  • im gonna try this vegetable for the first time in my life.my husband from india bought it saying its very nice, but even him forgot how its called :). so i saw the name in the supermarket - loki, and found ur recipe, which i think its not bad so im gonna cook it tonight. i liked the tip to crush a bit the dry curry leaves so that they release more flavor. thx

  • Hey Hetal/Anuja,,both of you are doing a great job. I watch them to learn the recipes and not judge the presentation. So keep up the great work.

  • @ankitapal : thank you for your support :)

  • very much spice for a brazilian girl

i can´t eat something soo strong

  • are the green chillies actually green pepper? (capsicum) ?

  • @TheDishaz

No, they are the hot chilies. We usually say "bell pepper" when we mean capsicum.

  • You girls are awesome ... Ignore the pointless guy with the hormonal imbalance, your recipes are wonderful! I've tried all the Gujarati ones and they tasted amazing.

  • you are right whatever comment we are going to post here if they do not like it they will block it. we well most of us have learnt this recipe from sanjay thumma. this was a very boring presentation. pep it up girls.

  • you are right whatever suggestion we give to these girls they are going to bloc kit. by the way this recipe i have, most of us have learnt from amazing chef sanjay thumma. now block my comment too. boring presentation. pep up girls you have some very tough competition with many great chefs on youtube

  • So bad attitude,. I do agree cooking is good...thats what they are good at

  • I was also following since 2007 but I never believed these girls are so impolite

  • But yes thank you for the recipe (minus milk). This was great. I will try to cook the same way today. And Lauki is a great vegetable..

  • Ayurveda was based in India and that is considering the use of Indian milk and salt located in India. So, it is possible this rule not apply in other lands.

  • but it tastes sooooo damn gooooooood mmmmmmmmmmmmmm =P

  • @ranjitsisa

yes i agree wid u..v shd nt use d milk....i tried dis recipe without milk....

  • universalctzn has also made rude reply to MysoreAshok...and i can see how rude it was.... i hope u will follow what u instructs others to do... and by the Vah Chef and Manjula's kitchen are never filled with these negative remarks...Only these 2 useless get

  • Poor babies need help

  • Anuja if u don't have guts to take negative criticism...stop the shop...coz people have mouth and they will speak

  • . If I am rude you dont have flowery language...and in future minf ur business...if u girls don't have guts to take negative criticism stop the show...coz people have mouth and they will speak...hehehe... atleast i never use language like Jack ass....

  • i think they are doing a great job, it takes alot of effort to present in front of the screen and be smiling all at the same time!!

  • these girls have blocked my old account...so much Jealous....they want to block people dont want to improve themselves

  • Hetal presents things far better than Anuja.... Anuja seems to stuck and struggle for words to explain things.... looks like girls are not prepared...this is an honest feedback...Please work on it

  • lol

  • Please refrain from being rude, and appreciate others effort. You contribute nothing by opening yoru ignorant brain in front of others.

  • Its good to give honest opinion to people

  • Have you ever tried that honest openion crap with yourself, you are rude, abnoxious, and contribute nothing to this form except showing how much of a jack ass you are...maybe look into what is causing so much un happiness within yourself, that you have to come here and reflect on someone's hard work, it is a travesty that you are a human, there are animals that ar e much consciensous than you are...hope you find peace in your life.

  • Universalctz... Have u ever noticed what non sense replied added to me.... I am very happy and settled FYI and u girls do not have anything better than stop people to give their right opinion...I know u are the friend of these 2 girls who cannot fight straight so had made u guys come front and speak..

  • Shame on people like u. If u cant do what these 2 women are doing, just keep ur mouth shut. If u dont like them, u need not watch. If people cannot appreciate things, they know how to criticize well.

  • agreed Ashok

  • when the curry is 75 % done... add this mixture to the curry. since you are adding rice in the paste form you have to make sure that it is cooked. keep adding the water to the curry if you feel curry is becoming dry.

whoever doesnt like the sweet version of this curry can make this version of lauki dish..

  • I have another version of Lauki curry.

same tadka, dont add onions directly cook chooped lauki... in the mean while .. soak 1 spoon of sesame seeds and two spoons of white rice in water fr abt an hour. Now make a thick paste out of it adding water.

  • wow that is strange to add milk to this curry. but it looks fantastic so I must try this one.

Also sometimes if the skin on the lauki/doodhi is thick, it can be peeled and cut into fine strips and can be made into sambharo which can be eaten with meals for flavor. basically made similar to how you made the cabbage sambharo but I suppose this would have to be cooked a bit.

  • hmm...google images for "Opo Squash" look a bit like a zucchini.

  • Have you ever made a Loki/Lauki Gohst? It is amazing

  • what is this lauki ? anyhow thx for the recipe.

  • Opo Squash- It is an awesome Squash

  • So...is opo and lauki one in the same, or different?

  • Curtsey RecipeTips: Besides Opo Squash, here are some of the other names- bottle gourd, calabash, Italian edible gourd, long fruited gourd, long melon, long squash, peh poh, woo lo kua, hu lu gua, New Guinea bean, Tasmania bean, snake gourd, suzza melon, or zuzza. The name given to this squash in other countries include: yugao (Japanese), po gua (Cantonese), kwa kwa or hu gua (Chinese), upo (Filipino), cucuzzi or cucuzza(Italian), bau (Vietnamese), and dudhi or lauki (Indian)."

  • Is this the same as opo squash? It would help if you showed us the vegetable before chop-chop. This looks good.

What do you think about substituting the milk for diluted yoghurt?

  • Lauki or Loki is Opo Squash - It is a long and fat lite lime color squash...

  • Okay this lauki... I dont recall seeing it .. But I wasnt looking for it .. If I can not find it which squash could be used in its place ?

  • Its called Loki or Lauki

but in the store it is called Opo Squash-

No need to peel it...just cut it up
