composed it.

  • Yeez, that was an expensive update but hey I'm glad that you're happy with your buys ^^

  • sweet update hey which do you prefer dvd or bluray

  • Blu-ray, hands down. It really is a night and day quality difference. But there's still a lto of stuff that's only on DVD (most TV show sets, for example) so I still buy a lot of DVD as well.

  • Sounds like you need to invest in a good cheap 1080p High Def for the holidays, and then save up for what you really want at a later time. Great update sean. Looking forward to MMC Retro soon.

  • Yeah, I think at tax time we're just going to jump at whatever kind of 1080p TV we can afford then get something bigger later.

  • there are so many amazing deals for tvs this x mas. 1080p tvs have come way down in price. u can get a good one for under 1000$

  • good vid u just stayed on the subject of the prisoner way too long

  • Nah, one can NEVER stay on the subject of The Prisoner for too long!

  • I found Willey Wonka but it wasnt blue ray or widescreen the quest never ENDS! id LOVE the Escape Movies on blue ray...

  • Look forward to the indepth Prisoner and perhaps an indepth trek when you have all 3 seasons

  • Some nice purchases there. The extras on the Star Trek set look brill. The DS9 episode were they go back in time is a hoot.

By the way have you seen Turtles Forever? The cross over cartoon of the 80s and 2003 Ninja Turtles? Someone uploaded it on Youtube and it's really cool.

  • I most certainly did see Turtles Forever! Loved every fan-serving second of it. :)

  • Can you tell any difference on a standard def television when you have either a dvd or a blu ray on? What I mean is is the picture quality better on a standard def. tv with the blu ray opposed to the dvd, can you see any difference?

  • On a standard def TV, not really no. The only real difference is you don't see any pixelization or artifacting at all, so it's basically the most crisp, clean, PERFECT standard def you've ever seen. But in terms of detail, there isn't any noticeable difference.

  • what about legos rockband?

  • Ugh, there's a Lego Rockband now?? I'll pass on that one. Not a fan of those (or the Guitar Hero series).

  • wow awsome series and movies u got i love em all have u seen the new the prisoner mini series

  • Yes, I mentioned it several times in the video...

  • "Klytus... I'm bored. What play thing can you offer me today?" I just got finished watching FLASH GORDON!!! Hopefully that Wonka blu-ray still has the cast reunion commentary on it.

  • Klytus! I knew it started with a K...lol Great movie/soundtack. I'll get back to you on that commentary...

  • Time for Dr. Katz, Sean.

  • What? Did you say it's time to continue building my Doctor WHO collection? Good idea! I'll get right on that. :D

  • [Blu-Ray is SOOO Expensive] are people still being assholes about it Sean? Anyways, I got Snow White and Pinocchio on Blu-Ray sets and man oh man you got to get those! Also the 20TH season of the SIMPSONS is coming to Blu-Ray (even though 7 seasons were just skipped) presumably because it is the first season shot in High definition.

  • DOH and how can I forget one of the most vital questions to this video, the Region B release of [the Prisoner] comes in a attractive black packaging that comes with a BOOK. Still got juice left in that wallet of yours?

  • Great movies Sean! And another series that I didn't know but will definetly watch it!

I'm halfway through "My So-Called Life" and loving it.

  • Ah, good stuff! Told ya My So-Called Life was great! :)

  • I'v got Young Frankenstein on Bluray its look amazing for a black and white film !

  • i didnt know you still had standard def?. the mitsu diamond series DLP are currently good price considering where they were last year for a 60-70 inch, for a movie buff you need that size Z:) you missed out on the LED-Dlp's samsung had last year, but not from lack of me pestering you to pick one up

  • Yeah I know, all in good time. Hopefully at tax time this year... Don't know if we'll be able to afford a mega-sized screen like that (though you KNOW that's what I want), but we're keeping our eye out for deals on decent sized sets.

  • ok well above 45 you can actually tell the 1080/720 i/p difference...at least thats what the videophils on the avs forums always say.

  • It's true, though it's more like 40 and up. But yeah, the larger the screen, the more of a difference you'll see (and all the more reason you want it to be a decent transfer - to take FULL advantage of all the potential detail in that massive screensize!)

  • awesome as always DOOD ....oo i got that netflix instant streaming disk for the ps3 and i was running threw the tv shows and i found the first season of start trek in HD...so i watched the episode *space seed*...and i neirly shit my pants it was so amazing looking :D the only sad thing is i dont have the options of turning off the new effects :( o well ...ill end this comment with one word

    KHANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great choice of episode! Yeah, anyone who thinks "old stuff doesn't look any better on Blu-ray DDDDOOOYYYYUUHHH!!!!!" really needs to sit down and watch some HD Star Trek TOS. Or The Prisoner (which is also stunning).

  • It them high quality detailed film grain/lines :P

  • monsters v alians and coraline are supposd to be great on blu-ray, picked up on amazon sale with live free die hard and lucky # slevin all for 36 bucks :)

  • i wish i had a bluray player

  • Great pick up there Dr. Z. I picked up A LOT of blus today thanx to Amazon

  • Ah yes, amazon is having MEGA Blu-ray sales right now. Good time to stock up!

  • I am enjoying their current sale on Blu-Rays.

  • 160 for the dvd wow good video man see you on stickcam

  • nice

  • when can we expect more hd rants there fun to watch

  • Soooon....just gathering my thoughts. And fueling my rage. ;)

  • I'm still not buying blu ray because I want to hold onto my money lol.

  • Soooo....I guess you're not buying DVD either then, since they're both pretty much the same price now.

  • Eh not really. Wrestling comes on DVD so I get that. And I don't get as many DVDs/Blu Rays as you at a time and I don't make that much money. So when something new comes out it happens to be a bit cheaper on DVD. And I mean a BIT. Besides it is kind of pointless to buy Blu Ray (nothing against blu ray I'm 100% behind it) when I'll never have an HDTV for a LONG time.

  • Ah, well that makes sense then. Not a lot of sports in general on Blu yet, but it'll happen eventually.

  • It will happen. So far wrestling's only blu ray release is their big event but that is only once a year. And when I do get an HDTV I'll be buying Blu Rays all the damn time. Anyway I'm off to bed, great update as usual!

  • 1:51 - One of the places I frequent has tons of Wonka candy (including Wonka Bars and of course, Nerds).

  • I like Digibook too.

  • First comment. I hear the WW and the Chocolate Factory looks really good on Blu-Ray. Nice update man. I have a 27 inch HDTV. When watching Blu-ray movies they do not fill the entire screen. Noticed this when viewing Fifth Element on Blu-Ray. Does TV size matter?

  • Did you make sure the aspect ratio on your HDTV and Blu-Ray Disc Player is set to 16:9?

    That could be the problem.

  • No, screen size doesn't matter.

Bear in mind, there are a variety of different aspect ratios. The only aspect ratio that will completely fill a HDTV set is 1.78:1.

The Fifth Element is a 2.40:1 ratio movie, so there will be black bars on the top and bottom since it's a larger ratio than can fit on a 16x9 screen.

Similarly, 1.33:1 (4x3) ratio programming appears (when viewed correctly) with black bars down the sides.

  • Your statement makes sense. I did notice when watching Fifth Element on a bigger HDTV set it filled the screen out a more yielding better quality picture. Not downing your statement. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

  • do you not use a hdtv for your movies then?

also im from england but have never seen a wonka bar :(

  • Nope, as I said our TV is SD, but I watch HD stuff on my computer monitor (which is 1080p).
