What are you guys talking about? FF XII has hands-down the best, most mature plotline in a Final Fantasy game to date (it's only competitors being FF VI and FFVII). Yes, I agree the characters lacked character development, and were a little dull in nature, but when you get a chance to explore the land of FFXII, you'll surely get engrossed in the lore and characters.
I love the gang: Balthier, Fran, Vaan, Penelo, Basch, Ashe.
Lengthiest, biggest, most BADASS Final Fantasy to DATE. No contest.
@mariodude25 When you say "mature" I kind of can guess you hate Tidus. But am guessing since many people hate ff10 only because of Tidus' attitude to ruin the vibe at times. FF12 is epic, I still have its collector's edition case and cds. Still, the nostalgia of ff7 overweight ff12 when it comes to majority. But, me personally, I have most vibes off of ff10. Tidus' attitude made it actually realistic. :/

Sorry, but that sounds very deadlocked. Series crossed over on much more powerful consoles and thus it's only expected to see much bigger difference in graphical style. They chose the good way, with high end graphics the game could have ended looking like a prime kitsch (like FF9, it looked awesome with graphics at the time, with modern graphics that style would be unbearable to look at).

Well I find FF12 story to be more mature, characters are more mature and it is well done imo, 13 has some really good story and characters which people don't seem to understand, but the game is generic in path and short which takes away a lot from the experience.
Some systems (like battle) have been overhauled a LOT which I can understand the hate over, but I like 12's battle the most (and I play FFs from the 1st).
I definitely respect your opinion too, however, this is just mine.

Well those were probably FF7 fanboys tbh, I saw no resemblence with Cloud whatsoever, not every character with short hair and cool temper is a copy of Cloud. :P Game's biggest problem is that it's linear as hell, you basically have one straight path until chapter 13 (which is near end game) and you can't visit old areas.
As an FF title, game is a wee bit disappointing, I admit that, but game as a game is much more than solid and imho still owns a high amount of quality content.

@mypurpletie I played ffx right after ffxii. Ffxii was my first big scale final fantasy game ever. And I loved every minute of it. However when it came to ffx.. everything just paled in comparison. The graphics and the battle system were just meh and bad compared to ffxii. So bored of turn based battles (thx a lot Pokemon) Yes I am so superficial. But perhaps it was a bad idea to play a game from 2001 in the year 2011. I hear that a remake of ffx is in the works so I may give that a try instead.

Unfortunately not a remake, only a remaster- we'll get practically the same thing but in higher res version. Though I'm sure we'll also get more content too, cause we're talking about Japs here, they don't re-release anything without extra concent. Heck they don't even release the normal game the same to every continent, europeans get this stuff, americans get that and they themselves get all of that + two times more :P
@mypurpletie well it was probably a bad idea to start out with ff12 first. Reading reviews it seemed like that ffx was the superior game over ffxii. And so i decided to play the "crappy" game first fxii. It was my first big scale final fantasy game. And everything about the game was PERFECT. (OK maybe the storyline needed more work) but the graphics were stunning, the battle system was a breath of fresh air. I started ffx after beating fxii. Big mistake.

It's norm for comments like "this game is awesome and whoever doesn't think so is retarded" to be retarded, but this is one of those cases where it's totally valid.
The only thing I don't like about Final Fantasy music is that after about 20 minutes of listening to it you look at your watch and realize you've been playing for 3 hours. Always makes me feel like i should just download the OST and listen to it while doing something else...

I think I've already gotten used to it, thanks to my friend, who owns the game that I play. Although I don't get to play it as often as I want to, I just concentrate on the game itself while she gives couple tips.
But so far I have cursed only, Flowering Cactoid (for nailing Vaan) and Demon Wall. Learning the quickenings = toughest thing in my gaming history.

Although I haven't played the game this far yet (but I intend to!), I love this music. It is peaceful and sometimes makes chill of relaxation go up my spine.
As for the gameplay, I think it is only good. As far as I have played it, I've been able to go peacefully elsewhere and know that nothing bad is going to happen. Gotta love gambits for that. I've actually gone enough far with those that I've managed to draw while playing, letting my left hand's thumb handle the moving as I sketch some art.

Although this game lacked story, and back-stories for the characters. It has to have the most unique and fun gameplay, you have ABSOLUTE freedom. You don't have to do anything the game tells you to. I <3 this game.
@mavadoman I wouldn't say that ffxii lacked history, it's more that the history is more focused on wars, reigns and empires than on the characters themselves.

True, it seems like an adventurous epic song, but there's a slight notion of time in this song in my opinion, like if time passed too quickly and the world was getting older. Even you said it :"nostalgic, yes"
Maybe it's the tale of the earth. The only way I see this as a sad song is if the spirit of the earth told its life during its death. The stories would include the passion and experiences but it would be sad because a death is involved. Of course, this song could be the bgm and then I would consider it sad. It seems like a very heartwarming song. It cools calms me down during the heat of stress and the cruelties of fate. This song is very impeccable.
FF12 didnt have that many songs... many ppl missed the the battle music like the other ff when u get in a battle.i think this game was lacking that cuz playing the game with the same bgm except bosses got annouying. Seriously i would just summon my esper to change music while fighting or press mute on my remote controll. But then again this game had some good music just not many.
this was by far the best BGM in the whole game. The rest were too much like elevator music and lacked strong melody or a good fit to their locale. The one that really puzzled me was the thing at Raithwall's Tomb and Old Archades, just seemed to be used whenever they were too lazy to compose a new theme.
I think this song fit its context perfectly in FF XII.
It gave me the melancholy feeling that I could only get from the Veira race.
I mean seriously, it was either live out your life never knowing what the world has to offer you in fear of being shunned by your own kind, or throw your societies laws to the wind, accept their silence, and figure out who you were outside of walls that protected you for years.
Does anyone else think this song is REALLY sad and depressing, then it's kinda happy for a few seconds, then it goes back to being depressing? It's like a conflict between the blessing and curse of having an extended life. Also, Fran's voice is hot. :)
To me, it's pleasant entirely throughout. It's interesting seeing what other people think about it. This is definitely one of the few songs I truly enjoyed in FFXII.
When I first heard Uematsu wasn't going to be doing the music for FFXII, I was worried frankly. But this and several of the other pieces from the game showed me that the change wasn't a bad thing at all. Though Uematsu still rocks.
Fran's an awesome character, such depth and beuaty, and I'm not talking about the beuaty of the female body though she CERTAINLY has that, I'm talking about the beuaty of a character well written, well animated and well performed
best character in the game in my opinion. followed closely by balthier and fran as far as storylines go im still halfway through the game so hopefully ill be pleasantl surprised

Although this game lacked story, and back-stories for the characters. It has to have the most unique and fun gameplay, you have ABSOLUTE freedom. You don't have to do anything the game tells you to. I <3 this game.

the only problem i had with final fantasy 12 and its music is that the music wasnt loud enough during game play for me like it was to far in the background which sucked cause it was good music

True, it seems like an adventurous epic song, but there's a slight notion of time in this song in my opinion, like if time passed too quickly and the world was getting older. Even you said it :"nostalgic, yes"

Maybe it's the tale of the earth. The only way I see this as a sad song is if the spirit of the earth told its life during its death. The stories would include the passion and experiences but it would be sad because a death is involved. Of course, this song could be the bgm and then I would consider it sad. It seems like a very heartwarming song. It cools calms me down during the heat of stress and the cruelties of fate. This song is very impeccable.

FF12 didnt have that many songs... many ppl missed the the battle music like the other ff when u get in a battle.i think this game was lacking that cuz playing the game with the same bgm except bosses got annouying. Seriously i would just summon my esper to change music while fighting or press mute on my remote controll. But then again this game had some good music just not many.

this was by far the best BGM in the whole game. The rest were too much like elevator music and lacked strong melody or a good fit to their locale. The one that really puzzled me was the thing at Raithwall's Tomb and Old Archades, just seemed to be used whenever they were too lazy to compose a new theme.

I think this song fit its context perfectly in FF XII.
It gave me the melancholy feeling that I could only get from the Veira race.
I mean seriously, it was either live out your life never knowing what the world has to offer you in fear of being shunned by your own kind, or throw your societies laws to the wind, accept their silence, and figure out who you were outside of walls that protected you for years.

Does anyone else think this song is REALLY sad and depressing, then it's kinda happy for a few seconds, then it goes back to being depressing? It's like a conflict between the blessing and curse of having an extended life. Also, Fran's voice is hot. :)

When I first heard Uematsu wasn't going to be doing the music for FFXII, I was worried frankly. But this and several of the other pieces from the game showed me that the change wasn't a bad thing at all. Though Uematsu still rocks.
